With all the new ladies around here I wanted to start a thread about alternative male figures.  Whenever I see a new one I pick it up, although some haven't gotten much support and other's are worth mentioning because some of you may not have seen them.  When I say alternative figures, I mean those that aren't Poser native men or Daz males.

From left to right we have:

Apollo 2007:  Free with basic clothing, characters, and textures all free.  There are still some 3rd party add ons floating around for him.

Behemoth 1:  There were some characters and clothing as well as pose sets avaialable when he came out.

Behemoth 2:  Greatly improved over the orginal figure, no clothing to speak of other than what comes with him free--he's also a free figure.  Comes with a caucasian texture map as well.  I'm hoping Sixus will make some stuff for him, he's a good Freak alternative.

Vincent Parkter: One additional texture map available and rather limited wardrobe.

Rikishi:  Rikishi is very interesting and a very well made figure if you want a fat guy for you renders.  His default is a sumo wrestler, but there are several clothing sets for him and two alternate characters:  a black male and a caucasian male which both look highly realistic.

Senya: Slav man, no extra clothing or textures for him.

Behemoth 2 has Cross Dress support for clothing conversion. Rikishi has Wardrobe wizard support as well as Apollo and Vincent Parker.

Clark is still kicking around, but I don't own him--you can still find some clothing and textures around for him if you look hard enough.

Does anyone kinow of any other male figures that aren't toons?

Wow, I didn't even realize Nesterenko was still making figures ;). Either I just haven't been paying attention or he must have been someplace like 3D Commune or other places I never went ;).

Where did you find Rikishi

I bought Rikishi right here at Rendo. Is that who made him Laurie? I also have Clark. I wish he had better open mouth morphs. TG and I both tried, she was more successful at it than I was.

And Tom, Don't you have Sixus 1's Adam and Adam 2? Where can I find Slav?

I give you....Rikishi Claus....

Tomsde posted Sat, 04 February 2012 at 10:23 PM

Yep Rikishi is here and the latest character for him just came out last year I believe--you can also find Rikishi's clothing here as well.

The Senyo figure can be found at Content Paradise, I added the mustache.  I didn't think of the project human male, he comes with Poser.  I have Adam 2, who is pretty similar to the Project Human male--didn't think to include them in the group shot.  Oh, and I forgot HIM (with his counter part her)--not very human looking but there's a great mummy off of him that's quite good.  There's a good space suit for HIM--makes a decent alien.

infinity10 posted Sat, 04 February 2012 at 10:29 PM

How about Adam 2 ?

And, Maybe by Akatora ?

Also more male figures and toons from the likes of 3D Universe and Smith Micro.

Dont forget about 9mbi´s political characters, they are dirt cheap.

not impossible to do, but they need a lot of work, also morph-wise

Tomsde posted Sun, 05 February 2012 at 7:25 AM

Senya was created by OKRandy, you can find him here:

http://www.contentparadise.com/productDetails.aspx?id=19856

Akatora?  Where's he at?

I think HIM and Project Human would need a lot of love before they were someone you'd want to use.

Yes there are Toon guys, but I was thinking more realistic when I started this thread, there are also some male monsters.  I have a lot of toom guys, I'll have to whip up some new renders and show them too.

MacMyers posted Sun, 05 February 2012 at 7:26 AM

I have all of the 9mbi figures and they are lots of fun.

Although I did make what I thought was a pretty clever scene with them and it cost me a water boarding and 6 days at Gitmo.

I am not sure if it is kosher for me to post this but I spotted this thread and put both Vini and Senya on sale at 50% off.

With these hard times if any of you want one of the figures and just do not have the funds to purchase send me site mail and I will see what I can do for you.

Cheers

You are welcome Tomsde, and thank you for posting info on Senya. :) Not many people do know about Senya or Vini unfortunately.

He was one of the last developments that started at 3dCommune and was never released there. I bought the rights to him from Mark and finished his development to the best of my ability. Thanks to Suze for testing him and finding issues I had missed he finally got released.

Tomsde posted Sun, 05 February 2012 at 9:20 PM

For those of you who are curious, here are the PH Male Left, Adam 2 (middle), and HIM (right).  HIM does make a decent alein/mummy.  Sorry PH Males is scantily dressed--he doesn't have any clothes.  Not much I can do to make these guys pretty . . .

SteveJax posted Sun, 05 February 2012 at 9:29 PM

It the textures.....

Tomsde posted Sun, 05 February 2012 at 9:47 PM

The bodies aren't bad, but I do think the faces need some work.  At any rate these guys aren't supported, it would be hard to dress them unless you were using dynamic clothing--the ones that do have some clothes don't come with a pair of shoes even.  I think these were highly experimental, a developer might be able to do more with them--other than the spacman/mummy I've not been able to find a use for them.  The female version of HIM, HER seemed to have had more support--there are a lot more things available for HER--textures and clothing and hair.  I just don't have the time or talent to be able to do much with them--I think if someone worked on the heads with Z-Brush and made some decent textures you might have something there.  If anyone who worked on developing these is reading this thread I mean no offense--you did a hell of a lot better than I could have done.

kobaltkween posted Mon, 06 February 2012 at 10:01 AM

You know, the open source Zygote figures are still available.  And Phantom3D/Diogenes has a comprehensive rigging course at Poser Place now.   The Zygote male seems pretty well made.

Tomsde posted Mon, 06 February 2012 at 10:29 AM

Poser Pro 2012 comes with redistributable figures than can be worked on.  I am not a modeler, I can create some very basic props and that's it--nor is my texturing very good.  I'm really more interested in buying things made by other people.

kobaltkween posted Mon, 06 February 2012 at 10:55 AM

Sorry, I genuinely didn't realize this thread wasn't a response to the development of "new ladies," many of whom are still being modeled and therefore are less developed than the Zygote meshes.  Which, by the way, look infinitely better to me than any of the human meshes that came with PP 2012.   And unlike so many, seem to already have a pretty realistic head and proportions, to go by what I've seen so far.  But you're right, it probably doesn't matter to anyone reading this what could be done, just what already has.  And if it's not relevant to you and you're the OP, it's probably not relevant to anyone who stops by.

Odd then that the image shown on that page is of Sixus' Project Human male. ???

kobaltkween posted Mon, 06 February 2012 at 11:33 AM

Yeah, I noticed that, but I know they weren't the same figure before and it certainly doesn't look like a Sixus1 figure to me when I load it in Blender.  And I know that when they were released, the PHM Sixus1 figure and the Zygote figures were entirely different meshes.  IIRC, someone called DADZ did a rudimentary rigging for the Zygote figures, but I could be wrong.

Oh, and this figure is way bigger than Poser scale.  But I'll load both the Sixus1 PHM and Zygote figure into Blender and check.

kobaltkween posted Mon, 06 February 2012 at 11:45 AM

Yeah, even accounting for the difference in pose, I'm not seeing more than a rudimentary similarities between the two.  And just to say, the PHM figure is scaled up by 2.5 and the Zygote figure is scaled down by 0.028.  The PHM figure is a different resolution.  I'd really have to start delving into the mesh to be certain that the PHM wasn't derived from the Zygote one, but it's definitely a different mesh.

kobaltkween posted Mon, 06 February 2012 at 11:52 AM

Here's a comparison of their heads.  Different basic head shapes, different lips, different ears.... I think it would be kind of weird to have the Zygote male and transform it to the PHM, but you never know.

kobaltkween posted Mon, 06 February 2012 at 11:55 AM

Sorry, here's one where the top of their heads aren't cut off.  Preview render in Blender isn't something I do a lot.

Tomsde posted Mon, 06 February 2012 at 12:11 PM

Oh, don't get me wrong, I am very interested in new figure development!  I just couldn't be the one that would be developing them.  BTW, Sixus in another forum, announced a new line of human figures--also a new male and showed a preview that actually is something I will buy as soon as it is released. I didn't know PHM was one of theirs--but it's an old figure and things have progressed so much since then.   I really do like Sixus's stuff--especially the new Behemoth and want to get the unidwarf one day as well.

kobaltkween posted Mon, 06 February 2012 at 12:22 PM

Yeah, I saw their post about new human figures, as well as Tate's.  They all look incredibly cool and interesting, and I'm going to be watching them.  The Sixus1 figures look a bit more stylized than I think I'd find easy to incorporate in my own work in default, but you never know what the community will do.  And I never know what I'll end up needing for my images.  The PHM in default kind of reminds me of the "Man in a Can" aerosol spray from the mad scientists trade fair in the cartoon version of Tick.   Made by a woman, he dissolves in an hour with a "fresh scent of potpourri."  Comes in sandalwood and lavender.  >;D  hehehehehe!  One of my favorite jokes in a cartoon that almost definitely went over kids' heads.  I could see doing a scene with one of them.

LaurieA posted Mon, 06 February 2012 at 12:53 PM

Wow, that IS a huge difference...lol. Wonder why he used Sixus' figure's image on the site? LOL. Ah well, totally different figures ;). They could be worth rigging.

Since someone mentioned Toon men I just wanted to post another picture of some of my favorite ones by 3rd party vendors:

Chunk

Heim

James Johnson

Bong (Monsuer Bong Character)

If you guys have any notable ones I've not thought of or don't have feel free to post them here please.

SteveJax posted Wed, 08 February 2012 at 10:22 PM

Where'd you find him? I can just see him miming his way out of a box!

Tomsde posted Thu, 09 February 2012 at 5:48 AM

You can buy Monsuer Bong right here (not sure if the spelling is right)--there is also a female version for Bonga (who I don't have yet) from the same content creator.  Yes I can envisions a lot of fun toon situations for him--like him being an artist as well as a mime.  He comes with a bottle of wine and loaf of French Bread props.

Sometimes these figures are hard to find--it takes tediously browsing through different content categories to find some gems--but if I hadn't taken the time to browse I wouldn't have found Rikishi, Bong, or a lot of the other fun figures I have.

I'm inspired, I'm gonna create some free (*and commercial) clothing for PH Male :)

I did a free clothing Merchant Resource for the PH Lo Res Female a while back so I might as well include the other PH characters, I'll probably create a MR and a series of actual outfits and hair, hehe...

Well off to design now, pm me if any of you have requests for types of clothing ^_~

Tomsde posted Thu, 09 February 2012 at 8:24 AM

Since the PH male comes with Poser he's more likely to get used if there are things for him, including a decent texture map.  I think you should start with an everyday outfit--including shoes and work from there.

SteveJax posted Thu, 09 February 2012 at 9:18 AM
