Still beating my head agains the desk on the Genesis figure that comes with DS4 Pro. I've worked through the tutorial a couple of times but still can't figure out how to use a 3rd party texture on a Genesis figure. Is there some mysterious add-on, setting, or something I need to know about? Having downloaded some free content for Genesis, I'd like to use the figure to see what all is going on there.

In your Studio 4 surfaces tab there is a tag where you can change the uv's for Genesis. Just mark every texture of your Genesis figure and change the uv's in that tab. It can use V4, M4, K4, V5 and if you've bought M5 it can use his textures aswwell. Not shure if that was what you asked, but hope that helps.

dyret has a good point. I've found a lot of the "genesis" skins out there are actually using the V4 texture mapping scheme, so when you initially apply the texture if it does not look correct(for example the lips are misplaced) it may be because of this.
When I use genesis I tend to do the textures via the smart content tab, some people hate smart content, but I do use it for genesis textures. I still select posing the old way, but thats largely because a lot of my poses are older files with no meta data.
You can still apply textures the old way too, just make sure they are installed in the right folder, I've found a lot of freebies with crazy folder structures.
Can I ask which one you are trying? And did the default textures load ok for you?

Could you be more specific about what you mean by "3rd party textures" (e.g. what product) and explain what is going wrong when you try to apply them? It really doesn't matter who makes the textures, by the way. I've never had a problem with applying textures to Genesis (apart from knowing you have to change the UV Set when appropriate). I'm sure your problem can be easily solved if we know exactly what it is. To be fair, Genesis was a complete mystery to me for quite a while, so I can understand you not being able to get your head around it!

Click Genesis under surface tab. Scroll down or up till you see UV set, click on it and choose whatever uv you're using. If its a v4 texture select v4. You will see the uv set being corrected.

Ok, here's where the collective knowledge base always helps the lost: To ME, UV means Ultra Violet as in light spectrum. I'm not sure what it means in this discussion, unfortunately.
Fyra: As an example, I am terribly fond of the IllusionsDesigns textures, but when I attempt to apply one to Genesis I get seam lines and off centerd image on the character.
I'll print this thread and try the other suggestions. Thanks, folks.

You can map a mesh in many different ways on any model, and if a texture was made for one map it won't fit properly in another. V4, M4, K4, M5, etc., all have different maps, so you have to tell DAZ which one to use.
In the attached image (click to enlarge), you can see that the texure doesn't fit the model. That's because it's an M4 texture and Genesis is set to V4 currently (which is the default for the Genesis base). You can see the dropdown list at the bottom, which is showing open. If I select Michael 4 from that list all the textures will magically fit. Note that I have all the parts on the left selected (just click Genesis at the top and they will all go yellow).

Wow...thanks! I never saw that setting before, and you can bet I'll be looking for it this afternoon when I get some time to putter at the 'puter.
