Greetings....

I have a single question and would like some guidence or some insight before continuing...

Recently I downloaded (have yet to install) Bryce 7 Pro(I currently have Bryce PLE)...I was wondering...Considering I have so many of my own objects that I have created myself and have them under "objects" and in their own catagory....If I download and install 7 Pro will I loose all of them in the process or will they transfer over to the new version automatically?...Back several years ago when doing the same from version 5.5 to 7 I lost all and was devastated to see all my own objects were not there after upgrading.Difference between then and now is I have far many more that I don't want to lose into the abyss....Is there a set of protocalls to follow or a simple how to that I can read so that this don't happen again...I really would like to try this newer version out but like I said ...not if I'm going to lose all my own objects....

This is how I do it and keep all my old or personal objects, skies, and materials I have collected over the years.

Create a folder and name it appropiately and save it anywhere you can find it again. Go to the Bryce folder on your system and open it, go to the presets folder in there and copy the "objects" in it  to the new folder you just created and paste it there. You can do the same for the skies and materials as well.

When you install the new Bryce, just copy the contents of your new folder into the "objects" folder in the new presets folder created by the installation - BTW, it is always a good idea to keep copies of all those things somewhere else , especially burnt to a disk in case there is some sort of program malfunction or corruption of the original files. Then you will always have them to reload back into any reinstallation of Bryce. 

Well, here is what I do... I don't install the latest version into the same folder as my old one. That way I still have something to work with, in case something goes wrong with the newest installation. I also backup my contents and put it into another folder far away from the original ones when I do the installation. That way I have it when it's needed. When everything is working okay, I go to the new installation folder and rename the preset folders, for example, in the preset folder, Objects, Installed, I'll renamed it Installed71 for the version and copy over my old folders... It works just fine.

Just remember to rename the new folders to keep your old ones or vice versa before copying over.

Now... I have to tell you that I haven't tried it yet with Bryce 7 cus I haven't had time , looks very interesting and maybe someone here can tell us if it is ok... I definitely will try it as soon as I have some time...

Both rstars & Thunderstones suggestions are excellent & I always do both (backup all my preset libraries & install new versions of Bryce into a different folder) whenever I install a new release of Bryce. Ideally, new versions of software should NEVER overwrite files that are designated as "user libraries", but I would never, ever risk counting on that...

Okay.....Thanks for the input...Will try it and see what happens...And yes ...have all objects to date I've created personally burnt to disc....way to many hours of my life not to have taken those steps....lol....Once again many thanks for your time on this matter...

Take your presets folder and put it on your desktop, then install Bryce, and drag your preset folder into the Bryce app folder and replace the presets folder when it asks

Exactly as Clay suggests. There are not only objects but materials ,skies, and textures that all need to be safely stowed during a fresh install.

All went well...I'm now Bryce 7 Pro.....Thanks for all the imput and advice...I used a little from each who tossed into the hat their suggestions...Many Thanks for all your help....See you in the galleries....(smiles)...
