Anyone have experience with Meshlab. I downloaded and installed it.
But anytime I try and convert a mesh to quads or pretty much do anything with it, it crashes- freezes up. I've tried both the 32 and 64 bit version, each does the exact same thing.

I've never had anything except buggy frustration with Mesh Lab. Try AccuTrans 3D.

Thanks, I'll look into it!

Make sure you have the very latest version. It used to crash frequently, but the latest one is rock solid.

MeshLab has a lot of very useful features, but is not stable and often it crashes. The crashes depend on the mesh and what you want to do.
The orst problem is that destroys the groups of an obj mesh and turns all into triangles.

And AccuTrans doesn't do any of that. It preserves your groups, material zones and only turns to triangles if you tell it to.

But MeshLab can do things that nobody else can do such as turning a cloud of points into a mesh. For example you take a face obj morph target (only vertices information) and then reconstruct the morph face mesh.
The mesh decimations also are very good.

I second kawecki - Meshlab does very good decimations. It has never crashed on me, but there is always a first time...
