Subject: WIP: A first peek at Sydney as Blaze

It's not a completed model yet, but here is a peek at Sydney's suit as Blaze for my movie.

I couldn't get what I wanted out of the suit, to not have a mouth and nostrils, so I went for the default sexy look I've seen a lot of superheroines in the comics.

I still have some issues to work through that I tried to hide. Of course if you look, you will see them.

I am happy so far. What's the verdict?

I like the apprehensive look on Simon's face in this shot.

A couple of notes on the suit:

  1. There are no shoes or boots by design. I thought about it for a second and decided that I really didn't want them there. Same for gloves and a cape. I tried to keep the suit looking like something she would have made, as her character isn't a millioinaire like our boy there.

  2. I am leaning toward putting a lense on the mask, a la Spiderman, but I am not sure if I really want to hide those eyes.

Edit: One more thing, the texture and colors I used are not final. I haven't exported the UV maps and started on them yet. I will start that when I get the model done.

rokket rocks ! (again) 👍

Lookin' good ... 😄

I agree ... don't hide the eyes, eyes can be very expressive and add to an image.

Thanks guys. She is looking really good. I have to do some work on the shorts, as they are the only piece that I am having trouble with. I need to extrude the legs because they have a lot of poke-through.

I will work on this and post some more pics later.

I like the color of her costume, but I think I want it to glow a bit. Have to work on that.

They get away with hiding the eyes in movies because they use a combination of dialog, music and body language. That is a harder thing to accomplish if you are doing consumer based CGI, no matter how good you get at using it. So, no, I won't hide her eyes behind lenses.

I tried to create the lenses in Wings and hit a road block anyhow. I need to figure out how to curve the mesh to make it concave. Maybe I will do that for subsequent characters, using older Poser models that don't have all the emotion morphs in them. Still have to create one more villain for my story, so I will look into it then.

In Wings3d ... They're called "magnets."

Yeah... I am still learning how to use everything in the program. I have been getting really lucky so far with things.

I was thinking to just cut down a sphere, but I then I would have to shape it, and that will be a battle. I will get back in the program tomorrow and see what I can come up with.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I don't think I ever told you, but I find your tutorials entertaining and informative. You are going a great service on here to those of us who still consider ourselves 'newbies' even after almost 2 years.

I would cut the mask away from her lower face.  don't worry, no one will recognize her anyway.

I don't know, I kind of like it like that...

I thought about doing just a mask around the eyes, but this one stuck with me after I rendered it. I was hooked after I did the close up of her face.

I will do another mask and see how it looks later on. Right now I am working on a suit for James, which is giving me problems due to his mesh. It separates when I extrude it.

you could call him "the extrudor" and that can be his power.

Ha ha! I already have a name for him... But for now it's a secret. His powers and suit are part of a plot twist. I am going back to the drawing board with him tomorrow.

I will be working on the new mask today. I have to figure out how to use magnets in Wings to do the costume for James, so I will work on the mask instead. Hopefully I will have a render to post by the end of the day.

I have the render finished, so I am going to post in awhile. I am rendering it now. I had a render with BB's VSS, and it turned out not quite what I was looking for. I will post in about 30 minutes.

Ok, here she is with the mask that only covers her eyes. I think she looks totally awesome. What do you think?

And for anyone who is interested, here is a sneak peak at James in his suit. Of course, this is still in production. I am still working out some of the features. I intend to finish the boots, and I am still deciding if I want a cape or not. No gloves, and the arms will stay bare. So what do you think?

Of course, the texture is a temp thing. I don't really like it as is.

OK, talking it over with someone who's opinion I trust, I am going to add gauntlets to his costume. I will start on them this evening and have something up as soon as I get them done.

I am also going to work on changing the texture of the suit to something I do like.

I think the gauntlets are a good idea.

And I really like the smaller mask better.

The smaller mask does look really nice. I think the pose has a lot to do with it, but yeah, I like her like that. I will be working on two different sets of gloves. Small ones like Green Lightning and the gauntlets. Post them later today.

Yes, I like Blaze like that much better. I would put some sort of edging, displacement, thickness around the edge of the mask.  And some sort of fire pic on her costume somewhere too.

That will come later. As I stated when I posted the pics originally, she only has a temporary texture on her suit. I got it UV mapped yesterday and I started painting. I am going to stick with the color, but I am planning on superimposing a red and yellow flame on her leggings.
