Is it possible to save posed hands without saving the whole figure?

Make sure you are in the hand tab of the library.  Select the hand you want to save and click the plus at the bottom.

You can also save to the Pose Library  by using the "Select Subset" option and unchecking everything except the hand parts.

IIRC, there's something weird about the way poses are seved to the Hand Library anyhow but I can't remember what it is.

For the hand library it makes you pick left or right.  And then choose left or right.

if you use semidieu's advanced library manger 2 from rdna.  If you right click on the pose it gives you the option of just applying the hands or the upper body, or an arm without hand or arm with hand etc.  It makes things so much easier than saving partial poses.

Here is a picture tutorial on how to save partial poses. You don't need a special program or script. It's very easy to do.

If you have P9 or PP2012, under partners there is a script by Netherworks (Poser is at home and I am at work or I would give you the exact name), that you can create save templates (for example just the right hand, upper torso, etc.) and it also generates the png icon if you select that option and you can set the save path, etc. Really a slick little script with all kinds of options including if you want to include or ignore rotation, translation, I think scaling and morphs also.

sorry I think I misled you.  Actually I have just looked and ALM2 doesn't do just hands by itself. It does arm and hand, or arm without hand etc

Maybe we could write to him and ask him to include hands and feet by themselves too. it makes posing very quick and easy.
