In DS4 and as a newbie I have some questions about exporting in the Export dialogue box.

  1. What's the difference between Base Figure & Conforming Figure and which do you use most often? And why?

  2. If you want to export your character with hair, clothes & props, what setting do you use?

  3. Tied to #2 above, what are the advantages or differences of using EXP setting? Is that what you use for the question above?...

  4. and/or Collect Files?

Hi Mark

there are 7 export formats to choose from, each with their own options.

the one you need depends on the software that will be importing it at the other end!

is there a specific destination you have in mind?

At the moment, Meipe & Xameva's Perfect V4 for use with their Perfect body parts series.

But later, perhaps Carrara.

I'd like to be able to export my characters, particularly V4 with hair, clothes & props included without losing anything in the process.  Whether to another program or within DS.

Your looking at the CR2 exporter so -

  1. No real difference, DAZ created the exporter to make it a little easier for people to get their rigged clothing & hair (Conformers) to 'auto conform' (fit to in DS) to a base figure like V4/M4 when the item is loaded into a scene when the base figure is selected.

  2. DS isn't like Poser, you can't save to the Library and get a cr2 with 20 items stored in it (which is a long standing bug in Poser, but they didn't dare change it as most use it rather than the PZ3), in DS you only get to export one item with the cr2 exporter.

  3. The EXP system will remove any morph channels and morph deltas from the figure, and store them in a subfolder of 'Runtime/Library', but as it's a complicated system and takes a lot longer load an EXP cr2 than one with the morphs embedded most don't use it.

For getting something from DS to Carrara I think your looking at the collada or FBX exporters.

But for just using in DS save your 'character' as a .daz scene file (make sure there's nothing else in the scene first), then you can merge it into any scene.
