I'm sure I will getting hungry here this month.

OK - you asked for it...

Taken earlier tonight at the Islamadora Fish Market, a restaurant inside the Bass Pro Shop in Independence, Missouri.

This is called the "Super Chipper" and is an appetizer, if you can believe it! It consists of a big pile of thick potato chips made right in the restaurant, topped with melted cheese, diced scallions, tomatoes, and crumbled bacon and sour cream.

We took about half of this home with us.....

Bill (bmac62) suggested posting this here, so blame him if this makes you hungry! LOL! Thanks, Bill!

LOL Rod, should be called the Super "Coronary" Chipper

I think you just blew away poor ol' helanker's entry with about 300x the calories and fat. But as the saying goes, no pleasure of life is worth while passing up to gain 2 more years in a nursing home. Eat it.

Lol, Helle: Trust me, your brain is MUCH bigger! (You have a ton of great food photos---you should definitely post a few, you'd make the whole site salivate!)

And Lol, Rod & Roxy: I saw that in your gallery---a great capture of an obscenely rich "appetizer". I used to eat things like that, which probably explains why I'm short, bald, and reeeeallly slow...

My two, below, will be far less exotic: A few liqueurs. I went for a slight "chiaroscuro" look. They're drinks, but they're still food...

"Heart burn" was the first I thought about, when I saw the picture of the "Super Chipper", but I am sure it was tasty. Yea, and Roxy, you are right, I already gained 4 pounds, just looking at it. I want to kick Bill´s PO PO ...... LOL!

I deny to show it to my son and Hubby. My son Dennis 35 is with us on holiday, so we eat a bit more unhealthy food. We ate potato chips yesterday.  Normally I dont want to even cook it, because I cannot resist on eating it and I dont want to, LOL! I´ll try to take a shot of our dinner later  today. :)

HAHAHA! Thanks Mark, but then it is only an empty shell :) Yes I could post food shots, but we were suppose to post NEW shots. lol  Maayyybeee a few I WILL post, as some of them show food I only cook once a year. :)

Beautiful and elegant bottle shots. I didnt think about that. I could have posted a few myself :)

anahata.c posted Thu, 05 April 2012 at 4:36 AM

Lol...here's to bald slow people!

Maybe you'll enjoy this: When I was in advertising, I worked with food photographers. We'd enter a pro studio with nothing but food & tons of lights, and a lonely pizza in the middle of a huuuuge table. They'd spend 2 hours setting up lights/reflectors/backdrops, and then 3 hours shooting. They used 2 or 3 cameras, lots of lenses & backdrops & many rolls of film...

I later saw the shots that the photographers made for 'themselves': Stunning abstracts, like aerial shots of pizza, with hills, valleys, rivers, etc. I asked, "why don't you send THESE to the client???" They answered, "are you kidding? No one would buy THESE..."

(I was an illustrator. I didn't photograph then...)

Helle, I know we're supposed to do 'new'. (I'm guilty: My shots were from a month ago.) I love the cauliflower. I'm sure you'll come up with some scrumptious shots...I wouldn't show that potato dish to a lot of people either. It's dangerous, lol...

Oh well, about good things, is that a plate Rod, I wonder if there was fish in it too, 'cause it was the fishmarket.
Fish is the good food, so no heart attack, then.

Mark you have a nice stock, be careful that this is not about the expiration date, or is therefore too much alcohol in it?

Fantastic photo's and a kind of 'food pep-talk' here.

dochtersions posted Thu, 05 April 2012 at 12:09 PM

Does this look GOOD!
I don't know what root fruits are, I guess vgetables, I see carrots too.

If I would say what we eat for dinner, nobody would believe me.
:
We have many weeds in the garden. Especially Elder.
That is very healthy.
And so we have eaten a stew with potatoes from weeds. :D

Nettle soup I'm gonne to make too.
But still needs to pick this.
It tastes delicious, really.

helanker posted Thu, 05 April 2012 at 12:21 PM

OH I believe you, Jacomina. My sister in law makes nettle soup too. She also said it tastes good. I havent tried it :) HA, If I found weed carrots in MY garden I would cook them too :)  Yes, We call all kinds of root, root fruits. Maybe it is not the right word in english. But it is all kinds of edible roots. We buy them frozen, so they are easy to cook LOL!  We can buy OCEANS of different frozen vegetables in the supermarket and they say it is full of vitamins, because they are cleaned and frozed very quikly after they are havested. I desided to believe it :) We eat alot of such. also lighter vegetables than roots.

RodS posted Thu, 05 April 2012 at 5:12 PM

Oh, those carved fruits are just priceless!! And those eggs are great, too!

Yeah, advertising photography is a whole different animal... I had a photographer friend that worked at Hallmark years ago - I once watched thier photo department set up a shoot for a line of Christmas ornaments they were featuring. I counted no less than 14 or 15 hot lights being used to illuminate the set. I must have looked dazzled, because one of the photographers chuckled, and said "This is available light photography... We're using every available light!"

Now, Helle, that chicken dish looks just mouth watering!

BTW, we're going to Olive Garden tomorrow for the last day of my vacation.... I'll be sure to take my camera......🤤

Jacomina, your smiling fruit is fantastic!  Not only the photograph, but the setup.  Outstanding!  And I love those eggs.  Beautifully colorful!

Helle, your dinner looks delicious!  That does it.  I've cooked twice today, and never took a picture.  The camera is going in the kitchen on the tripod right now!!

anahata.c posted Thu, 05 April 2012 at 7:57 PM

Jacomina, your photos are beautifully presented. Which is no surprise from all I've seen of your gallery. Since this is about food photography, let me say that you've not only shot the food clearly & vividly, but your backgrounds are perfect. Because the light & simple backgrounds set off the vividness of your foods. And I love the arrangement of smiling fruits (& veggies). It must be great to eat in your home.

Helle, now that's what I was talking about: A beautifully arranged & photographed plate of food! I like the white light on the edge, and how the rice is the 'highlight' of the shot. Can I speak "out of class" here? Helle sent me a photo of tabouli, and the photo was so lush, I went out & bought ten containers of the stuff! That's the power of food-photography.

And Rod, I look forward to another installment! And you're dead on about advertising photography: A simple piece of fruit requires 2 million lights and reflectors. You'd think they were photographing nuclear fission! It's hard to believe everything that corporations will do to make a bowl of cereal look like the Second Coming, lol.

Oh, and those liqueurs are good for another year or two. So if anyone wants some, help yourself. I'm sure there's an app for turning digital Frangelico into REAL frangelico...I'll check my iPad...

auntietk posted Thu, 05 April 2012 at 8:42 PM

auntietk posted Thu, 05 April 2012 at 9:52 PM

Okay.  This is a challenge, right?  So I get to suck at it at the beginning and HOPEFULLY get better as we go along?  LOL!  I was going to take a picture of Mandy's dinner, but ... well ... it didn't work out so well.  :P  She's pretty quick on the draw when it comes to getting her treats.

auntietk posted Thu, 05 April 2012 at 9:54 PM

So I started doing setups on the kitchen table until I got something I liked, but the lighting is all wrong, even after I postworked the holy hoo-ha out of it.  There's a shelf up in the corner, and you can see the shadow.  We're talking about ways to give me a white background or something.

It's a challenge!  I feel challenged!  LOL!  Better next week ... I hope ...

RodS posted Thu, 05 April 2012 at 10:10 PM

You know, honestly, Tara, I like this lighting - it has a very nice tranquil feel to it.

Love the one with Mandy - she obviously doesn't care a hoo-ha (LOL) about composition or lighting, just getting to the goodies! :-D

auntietk posted Fri, 06 April 2012 at 1:41 AM

Thanks Rod!  :)

Yeah, Mandy has kibble in her bowl all day long.  It's not like she starves or anything.  But every day at 5:30 she gets about a tablespoon of wet food, and if we're two minutes late with it, she lets us know!  It's the highlight of her day, and is apparently important enough that she's learned to tell time.  It's uncanny.

Glad you like the (mostly postworked) lighting!  I'll gracefully accept your compliment and not try to talk you out of it.  >:D<  (I'm still going to try and do better, though!  LOL!)

"If your pictures aren't good enough, you're not close enough."  ...  Robert Capa

anahata.c posted Fri, 06 April 2012 at 2:06 AM

Oh I have to agree with Rod, Tara. I really like the lighting. It probably wasn't what you wanted, so you're disappointed, but the combination of shadows & your postwork make it look tranquil (I agree) and quietly dramatic. (I take it you smoothed the lighting in postwork, because if you say that a shelf cast a shadow, I don't see any "shelf" shadows in your photo.)

A while back, you did some very dramatic things with lighting & dark. I think you're a natural with it.

And the mandy shot is a riot! Dogs don't understand the finer points of photography. Give them one ISO setting, maybe an f-stop, they're done! But hey, that's just me...Does Mandy ever say, "is there even a CHANCE I could eat at the table??????"

And btw, I took my pics off the forum, and saw they were labeled, "file 4108332..." You think that Rembrandt, Van Gogh & Michelangelo had those titles? Maybe the original Sistine Chapel was "3394169 by Michelangelo. Zoom is best..."

Ok, I'm tired. Love the shots! Have a good night!

helanker posted Fri, 06 April 2012 at 3:53 AM

ROFL! Tara, I love the shot of Mandy speed eating HAHAHA!  You know, after Magnus has been sick, he has to eat special diet food. He doesnt want to eat it, unless he can play it out of the activity ball.  FUNNY. :)

And the still life you put up so beautiful, looks awesome and good for a painting too. THat Cheese looks interesting...

Yes, Mark. Didnt even know that tabouli was the name of the food, you drooled about LOL!   I might post it here :)

And Helle: That's the shot! I bought 3 different taboule's, but none of them looked that good. (I made my own, btw, and used enough lemon to eat through the earth's core.) That's a very mouth-watering capture, Helle!

Ok. My camera's not working, so I have to pull out a 2 year-old 'Seder' table. For those who don't know, the Seder is the Passover supper. That's matza on the table. Mark, I like that you showed your dog-food on a Zagat's coaster! Maybe Zagat's is printing guides for dogs now. It looks edible for humans, almost...

Mark, I'm Near North. Tara & Marilyn (beachzz) have lots of terrific shots of my area in their gallery. Tara & Bill (bmac62) also have terrific shots of the Loop. I'm re-learning the Loop from Tara's gallery. Lots of different beauty in Indiana (I lived in Bloomington for a year.) Sounds like you're in the Gary/Hammond area...beautiful dunes there too.

Your pets are eating better than I am! Agree with Tara on the lighting, looks like something from a very expensive French restaurant.

Below are 3 Edward Weston links. Famous 'pepper' studies: Contour, flow, mystery, etc. My computer's sputtering, hope I can get these up...

Hi Friends!

Momentarily not been here.
Man, what a tasty photographs, beautifully set tables.
Simply brilliant. (Rod, Mark Clive, dashboard-Jehovah, Helle, hope I missed nowone ;-))

The dog-bread of course I do not eat, but I must say, I have sometimes mistaken as I was in the supermarket, and almost bought a tin of this, assuming it was for people.

Now, here my first picture of this week.
Karel would bake pancakes, while I was upstairs.
I thought what do I smell?
Dirty!

I'm going down, the entire kitchen blue smoke, Karel is in the room behind his PC.
Well, I've thrown out that pancake, with here "and profile".
It's like a face. I give them the title:

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. (face to face)
Hoping this will do it for 'food';-)
Cheers!

Meisiekind posted Thu, 12 April 2012 at 1:42 PM

Oh Jacomina - that is so funny!!! Thank you for sharing Karel's slightly burnt pancakes with us!!! LOL...

Hi Photo-friends :)

Before this week has passed, I leave here a (food)product in which Karel is good at making it.
This is one of the smaller-wine-making bottles.
In this case,gooseberries.

Karel has already made excellent wine, for example of peppermint and dandelions.
After the transfer in the normal bottles, it is necessary to wait six months before you drink this.
However, usually in the 6 months, much has already been consumed. :sneaky:

Bye for now,
wishing you a lovely Sunday further.

Hi to All!

Today again two pictures of me with vegetables.
But now, "fractal vegetable."
An Apo-pumpkin, and a Fractal Exploror-cauliflower.

Oh, I think, everything in nature is a kind of fractal.
Except when it is cooked.

Today I have taken pictures of the meals that I cooked,
but these are not yet in my P.C.
So that's probably next week.

A great weekend,

Jacomina, I will come to your house for dinner!   You seem to always have the things I can eat ... lots of greens and vegetables, complex carbs, tofu, chicken ... :)  All delicious, and all on my list!  I'm on my way.

Tonight I made steamed carrots, seven-grain pilaf (from Seeds of Change) and tofu cooked with soy sauce, dill, a little orange juice, a bit of Thai peanut sauce, and a little peanut butter to cut the heat from the peanut sauce.  Oh, boy was that good!

I'll just have to tell you about it, because I didn't think about taking pictures, and honestly ... tofu cooked in a brown sauce isn't very exciting to look at anyway!

It's hard to remember to take pictures of food ... we're out camping, and there are so many things to think about!  :P

One year on the expiry date, hahahaha!
I am for years over that expiration date, so then it's not too bad.
But I let surprising me, as I'm very curious what the cake will be. A cheesecake would also be delicious.

And fruits, many fruits;  cherries or strawberries, I prefer.

MMMMMMmmmmmmmies ;-)
And if you know 'mies' is the German word for nasty.......
I sign with Jacomina, LOL

helanker posted Mon, 30 April 2012 at 9:57 AM

Well it cannot be a cheesecake, because my son is not a cheese eater, but chocolate cakes and fruit layer cakes are his speciality. Now he got a new hobby. He makes bread with sourdough. Sunday we will go and taste his new kind of bread :-) He also makes braided bread that tastes like heaven :)

OH yes, you told me about your name, and because you could never be nasty, I have called you Jacomina ever since.

Did everything myself, including quark, youghurt at that time.
I also had a Kefir-plant, which you can make a healthy drink.
