hello,

My computer finally broke down for good.

I am going to buy a replacement.

On my old comuter rendering times were excessive. In order to avoid this what specification should I ask for on my new computer.

Medium budget

So far I have:

Windows 7

64 Bit

Sound on Board

4GB ram

I am going to buy a desktop not a laptop.

Any advice appreciated

Thanks

Hi!

My suggestion is:

On the cpu, go for an INTEL CORE I7 cpu so that you can benefit from Posers multithreading when rendering (dont buy the latest version of the cpu)

Of course you need a matching Motherboard that fits the cpu, "Asus" makes good and rather non expensive ones.

You may have to buy new sticks of RAM that suits the motherboard too  (you say you have 4Gb but i dot now wich kind) but its not so expensive.

On my Asus motherboard i started with 3 x 2Gb sticks for RAM and that was quite enough (my board demanded the use of 3 sticks of ram)

Hard drive, buy (NEW) 2 x 1Tb at 7200rpm so you have 2 internal drives, one for daily use and  one for backup.

This is my suggestion for a bugdet comp.

Hi

You don't say what you mean by medium budget but here's my suggestion.

As for ram, go with at least 8 Gigs, ram is really cheap anymore, (I remember paying $300 for 4 megabytes) there's no reason to try and save money here.

I don't think most new computuers comes with less then that anyway, and you can't run more then that unless you get Windows 7 Pro.  Windows 7 Home only supports 10.

I agree with Jonnybode abut the i7 processor and there is a newer version then the one I have now.  But I think you would find an i5 would perform well too, but there is't a huge differece in cost so if you can afford it go with the i7.

I guarentee you won't find a better computer then Falcon NW, check out their reputation yourself. They've been building the best computers in the US for 20 years.

Since I got mine 2 years ago several of my friends have gone with Falcon NW after seening mine and they love them too.  I'll never buy any other brand of computer again.

Check out the Talon, don't look at the Mach V unless you want to mortgage your house. LOL

If you compare you will see that a Dell with similar specs doesn't cost a lot less and there is all the difference in the world in how they are built and the quality of the components, a new Falcon undergoes days of testing.

A Dell gets turned on if it boots it ships and I have had several that didn't even boot when I got them.  That's what sent me to Falcon to start with.

Sorry to sound like a fanatic but I,ve been in computing since Dos and this is the best computer I've ever had by a mile.

a slight clarification required.  Windows 7 Home Premium can access 16 Gb of ram, you don't need Pro for that.

She's right Windows HP 64 bit can run 16 Gigs of ram.

I don't know where I got the 10 Gig figure, you need pro if you want to go with more then that.

And if I was going to by a new compuer right now I would go with 16 Gigs!.
