... a .obj or even a new folder.
Detail required (I hear you demand).
OK. I've just upgrade both my pc (to a big bggr running Win 7 - from an ancient machine running Win 2K) and Poser (from Poser 6 to Poser 9) - a giant step for Diolma-kind.
When I try to save anything out from Poser, I get the result but it is LOCKED. There's a "padlock" on the icons (which probably means something to Win7) and these files/folders cannot be seen outside of Poser.
So (having only owned the new PC for 1 1/2 weeks and the new Poser for 2 days) - what am I missing?
Is it something in Poser or in the way it was installed? Or something else altogether?
If it needs re-installation I'd be happy to do that, but I need to know what is causing this problem. I NEED to get .obj files out of Poser (sometimes posed) so I can use them as templates for modelling clothing and/or for using them in other apps for rendering.
Sorry to be such a pain, but this is the bestest forum I know of to get answers from :-)
Cheers,
Diolma
PS - I KNOW I can create the folders outside of Poser, but that doesn't help the .obj problem..

Save or Export? Not the same thing. Writing OBJ files is Export.
I would ask the second through 50th question, but first you have to answer this one.
Well ok - here's #2 - what folder are you putting the OBJ file in?
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

This is indeed the bestest Forum.
Did you install your content in the location the Poser recommended? If you installed it to the program runtime, with Poser installed in Program Files, you will have problems under Windows 7, and should reinstall Poser with the content either in the recommended default location (shared files IIRC), or install Poser outside of the Program Files directory (or both-I have them installed to a different partition).
In the meantime, try saving the .obj to the My Documents folder...
xpost; I think this was BB's question #1...

@diolma ....to unlock the folder, right click on the folder and then click on the Security tab...click on 'Advanced'......now select 'Change Permissions' in the Advanced window. Another window should open that shows the Permission entries, one of which should be 'Deny'.....remove it and then apply it......then click 'Edit'..check all the blocks, then click 'ok... ...Should unlock the folder.

Thanks all!!
Less than an hour til replies - this is the bestest forum!
Sorry bagginsbill - I should have made it clear: I was referring to "Export", not to "Save" - although that's the only way I know of to get a .obj file anyway :-)
@MaryHines - Do you mean I should do that in Poser? I can't see the files in Win 7 explorer..
Oh - and as far as I can remember, I accepted all the defaults on installation..or did I? Hmmmm... time to try again - thanks, WandW ...
Cheers,
Diolma

u would need to rightclick on the folder that the files or other folders are in
(this might also help for now : http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Graphic/Graphic-Viewers/P3dO-Explorer.shtml
(especially since P3dO will let u see the Poser files & folders & let u rightclick on them to open 'properties'/Security/Advanced'/'Change Permissions'/Edit
afterwards as an added measure, I would also rightclick on the Poser folder and go to 'properties'/Security/Advanced'/'Change Permissions'/Edit

You didn't answer my second question. Where did you attempt to put the obj file. What is the path?
It matters. The advice you are being given by MH may have no bearing on the issue. You need to answer the questions, or suffer a constant barrage of people guessing.

Poser 9 lets you see its files and folders (full paths) too of what's in the library. Why do you mention P3DO explorer? He's not saving a Poser file. He's exporting an OBJ. To some path. One that I suspect is in Program Files, which is a nono.

Yup, bagginsbill - it's a folder under the Poser folder in Program Files. I haven't yet tested saving elsewhere.. it's never been important to me before. I'll try it out now.

YES!! Thankyou, Bagginsbill - saving into "MyDocuments" worked! I can now import the .obj into Modo :-) Now all I have to do is learn how to use Modo... see you all again in about 6 months...
