1.) Will all the morphs, textures, poses created for V4 and M4 work in the genesis figure?

2.) Will V4 and M4 clothes conform to Genesis?

Textures will work

Morphs will not work directly, but can be converted with GenX

Poses mostly work, with a few adjustments.  This script by DavidGB will correct most of the problems:  http://forumarchive.daz3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=177719

V4 and M4 clothes will conform to Genesis with Autofit (which is included with the free DS4Pro).  In DS4.0 autofitted clothes lose their pre-existing morphs; in DS4.5 autofit now transfers the morphs as well.

REALLY??!? Ive had DS 4.5 and had not bothered to look if morphs were transfered .. so used to them not

In the free DS4 pro, if you cancel the autofit dialogue and use the transfer utility instead, it retains the morphs.

I really cannot make up my mind as to whether to go the whole hog with DS4(pro) or go back to DS3, warts and all!

It might swing me more in favour of DS4 if I could be assured that DS4.5 autofit really does Transfer the Morphs and is not just an idle rumour. True, you can use the transfer utility but it is rather long winded. I managed to download DS4.5 (eventually!) but have been put off installing it, following some adverse reports from people who have.

Dynamic Clothing doesn't seem to work properly in DS4 either. If you want to see what I mean, try draping the Boy Friend Sweater from OptiTex (freebie, I think!).

Faces (expressions) in DS3 do not transfer to DS4. I've got rather a lot of these in my DS3 Content and there are very few available for DS4 Genesis specifically.

A moot point but, on the same principle that climbers explain their need to climb Everest - "because it's there", I am irritated by the loss of M4's bits when transferring from DS3 to DS4. I've actually managed to re-instate Jarryd and Kane with their bits using GenX but as a rather pointless exercise anyway - just a challenge!

I would be very interested as to peoples' views as to whether to use DS3 or DS4 because I am in danger of ending up using neither; Poser here I come?

  1. Yes, DS4.5 Autofit does transfer the morphs

  2. Expressions are figure-specific, like any morph.  If you want to use Gen 4 or Gen 3 expressions on Genesis, you need to transfer them with GenX like any morphs.

  3. You can use M4's bits on M4, or parent them to Genesis.

You don't have to use Genesis, you can use older content in DS4.

That's providing the older content is compatable with DS4.

Alternate Geometry still doesn't work, so that's quite a few figures that don't work, including mavka and my P6 figures.

I use 'skinsuits' for 2nd skins, they are a modified version of the figures own cr2 in which the head, hands & feet parts of the mesh have been "turned off", they work as intended in DS1,2 & 3 as well as P4, P6 & debut, but DS4 loads the entire mesh and then coughs up error messages because of the parts it shouldn't have loaded, so they don't work either.

Then there's the conformers with a multi part mesh, they work so long as any morphs are embedded in the cr2, but if they are in .PMD format then the morphs WILL explode, and there is at least one vender here who's products are like this.

So if you buy content from anywhere other than DAZ then don't be too surprised if it doesn't work in DS4.

Thank you for your comments, People.

I have taken the plunge and installed the latest 4.5 which went without a hitch! And it is true that in 4.5 Autofit does not destroy the Morphs anymore. Hurrah!

It is also true that you don't have to use Genesis and you can use older content in DS4 without bothering with Genesis.

Which really begs the question - what exactly is the point of Genesis? 😕

There's a way in studio that is not very difficult where you can transfer morphs in clothing and hair from gen4 stuff to genesis.  Thread is here; it's the second post down.
