It's not too bad so far.I imported a Poser Pro 2010 animation. It imported quite swiftly and rendered with reasonable speed. The preview animated render is a bit quirky but comes right in a while! Cheers

I updated from Vue 9.5, so the new features are not so significant.
The new Spline Tool is great, but I wish I had this 10 releases before already. New Rocks with displacement material is nice, but you can do this before easy. Support for PPro2012 is a fix and nothing new. New feature list is quite small, that is my statement.

New rocks are huge improvement over the low poly rocks we've had for so long. Splines are a great new tool, and not just for raods, for geometry, to add effects to terrains, and to create new styles of ecosystems.

Just playing around with the new physical model for water, looks promising.

to be honest I only bought C4D because of sketch and toon and was really disappointed at the results - the handling of transparencies, all the adjustments i would need to make, to make one toon panel etc.  I also thought I could toon some really nice city scenes as at the time there were no other city scenes for poser etc.  Now there is a lot more options I am not sure I really need C4D anymore. I hardly opened it for months. I tried my hand at a few morphs and it was fun, but not something I wanted to spend hours on as I want to spend hours making pics and making stories.

So I guess this might be the end of my xstream days unless they make xstream so vue can render inside poser.  well it used to crash more often than not anyway. (vue in C4D)

I haven't noticed a console in Vue before, is that an Infinite/xstream only thing?

The reason I asked was my concern with the ability to use Skinvue 10 in Vue 9 when it's eventually released. Skinvue 9 wasn't compatable with Vue 8 due to different python versions and I am really hoping that's not going to be the case.

Indeed, if you can find any scripts, which you won't apart from one or two. Never ever understood why they removed being able to run any python script in anything less than Infinite.

Being able to run any script or create your own is one of the few features that distinguishes Infinite from Complete.

The only benefit from the way they setup the Python in the Artist editions is that everyone can now use SkinVue, which is pretty much the only script available via C3D.

That's odd.  Because SkinVue 9 is broken in Vue Inf 9.5.  Wetness was one of the features that didn't work.

Yeah I know nruddock, my point being that for something that is free like Python, crippling its functionality where it is free in many other applications is just penny pinching in my opinion.

And your right Skinvue is the only one that can use it.

What actually annoys me is where on the side by side comparisons of versions they make it sound as though there are scripts to buy, but there isn't just the one.

I can still use 6 Infinite to run Python scripts but would have preferred to be able to run them in newer versions of Vue too :(

I suppose that if there are no scripts at Corn, it's because noone bothered to submit any. If you know people creating py scripts for Vue, you should strongly suggest they submit them at Corn (they would need to become a Cornucopia broker first, but it's a simple process).

Too much bother with paperwork just for freebies, and only necessary for if the scripts are to be usable in the Artist editions.

The fundemental drawback is that anyone writing scripts has no way to test them on the Artist editions, even if they had one or more of them as well as Infinite/XStream, so it's no surpise that the only brokered script is by someone who is (now) an Eon employee, and what free scripts there are are for Infinite/XStream only and hosted elsewhere.

Also using the C3D store to distribute free scripts, would be awkward from a licensing POV.

bruno021 posted Mon, 17 October 2011 at 4:17 PM

Not much paperwork, Noel, really.

But of course, they must draw a line somewhere between Artist/Pro versions. And it's a known fact that if you need to use py, you need a pro version. Before the split between Artist/pro, the highest Artist version was Pro Studio and there was no python in it, and no one complained. But then came Complete (which imho should include python).

If I were to compare the divide between Pro and Artist, Maxon did the same thing last year, and took away some features from lesser versions. They even took away Global illumination from the cheapest version. I found it really stupid. But they kept python. Vue kept GI, and took away python.

The bottom line is companies make choices, and we follow or we don't. It paid off for both companies, apparently, even if it left some users behind.

Not too bad of an update feature wise but i want to see procedural erosion and the rocky moutain fractal is not that besides it being uber slow. I am hoping it sneeks itself in this version but i doubt it because this is the holy grail of procedural terrains.

Hello,

I am interesting in purchasing Vue.  I have wanted Vue for many years now, just never could afford it, and was expermenting with Bryce.

I can't find a comparsion page, so I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the difference is between Complete and Iinfinite(besides the price) versions.

I don't want to buy one and later regret not spending a a little more for the other if it is worth it or if it offers something that I would like to have.

Price doesn't matter.  I just would like to know what more infinite offers than complete.

And am I understing it correct, there is no support unless you pay for it?

Thanks in advance

thd777 posted Thu, 01 December 2011 at 12:14 PM

Hello!

To look at the comparision of the different packages, go here:

http://www.e-onsoftware.com/products/vue/vue_10_complete/index.php?page=15&BaseProduct=Vue%2010%20Complete

and then check the versions you want to compare to and click compare.

The biggest differences between Infinite and Complete is that Infinite has more capabilities geared towards professional work. For example multi layer and g-buffer export for compositing, advanced animation controls, options for python scriting and so on.

You DO get support even without maintenance contract (including patches). However it will be limited to simple trouble shooting and bug reporting. The paid support offers more, depending on level it can include personalized phone support, but I doubt that anybody outside of studios will buy that.

The biggest advantage when buying the basic maintenance plan for Vue is that you have all upgrades included for one year and you can renew it year after year for a reasonable fee and always have the latest version. In addition, you get access to expedited engineering fixes (faster bug fixes, without maintenance you need to wait for the public release of the next patch). I am now on year four of my maintenance and it was very much worth it. Best deal there is.

Ciao

TD

http://www.e-onsoftware.com/products/chart.php

There's the link to the feature comparison chart for the 'artist' versions; complete is the fullest. Infinite includes all that plus more.

And no, you get support for purchasing; what they have is a maintenance plan you can buy; with this, you get ftp space to upload scenes that are breaking Vue so they can debug the app, a much quicker response time on your support question or bug report. The really good thing about it is this; you get the yearly contract, and the versions released during that year are free. Usually there is a .5 release, and a full version release. Renew before the 1st year expires, and you pay $195 instead of $295, and get the same deal. That also includes any modules you've purchased (I got a 5 rendercow upgrade, and that has been upgraded each year for the Full version of Vue I get for free). The one thing you need is a decent internet connection, as these are downloaded releases (you can get them burned to disk, but that is a cost outside the maintenance agreement). I got it when they started, and have paid essentially $100 dollars every 6 months for a new Vue release. Once you download it, you can save to an external drive for archiving (or burn your own disk), put it on a flash drive and load your rendercows onto your various computers that way

I would recommend Infinite over the others; Xstream is only useful if you use Max, Maya, Lightwave or Cinema 4D. Otherwise, you have the same feature set. Make sure you have a 64 bit OS, and if its Window's install it on something besides the default locations....you can run into issues with Windows UAC real fast.

And to be utterly fair, the .5 releases -can- be problematic at times; use those to field part of a new tech for the next whole number release, so the new feature set can look strange at times. But even if you skip the .5 releases, that is still $195 to upgrade a pro level piece of software.

Thank you both very much!  You have been most helpful.

I thought I had read somewhere there was a comparison page, but I couldn't seem to find it.

Off I go to check it out, but you guys pretty much answered what questions I had.  I will go check the link to compare just for visual satisfication.

Thanks again!!
