Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Mar 21 9:45 am)
I haven't had good results in the Face Room myself, but I'd like to try it again some time.
New figures are always exciting to me, there are definitely different body types, and certain types of figures don't morph into certain body types well. M3 was created because of the demand for a slimmer, more runway model type of male--he did not morph into a decent looking body builder or even heavy man very well. Like wirey, thin real life people he didn't bulk up well. David was completely versatile though, he could be very thin or extremely well built. It seems that M5 will be more similar to M3, but the Genesis system will probably allow him to be just about any body type you'd want.
I don't know if you've heard abou the new Sixus line of human figures for Poser only, the Humanz series of WM Poser people. They previewed the man and the woman and they are definitely different when it comes to body types. I would say they are highly stylized human forms and are supposed to have a whole line of clothing and options when they come out.
Perhaps the most disspointing thing about new figure creation is the utter lack of support they sometimes face. Vendors often times will not back up a new figure because they can make more money making stuff for the Daz people. Apollo initally had a lot of support and a decent following but he was rather the exception. I think now though, since the Generation 5 Daz figures are not usable in Poser, we'll have a lot more options. My message to content creators would be if you create a human figure please also created at least one complete, versatile outfit that can be used on them "out of the box", it would be a great help in getting renders of your figure out there and having them adopted by users.
Quote - It's always fun to see new figures. I don't know what the technical challenges are but the idea of custom heads always seemed appealing to me. Except for perhaps a very heavy torso and maybe a very thin one, I don't necessarily see a big need for more bodies.
Speaking of Dina, I see that her sister Vina D is still for sale ($39.95 ??). Her big feature was the ability to wear Vicky's clothes. I seem to recall there was some controversy around that in general. Is it forbidden or something you have to negotiate with DAZ - or simply too many technical drawbacks? It seems like that would solve a big issue with new figures. Even if it couldn't be done based on a DAZ figure, having a new figure being able to wear Antonia garb or anything that has some stuff out there already would be a big boost I'd think.
Daz definitely does NOT like it when a competing figure borrows Vickys joints and what not. They've had a fit with other figures as well ;).

I'm talking about actual custom modeled heads to be 'grafted' onto a body like the 'Frankensteining' that folks have done in the past. IIRC there was at least one female figure that used that technique although I think there were only a couple of heads. I suspect that a lot of people may be content with the degree of variation the morphs provide, another reason a new figure has to be fairly unique to get any attention. Probably not everyone is from the 'I can always spot school,' or maybe are less bothered by it.

That was my recollection. I don't know what Dacort didvis a vis Vina to allow him to continue to sell her. OTOH maybe that's why she's still working hard for the money - daddy still paying DAZ :-)

Quote - I saw where Miki was on sale again right after the release of P9/2012... Less than $20 if I remember correctly. I didn't take a close look, but I am assuming she is WM too...
Miki 2 is under $20, maybe five cents. Miki 3 the same amount under $40. Lots of stuff for Miki 3 available, I feel another hit to my CC coming on. Probably also Anastasia and Eternal Judy.

Thanks for the link, found LinLin and TenTen, didn't have them before, didn't even know about them. Tenten for the PT, should be interesting, also for Judy and Vicky, I'll assume V3, not sure yet. I'll know later.

Here's the Wayback link to the original download pages that shows images of the items. The 'Vine Cloths' are really nice. All I have is a thumbnail of one enlarged here.

YOu know, and not just picking on you for this, but if I signed on to every linked site that required a sign in, I'd probably have six or seven pages of usernames/passwords. I don't have, and I don't have any site that has my CC# on file, anymore. Last one was DAZ, got rid of that. BUt I wish, if a site required a sign in, that you'd mention that in the post and save me the time of looking for something I'm not going to do. Thought about getting one generic username, one generic password, just don't ever give out any CC#. Works for all sites, except a lot of them, my username is unavailable. No, not worth the effort.
All it takes is state,"Site requires a sign in" and I'll just ignore it.

Quote - Sorry, I thought my documentation said Miki 3 was weight mapped :0( . Oh well, she is a good figure, perhaps someone will weight map her one day.
Miki once was the toast of the town, but now she seems to be falling out of favor--does anyone know why that's the case?
She has a combination of sphere and capsule falloff zones, which is why she only works in later versions.
Lack of support might have something to do with her falling out of favor, she's not a DAZ figure, a lot of the PA's won't bother with her. I'd like to see her weight mapped someday too, that might be all she needs to get a good push. (And my interest a little higher, but starting to buy for another figure right now is hard to justify.) Poserworld has some for all three versions, not a whole lot.

Quote - Best wishes with your project Rokket. I just don't use a lot of female characters in my renders; in fact I'm not even sure why I bought Miki 3 other than she was popular.
I want to make her for my own purposes. I want to do a full-blown animated movie, and figure if I can create the characters, I don't have to worry about license issues or any of that. I know what I am asking of myself will be MASSIVE, but I don't have anything but time to learn the craft. I know just enough now to be dangerous. I have so much more to learn. I didn't realize going into this that there was so much to it.
And I can't spend money on high dollar programs, so the best bet for me is Blender, and I am having a bugger of a time learning it. I will get my head around it eventually. Then watch out....
If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.
Modeling programs can be rather complex--I find Carrara to be complex also, but it's amazing the things that can be done with it when one learns! I saw a video called Modern Times on Vimeo that was made using Carrara and it was up to the standards of a Hollywood Studio. I know you can do a lot of great things with Blender, you should search for tutorials on YouTube if you haven't already. I learn more from videos than I do from reading, I'm more of a visual person.
I have a lot of tutorials on Blender already downloaded on my external harddrive. I just have to put the effort into it. I have Wings 3D, Sculptris and Poser right now, and when I get a creative streak in me, I tend to lean toward what I already know how to use to work with. I am going to have to find the discipline to learn Blender. I will sit down with it and give myself a goal to learn it by the summer. But I am wishy-washy with things. I tend not to spend too much time on any given project, and have about 35 of them in progress at any given time. I think I have finished about half of them, but always end up going back and tweaking anyhow.

Wow, I think we might be twins, separated at birth.

are you planing on making the movie in poser or blender?? if you go the blender route theres 2 add ons that making rigging a bit easier, rigify (should be in trunk on a new build but may need enabling) this is pretty quick to learn the basics and theres blennrig (http://jpbouza.com.ar/wp/blenrig/ ) this looks awesome on there vids but its cost me a lump of hair

Heh...anything Blender costs me hair ;).
Laurie
I don't let it cost me hair. If I can't figure it out, I just put it down and come back later. Usually after a cup of coffee or a short break, I will pick it back up, approach it from a different direction, and then it comes to me. If not, there is another day!

Quote - Miki 4 will be weightmapped and is due out later this year, possibly for the Spring.
Miki4 already? I think they need to stick with Miki3 and WM her while trying to give her some exposure because the best models in the world won't matter if no one knows about her.
If Miki4 isn't a WM'd Miki3 then I hope they make her face more like Miki1. Miki1 had a really realistic asian face, Miki2 wasn't and Miki3... I don't know, there's something off about her face that I could never pin point.
