Have you tried BB's VSSProp or Snarly's new EZSkin python which includes BB's shaders?
The problem with making the makeup look more realistic is the absence of displacement to enhance the skin surface. You will need to think along those principles to make the image pop out into your face.

I think the problem with doing this sort of teture map is getting it right from the start. I have tried BB's skin shader before on a similar project. The texture still comes out solid white. I will try it with a more transparent application and see what happens. I have a couple different versions of her already done. I will apply the VSS skin shader and see what it does.

The second and third images appear to have a glowing effect around the left ear. That is unusual for VSS. There shouldn't be any texture glow at all. Are you using raytrace in your lights and render settings? With a transmap hair the render time will take longer.

No, not using raytracing at all. I rendered this with the default render settings. I am not sure where that glow is coming from. I double checked the texture map, and the white part of the makeup is nowhere near the ear... strange.

No... I am looking for something around that first render of the 3 that I did. I'll have it down soon. I figured out how to get that effect, I just have to find the time to apply it.

There's was character set reminiscent of The Crow in the rmp; but, the Crow-ish makeup was for M4.

I don't like to borrow from other characters to make my own. It's just a matter of getting the texture map correct. I downloaded a few good quality, large .jpg images of Brandon Lee as the Crow. I will copy that look, and play with the nodes in the material room until I get it to match.

Is that the tv series with Mark Dacascos as Eric Draven? I used to watch that, but I don't remember a female crow on there.

theres a female companion of J O'barrs crow comics, her name is/was Razor,

The female face is made in paintshop pro using a heavy white over her face and then overlaying her face back again in a new layer and fading it nearly all out,

Not bad at all. Interesting technique with the overlay. I will have to see if I can make that work. Right now I just did the face with a second layer painted, then faded it out to about 60%. The rest was done in Poser using transparancy settings in the material room...

ive found the file i used before as a psp , ive converted it to psd and had to realy shrink it down cos of web host filesize restraints. but you can see how ive laid the layers out, i think theres a few dead layers in it aswell that may of not made it to the final jpg, but you can get the idea.

Looking at different 3D treatments of the Crow, the Joker, et al, I see that no matter what you do, the texture will never completely look real. We are messing with pixels and not real paint. This isn't makeup over skin, it's pixels over pixels. So I could keep fighting with it, try using all the latest tricks and gadgets, or get it to look cool even if it is rendered in default lighting (which it is). So this is what I came up with.
I have to go in and tweak the suit. Seems that I left it a bit too thin in some spots, and when I went for a pose that takes her off all three axis', the suit tears up like Elvis' jumpsuits did in the 70's.

I am working on a belt and boots right now. The overcoat will come much later. I tried to do it before, but the mesh got misconstrued when I put it in the cloth room. 3D modelling is so much harder than I thought. I am lucky to have gotten this far!!!!
