Hello all!

I have a problem...when I render a face in light I get the eyes, but when the eyes are in shadows I get a deep black void...I know the eyes are there but this is just not natural as you may see in the images...what could be causing this?

Can you post a screenshot of the shader for this character? Also, what version of Poser are you running? Also, what kinds of lights are you using with what kind of shadows?

we use to have this prob with nostrils glowing...dont remember how it was solved, but i think its similar...

:O)

Y'all have a great day.

Yeah, sorry...Poser-pro 2012, the lights just 2 infinite lights, one the main casting shadows and the other not..., really a very simple set-up...

Raytrace of depth map? If DM, switch to RT and see what you get.

Here's another render and specs

basicwiz posted Wed, 02 May 2012 at 7:26 PM

You have HDRI checked. Are your materials actually HDRI? What kind of shadows?

Here's another render HDR off

Reduce your Shadow Min Bias to 0.1 and rerender.  BTW: if you are not using SSS in your skin texture, turn it off in your render settings.  Also, your skin textures are glowing; check the MatRoom for any active ambient channels.

Thanks friend, will try those setings.

You are also not using Gamma correction...

Quote - BTW: if you are not using SSS in your skin texture, turn it off in your render settings.

Why? If you have no scattering materials that pass is not performed.

If, on the other hand, you habitually keep it turned off, and then you load a scatter material, and you forget to turn it back on, you will be sorry.

Turning it off when you need it on - bad news.

Turning it on when you do not need it on - no impact.

Your lights are behind the head - the eyes are not going to be lit well. What's the question exactly? Are you confused because the skin is lit, and the eyes are not? We can guess and guess till the cows come home, but I expect NOTHING on the front to be lit.

As hborre said, looks like the skin is glowing - self lit.

Do a render with all lights turned off. If you can see anything at all other than blackness, you have crappy shaders there.

The inside of the mouth and the teeth are lit, and that is impossible from your lights positions.

So as BB said, you have a skin shader problem.
probably some ambient crept in.

Go through your shader setup and remove all ambient there.

With the lights you are showing the mouth inside should be BLACK.

i think your eyes are the only ones having the right shader setup,
it is the rest of the face that has a problem, including the teeth and inner mouth..
