I put Vue down for a couple of years, it just simply got way to expensive to upgrade. I wanted to get all the lovely new features they seemed so great. Then finaly they gave a great offer. Now I have Vue 9. How well nice to see nothing changes. Crashed 3 times today already. Seems when you edit landscape is it's favorite crash right now.

What was your previous version? Many changes in OpenGL since your last version, maybe?
andrewe_665 posted Wed, 05 October 2011 at 4:31 PM
Well new Computer, very modern I5 previous version was Infinite 6, big jump but from what I see people se the crashes alot. Bit more stable now though
bruno021 posted Wed, 05 October 2011 at 5:27 PM
What's your graphic card? Most crashes come from bad OpenGL settings. If it's brand new, maybe you need to update the drivers? just a thought.

I've found Vue 9 Infinite to be the most stable release for a long time...

I havent crashed yet in Vue 9 Complete, unlike previous versions though I am finding it slower to render for some reason, but still no crashes which I class as good for Vue

Better luck the last day, maybe it was learning my system. One thing I find is that with all atmospheres renders look look a bit hazy even the I have both fog and Haze turned down. Any ideas. I must admit it's nice back using VUE
Jonj1611 posted Thu, 06 October 2011 at 11:37 AM
Are these ones that are included with Vue or ones that your may have bought/downloaded for previous versions?

Gamma correction? it tends to make images brighter.
GIMP 2.7.4, Inkscape 0.48, Genetica 3.6 Basic, FilterForge 3 Professional, Blender 2.61, SketchUp 8, PoserPro 2012, Vue 10 Infinite, World Machine 2.3, GeoControl 2

I think it's down to your internal units, and also because the "Artist" atmospheres haven't been reworked to use the new internal unit options.
Dunno if you can change it in your version but set 1 Vue unit = 1 meter. Atmospheres and indirect lighting will be "real world accurate" this way, this is the best option for, well everything but the "Spectral sunshine" collection. These atmos have an Aerial Perspective set to 10, which is fine if internal units =0.1m (the old internal units), but if your internal units are set to 1m, then you need to change the AP to 1.
For some materials, you will also notice they can look odd. Simply change material size to 0.1, and everything will be back to normal.

The boring Willow tree used to crash Vue for me all the time. I guess one of the updates for Vue Infinite 9.5 finally fixed that quirk. So no more Vue crashes on my old Pentium 4 (single core).
andrewe_665 posted Fri, 07 October 2011 at 1:49 PM
It crashed againg when i tried editing a material, must be memory. Even at 8 gigs, wow
thefixer posted Fri, 07 October 2011 at 1:56 PM
You must have some other issues, I also have 8 Gig and I really pressure Vue with lots of Poser imports, I don't get crashes. As I said previously I believe version 9 to be the most stable incarnation of Vue for a long time..
Maybe look at other issues, drivers, conflicts, something you're maybe missing..

No I dont think so this is a perfect system. Thiis computer has never crashed, or nor has any other program. I have been using every version of Vue since 4. Over time each upgrade gets worse.
thefixer posted Fri, 07 October 2011 at 2:12 PM
I've used Vue since 4 too and I know it's been a bag of spanners in a few versions, I had problems with 5, 7 and 8.5.. Version 8 was good but 9 has been better in my experience. I'm sorry you have problems, have you tried e-on support?

What message do you get?
andrewe_665 posted Fri, 07 October 2011 at 6:49 PM
Um Vue has stopped working
ShawnDriscoll posted Sat, 08 October 2011 at 3:10 AM
So it's a Windows message box and not and e-on message?
andrewe_665 posted Sun, 09 October 2011 at 10:20 PM
Yes a windows message
bruno021 posted Mon, 10 October 2011 at 2:30 AM
I think it's a graphic crad problem. What is you card and drivers version?
andrewe_665 posted Wed, 12 October 2011 at 11:43 AM
On Board Intel drivers, it's an I5 with one graphic core, yes it's special Intel chip

The only way to work with Vue with this kind of graphic card is "Software OpenGL"
andrewe_665 posted Fri, 14 October 2011 at 11:25 AM
Ok will try it agaim that way, I posted a pic I finaly managed to make good on the gallery page. It crashed again this morn. Again while I was painting a terrain. Seems that it likes to crash when doing that. I looked at the crash log. It would appear that Vue uses a a temp file(obviously) while one is doing things. Kind of reminds me of the old programing days with C. Not allowing enough memory space for the data.
bruno021 posted Fri, 14 October 2011 at 12:23 PM
In the terrain editor, check that you have Specular (or Highlights") off (it's the round icon on the top toolbar).
ShawnDriscoll posted Fri, 14 October 2011 at 1:32 PM
Nearly all programs use a temp file while running. That's normal. Vue's Terrain Editor however, expects great things (OpenGL) from the video adapter. Otherwise, crashola.
andrewe_665 posted Fri, 14 October 2011 at 1:43 PM
Well looks like i will have to update drivers, I have a fixed pipeline, Vue does not support that
andrewe_665 posted Fri, 14 October 2011 at 2:04 PM
Well Open GL has always been on by the looks
ShawnDriscoll posted Sat, 15 October 2011 at 3:34 AM
My motherboard's Intel video adapter was disabled in BIOS so I could install a much better video adapter for Vue and other apps that use OpenGL.
