I've tried to follow a tutorial where a 3d letter (created in Illustrator) is brought into photoshop. Then, a texture is opened in photoshop, then, Select, All, Copy. Then you go to the 3d letter layer, hold down ctrl as you click on the vector thumbnail. Now the texture wraps perfectly around the letter. You can add other layers of textures and blend using the same technique.
I created a 3d letter in Photoshop CS5 using 3d - repousse - text. I rasterized the text, then tried to apply the texture. I would hold down ctrl and click on the thumbnail in the layer window (I assume that's the vector thumbnail since I see no other). Then I paste my copied texture but it ends up just a square over top of the letter.
Has anyone been successful at wrapping a texture around a 3d letter or object for that matter? As well, I note that in the 3d window you can add 'material' or texture to the 3d object or letter. Is it possible to make this material and add to the list like you would a brush or style? That would certainly be one way to solve the problem. However, you're then restricted to only on shot, whereas in the tutorial, you could add layers of texture.
Any help would be appreciated
