Guys im a Maya person new to vue im following tutorials done using VUE 8.5  and im running VUE 9.5  on a mac pro, everything was smooth till i got to the point of trying to have color variations to my forest(the one im working on). heres how the instructor did it (i have attached 2 renders one before the gradient was applied and the one after)

1.Double click the material to open the advanced material editor

2.click the color tab

3.check the box next to Variable color

4.double click in the box next to parametric to bring up a list of gradients

5.choose a gradient named FIELDS

6.Click populate

Well the problem is its working on his trees and when i do the same thing to my forest all trees are getting realy dark instead of getting the same results the instructor is getting which is the origial green trees and some brown trees in the forest.  Is there a different way of doing this in VUE 9.5    PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Lionhead07 - did you forget to attach your two renders?

You might check to make sure you have the same material selected for edit as your instructor.  That would make a difference.

Just out of curiosity - what tutorials are you following?  Are they available online?  Can you post a link?

Thanks for the screen shots, Lionhead - Can you show a screen shot of the Advanced Material Editor and the material you are editing?  Is it just the leaves of the trees you are changing?

E-on re-broke materials for ecosystems in build 10008456 of Vue Infinite 10.  So I'm wondering if the version of Vue you have was the first with this bug (turns every tree into a dark grey color)?

Hi Lionhead - thanks for the AME screenshot.  That helps a great deal.  It looks to me as though you are trying to edit the color of the ground, rather than the foliage of the trees in your ecosystem.  You need to select the material for the leaves and edit that color instead.  You can find the tab to edit the leaves in the ecosystem in the 2nd tab in the World Browser:

Edit Material

I am no expert with Vue so if this doesn't do the trick, maybe someone else can lend a hand.

Try again using just one tree in your ecosystem list.  It looks like the example has more than one tree type in the eco.  Then add another tree and see if your material stays.  Also, you have "default" named for both materials.  Change the eco material name to something else.  Mine is "ecodefault".

I am using ......8479 and I have no trouble varying the trees. Check your sun and see if you have 100% density for shadows. That might be your problem. If you put it to around 33% you will lighten up those very dark shadows. Of course, the placement of the sun might have an effect, also, and the instructor might not have mentioned that.

Just a suggestion.

8479 fixes the bug.  I'm getting the same results (trees look dead) in 8456.  In build 8360, the trees come out fine.
