I still have Miki 1, Maya Doll, Vic 1/2, Mike 1/2, the kids, Steph 1, Steph 3 Petite, Aiko 3 and David 3 all on my computer still. Ya just never know. ;). Every now and then I use James and even Dork...lol. I still have Anton's Joy loaded and use her with Posette. I'm sure if I dig really deep I still have the Zygote Fairy in there...lolol.

I'm hoping to re-work some of my older texture sets using SSS on various models.

Some were even for Possette, as well as the Vickies and michaels.

And a few for the Poser gang G2 figures. :)

May take time but worth the effort.

bagginsbill posted Fri, 03 February 2012 at 1:46 PM

IBL does not activate if you have a solid Envirosphere.

If some part is transparent or has a hole, then the IBL can contribute. Otherwise, it can't.

JoePublic posted Fri, 03 February 2012 at 1:58 PM

There's no image linked to the IBL light.

It's just there to "brighten" the scene a bit and to soften the single point "sun" light.

See, pointlight at 80% plus IBL at 10% give a nicer light than just a pointlight at 90%.

I could use IDL, which I do sometimes, but even if you crank up settings there can be artifarcts.

And the dual light setup I use now literally renders in seconds.

:-)

bagginsbill posted Fri, 03 February 2012 at 2:17 PM

IDL is not on?

OK then I misunderstood what you meant when you said you were using the Envirosphere.

So you're not using the EnvSphere for its light, nor its reflections? Then why mention it? Or are you using a reflecting skin shader?

JoePublic posted Fri, 03 February 2012 at 2:23 PM

I added your Envsphere to my default empty scene for two things:

To create real reflections for chrome or glass, etc.

To speed up the render as the rays won't have to travel into the "Poser void" in an otherwise empty scene.

(I timed it and it really saves a couple of seconds) :-)

bagginsbill posted Fri, 03 February 2012 at 2:39 PM

It makes it faster?!? I never tested that - would not have expected it.

I should charge for that - if it's a performance boost! grin

Much of the bending problems they had can be solved 'on the fly' with the morph brush.

I just want to let you know that in EZSkin v1.6.4 I added a new shader - 'nostrils'.

I expect you can guess what it's for :-)

If you use it in your XML your figure will benefit from improvements to be found in future updates to Poser (don't ask, I'm not allowed to say). It won't make any difference in the current release of Poser, but your XML will be 'future-proof'.

So EZSkin and PP 2012 are all you need to use SSS on your figures.

Also no eyelash transmaps.  I'm sure your remapped V3 textures would improve things DP.

If the figure is selected when you load the item, it should conform.  If not, Right-click on it and select 'fit to'.

There is a Studio forum... 😉

This is the 1st render I've done in over half a year!  Edwin Ironside, the hero of my graphic novel.  Rendered using my Hybrid remapped Dork/M3RR figure (M3RR's head spliced onto remapped Dork's body by combining the necks of both figures).  The shirt is standard dork with a high coller made and cravat made my Nanette Tredoux, the coat is an M3 coat adapted to Dork via Crossdresser, the breeches and boots were created by me, combining Ghastley's Minuet Man breeches for Dork, and the P4 boots into a single figure.  I spliced the Breeches and Boots, and added the boot cuffs in Max.  I then used PhilC's Obj2Cr2 app to make it dork conformable.

I increased the default smoothing and hit her with the smoothing brush quite a bit ;).

I see that you also used the 'Cute Belly' morph on her abdomen.  Even after all these years, I still think that Posette is the most beautifully sculpted of all Poser figures.  The only other figure that I like almost as much is Judy!  (Maybe because her name means Jewish in Hebrew - Yehudit).

I can't get the V3 remap to work. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've used objaction mover before ;). I get a resulting figure that has tons of abandoned junk mat zones. Is that the way it's supposed to be? I try and apply a V3 texture and  it only applies to her head. And even then, not correctly. Obviously I've borked it somehow..lol

I must say tho...all the old figures look great. What a difference that SSS makes ;).

dphoadley posted Tue, 07 February 2012 at 10:04 PM

Posette is grouped the same way as V4.  Or, one could say that with V4, Daz went back to grouping its figures like Posette.  Posette Eve was the 1st to come out with the buttocks groups and the inverted T chest.  Daz copied this when they developed V1 & 2, and then V3.  StahlRatte actually made a reboned version of Posette Eve, using V3's bones, so that that Posette could wear conformable V3 clothing.  Perhaps a reboned version of PosetteV3 could be developed to wear V4's clothing too.

LaurieA posted Tue, 07 February 2012 at 10:36 PM

No, she needs regrouped. Her chest is one big lump and her shoulders are tiny spots between her shoulder and the upper arm. If you lifted her arm at the shoulder there's no way for her breast to lift as well. The grouping is horrible. Unless they've regrouped her since.

Vicky 4 has a collar which includes the breast and it is separate for each side. Posette does not have that.

Laurie

dphoadley posted Tue, 07 February 2012 at 10:46 PM

No, it was V3 that included the breast in the collar group, just like V3 and Posette Eve.  Actually, V2's breast didn't move with the movement of the collar, but Posette Eve's ded!  If you were to try out my PosetteVeV3 freebie, you'd see what I mean.

The oldies certainly have a lot of life left.

WandW posted Wed, 08 February 2012 at 5:33 PM

P9 doesn't do render Gamma correction (although it will in the materials) and creating and editing weight maps and it's 32-bit, but it does do SSS and light emitters.

To speed up the render as the rays won't have to travel into the "Poser void" in an otherwise empty scene.

(I timed it and it really saves a couple of seconds) :-)

Sorry for coming back to this argument, I'm not a newbie since I'm using Poser from 1, then 4, 6, 7, 8 and now 9, but the time to play with it is always less and less.

Can someone please specify how to do this?

Going BTB

Back To Basics

Going back to the title I mean :-)

Each end user should use the application he/she loves best and is most comfortable with.
Same for the figures used as has been so beautifully demonstrated here.

Use whatever figure YOU like best or that is the most cenvenient for the project in hand.

Lately, i have been sipping down again into the Low End Poly figures, and having a TON of fun with them.

But? From time to time, I creep  back into the Higher Poly figures.
Oh, shame on me.
Then I feel defeated.
Then I am angry at myself that I needed a High Poly figure, and that I was incabable of doing the work with a Low Poly figure.

I find it a personal challenge to do "More" with "Less".

But??
It takes time.
Lots of time.

Happy Posering Everybody.

Thanks, I know BB's Envsphere, what I'm asking is how to add it only for speed purposes.

I can imagine that I have to turn off "visible on raytracing" or there's a shader trick in the Material Room.

That's what I need to know.

I'm not sure what you mean by "speed purposes" LOL. What most of use do is set up an empty scene, add the envirosphere, add our image of choice to the envirosphere and save that scene as the default scene in General Preferences. That way, everytime you start a new document, the envirosphere loads.

At this point I have misunderstood something...

I was thinking to add an Envsphere, or at least something like that, as BB said:

Quote - IDL is not on?

OK then I misunderstood what you meant when you said you were using the Envirosphere.

So you're not using the EnvSphere for its light, nor its reflections? Then why mention it? Or are you using a reflecting skin shader?

LaurieA posted Sat, 11 February 2012 at 11:38 AM

The envirosphere casts light (you can render a scene with no lights and just the envirosphere and you'll have a render). The light is completely ambient but your scene will still be lit. It also gives your reflective surfaces something to reflect. For instance, put an image of the sky as the texture on the sphere and you'll see the sky and clouds reflecting in your windows, chrome car bumpers, whatever. You can also use a light with it to simulate the sun.
