Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
My first guess, and it is a guess only, is that your Poser.ini file has become corrupted. This is easily fixed by navigating to the Poser filder under My Documents/application data/smith micro/poser and deleting the poser.ini file. It will be recreated the next time you start poser. However, all of your external runtimes will have to be re-imported, and all of your personal tweaks will have the be re-created.
If this solves your problem, I would advise to reset everything the way you like it, and then go back and make a copy of the poser.ini with all your settings. This way, if you need to do this again, you kill poser.ini abd rename poser.ini.copy to poser.ini and you are back in business without having to do all the resets.

Many thanks for the advice to both of you. It appears I will need to take the next step in this process. I did as BB said to do and changed hither to "0" to get rid of the zombies, but this did not fix my issue. I also reset the app to factory defaults in general preferences. I noted that the setting for hither at factory settings is 0.413. I don't know if this is the normal setting or not. Changing it back to zero doesn't get rid of the problem.
I have been working the past couple of days on BB's IBL generator, carefully following instructions ans ensuring I have settings cortrect. When I load the prop, it seems to come in okay, but when I set the render dimensions to 400 X 400 and attempt to render, I get nothing but a brown square. I set it up again and then switched to wireframe mode to see if I could get a glimpse of what was going on. I found that the camera is right on top of the character, and not framed in the viewport. According to the instructions, the image should be 42 inches from the center of the universe and 60 inches off the ground. By backing way out, I can frame the image somewhat, but I am sure it is not correct. Rendering the image gives me a funky image that looks nowhere near like the images on his page. I'll post a screen capture of it a bit later if you tell me what you need to see. I do export the image and then load it into the IBL per page instructions. Trouble is, I am not sure if this is working correctly or not. The images are not anywhere near to my satisfaction. Tweaking light intensity seems to help. Should I redo the .ini file?
TIA

Why are you interested in IBL when you have PP 2010? You should be using my environment sphere and IDL.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
I'm interested in IBL because I am trying to learn as much as I can about light. I understand and visualize light in the real world, but suck at it in the Poser envoronment. Because you are the alleged Light King here, I try to learn as much as I can from you. It is testimony to my ignorance about Poser lighting that I would be uninformed about the use of IDL and your environment sphere in PP 2010. I have the sphere and have been experimenting with that, also. And I still haven't a clue as to what is going on with my cameras...

Do you have the same issues when you switch the display from OpenGL to ShreeD? Perhaps it's not a Poser issue at all, but a videocard thing. Just checking.
And do things change with camera distance, focal length, etc? Have you set the camera size to 100%? Or; just make a printscreen and show us you camera-result and settings. Just help us to help you.

Usually I'm wrong. But to be effective and efficient, I don't need to be correct or accurate.
visit www.aRtBeeWeb.nl (works) or Missing Manuals (tutorials & reviews) - both need an update though

My cameras in PP2010 are doing some very strange things. The main camera doesn't compleytely display a character or clothing correctly, with the characters showing teelth and tounge often, like some weird zmbie. Clothing doesn't seem to fit properly, with the textures not properly displayed. These aren't poke-throughs - they appear as if the texture is over-stretched and has large gaps. Changing to the posing camera fixes all of that. I found this out while trying to adjust some dynamic clothing I am building. It is very odd. Can supply an image if my description isn't clear enough.
The face camera is also acting up, bringing in the character in way below the scene and quite a distance away, with the character appearing as if looking down a well. Very strange.
Camera focal length is always set higher due to my poor vision. While normal settings are usually 55mm on the main camera, I typically have it set at 135 mm. Same with posing camera. This shouodn't be an issue, but it may be causing my difficulties. Focal length of face and posing camera is 55mm on normal.
I'm thinking that I should reset the face camera to its proper viewing mode and then resetting default layout in general preferences to fix the problem, but don't want to try that until I hear from someone with a little more expertise than me. Any help appreciated!
