i have poser 8 on my new machine, and poser 7 on my old machine.  I want to move the libraries that I have on the old machine to poser 8.

Can anyone link me to a tutorial on this?  The directions on Smith Micro site are pretty confusing to me.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Don't copy them into Poser 8. You can copy them onto the new machine, but keep them separate.

Then in Poser 8 add each by clicking the add library button and then choose the folder above "runtime". Never select "Runtime" when adding a library.

You choose the folder above it - which should have unique a name. That's the name that shows up in the library GUI.

bagginsbill - thanks for the tip, that worked.

Now, how do I remove the libraries I copied into the "//Smith Micro/" folder?

Hahah. I am sad I did this because it is not obvious.

When you want to remove a library you have to first  make it the only library shown.

To do this, select, next to "Show: "  the pulldown choice for the library you want to remove.

This will cause a second button to appear - a remove library button.

I want to delete the 3 gig of old files I cut-and-pasted into the smithmicro folder before I knew that wouldn't work.  Basically they are duplicates of the ones I just created.  The first set of files don't appear in the poser libraries.

semidieu has python scripts that can instantly attach all your external runtimes or remove them.  Maybe IM him at runtimedna.com

Haven't got a link though.

The BB is only okay if you have a few external runtimes. If you have many then you really need the python script.

Esther, Zoxesyr is saying something different in that last post, for which I have no answer.

"I want to delete ... files I cut-and-pasted into the smithmicro folder"

He (she?) merged a bunch of crap into the main runtime, mixing it all up. Now how to find and remove it - no way that I know without writing a custom program to take a list of files from the standard install, and remove everything that isn't in that list.

Yes, basically that's the answer to my question.
