Subject: How much does poser 2012 render in the background?

Demon2330 ( ) posted Sat, 03 December 2011 at 7:33 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 10:19 PM

Ok after watching the rendering in PP2012 it seems to rarely change the image on the screen but progress bar at the bottom is constantly moving , out of intrest does poser 2012 concrate more on background rendering rather than showing a working render on screen.

If you wish to do a render in Background, make sure you click on the Render tab in the Pose Room first. Try that. Makes a lot of difference!

What exactly are you asking?  If it's faster than foreground rendering (not really) or does it ever finish (yes) or something else?

I reckon it's that well-known issue with Render In Background not refreshing to the render window, unless you select it first, Paul. Hope they fix this in SR1.

i tried all weekend to render a 2100x3800. in PP12.  it kept quitting on me.

i haven't tried the background thing.  maybe it can complete the render?

tried it without idl, sss; might as well be rendering in p7.     all weekend trying to render a 5x8 bookcover.  frustrated.

tried it at 1920x1080 wall paper size.  it rendered further, but still didn't finish.

sigh

I had a similar experience but when I moinitored the system I found it was using all the available memory and then would just freeze.  I have 12gig on board but watched the poser program climb until all the free memory was in use. I used the performance tab in Windows 7 to see this.  I normally have my bucket size set at 64 with no problems but in this case I dropped it to 32 and it rendered OK but even then it was touch and go as at one point is was showing only 100Mb of memory free.

It could be my set-up is wrong somewhere and it stops Poser using the hard drives as virtual memory I am not that sure but as I have only had the problem on one complex render and therefore I did not research it too much.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

@hornet3D
Did you try Windows 7 readyboost?

Also run something like Advanced System Care free, from iobit, version 5 now.

12gb?  envyy.    i only have 3, but a lovely 6gb swap file.

the Render Q didn't finish the renders either.

does PP12 have a limit size to source texture files?  The M4 displacement tifs are 4096x4096.

test render dimensions 525 x 800px, the render finishes with the 4096 tifs.  can't push it to the dimensions i need though.

30 more 5x8 pages to fill, wuz really hoping RenderQ would bemy friend.

once the Render Q is busy, can i shut down poser to save memory?
or does the Q need Poser to stay open?
if i click Suspend and Resume in the Q, does poser.exe need to be running?
is there a way to put a Suspended render back into Wait mode?

when i looked at the Vista task manager processes page, i saw 2 instances of ffrender running,
does Render Q launch multiple ffrenders?

i left it running again this morning, converted the 4096 tifs to 4000 jpgs. hoping that does the trick.

there doesn't appear to be a way to point to .pz3s directly from the Render Q.

cuppa tea break  😄

RAM is dirt cheap right now if your MB can handle it.  I recently got 16 GB of Kingston RAM for $90.  Of course, then you need 64-bit Windows...

ithink the render q is buggy.  it was displaying 80% in the jobq, but there were no ffrenders processes running at all.  this was after coverting the 4096px tifs to 4000 jpgs.

well, the problem wasn't the tif files.

guess i'm gonna have to go back to P7 or C7P, until i can afford 64bitz.

Tiff or Jpg doesn't make any difference whatsoever for render memory consumption. And neither does texture size as of P7 or newer. It must be something else in your scene or render settings that's causing the headaches. If you share more info about that, maybe we can help you get that render that you want?

Thanks.

I started with attached as my rough idea, and this render didn't finish. i marqueed in increments but it refused to render tothe end.

original idea was to show sunlight making light stripes across the bottom of the bed and his legs - from the blinds. didn't get as far as playing with shadows and negative shadows.  my 1st render is usually just all the elements i'm planning to use and make sure nothing borks on 'missing' and what-nots.

scene contained basically - at the start : http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/hrd-simon-for-m4/83162

front wall and floor, blinds  http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/modern-bedroom/80215
bed:   http://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/round-bedroom/89428
the snakey thing is Medusa V4.
M4's Displacement maps
Feathered male hair

after a weekend of fail,
since then i've removed the She Demon from the scene.  Which was sad, cuz i bought the chain outfit just for this scene. and not nearly as sexeh without a She Demon Domme.

deleted most of the reflect related nodes.

beside the tifs. i traded all the highlight, math nodes from Simon skin, with the Wacro for SSS.  i didn't do SSS wacro on eyes, finger nails, inner mouth.

started with the light set from greenpot's exotic bathroom.  my 1st instinct after the render fail was to reduce light complexities, tried -one point light, one plain IBL light -no image map - at 40%.

3 raytrace bounces. 2 pixel sample. irradiance set to 100%.  no gamma stuff. pixel bucket first at 32, then 16, 4, 2.  didn't bother trying 1 pixel. shading rate = 0, sinc

when i try it with sss ticked on, it calculates and shows the grey, but then it just stops.  render progress bar closes. can almost hear it say 'voila'.

yesterday's test render with Render Q, showed 60% and running, many hours later i checked task manager.  cpu was at 10% and there were no ffrender.exes running.

but, i don't really want to go through this trouble for every big render.  i want to be able to set up the scenes, run the Render Q, go to sleep, wake up in the morning, and dazzling completed renders would be waiting to greet me with a cheery 'good morning'.  that was the dream when i bought the pp12.

What is the diffuse_value of all the materials in your scene?  If they are equal to 100%, you will experience troublesome renders do to diffuse reflection being too high.  Reset them to 80% (0.8) and see how far you get in your render.

MistyLaraCarrara ( ) posted Fri, 09 December 2011 at 11:17 AM

what are the rules for setting general preferences, set number of process/threads?

i set it for 2, thinking it would keep memory usage down to 2gb. (only have 3gb)

but, there is no rationality to thinking that way.

is it easier for the render engine ai to manage memory with setting = 1?
