well, if you want sell to a publisher, sending queries to literary agents in your genre is one way to start.  the reference section of your local bookstore should carry the Writer's Market and http://www.amazon.com/Guide-Literary-Agents-Chuck-Sambuchino/dp/1599632292

i don't usually buy these    i take them into the coffee area and jot down a few over latte.

on a side note, a legetimate agent will never ask you for money.

if you can't find someone to buy your manuscript, createspace.com is amazon's self publishing company.  they don't stock your book, they print it 'on-demand'.

on a side note, most bookstores won't buy print on demand books cuz of the no-returns policy.

I used to have a page that summed it all up but cannot find it.  Take all of this with about 10 grains of salt as I have not published :D

Are you talking Ebook or Physical or both?

Here are a couple of links.

Kim Kommando has a couple of brief items: http://www.komando.com/coolsites/index.aspx?id=9129 and http://www.komando.com/columns/index.aspx?id=11802&page=1 The latter has some links to some physical book publishers.  She links to http://www.epubbud.com/ which seems (not sure though just briefly looked) to sell inexpensive ISBN and publishes to the major ebook groups as well as sells directly, not sure if DRM unless you have it go through the major groups.

http://www.underwatersamurai.com/forget-kim-komando-heres-how-you-self-publish-in-2012/  someone who gives some marketting and other advice.

EPub Editor/Creator that is free http://code.google.com/p/sigil/

This is part of Amazons self-publish part.  Be careful which section you choose and how much you ask for the book.  They return up to 70% in the right price range, outside that range it drops to 30% This also has a link to an EPub Validator that makes sure nothing is going to cause hiccups.  https://kdp.amazon.com/self-publishing/help?topicId=A2GF0UFHIYG9VQ

When I finish my travel book (two chapters of which are posted in the Writers Gallery) I plan to publish it thru Amazon (as both a physical book and a kindle eBook).

I have recently published with Amazon Kindle.. while it is free to self-publish.. there are several things you should know.... Copyright.. you will have to copyright it yourself..over the net it's only $35... and virtually instant.

To publish with Kindle e-books.. you will probably run into something that I did... when you upload.. rarely, does it come out the way you expected.. the paragraph formatting, page breaks and chapter breaks.... you can pay to have this fixed.. find a friend who will work with HTML or do it yourself... which I actually recommend... IF you use something like Kompoozer... free, by the way... it gives you a WYSIWYG side-by-side of what you are doing... you will, of course, have to get the free kindle app and editor.. you get that from them, as well.. free. The Other option at Amazon takes a bit longer... you can opt for "hard copy" books... paperback or hardbound.. thing is.. there is a three-month lead time on those.. BUT... you CAN publish e-book Kindle.. THEN switch to a "dual" where SOME are being printed while the rest is being sold as e-books. I strongly recommend looking into your options LONG before you are ready to publish.. believe me.. it helps. Lou.

I self published a book through Lulu.com. I did it for free. Physical copies were available on demand on Amazon.com and Lulu.com. And Barnes and Noble offers a Nook version on their Web site.
