Is anyone else having trouble using the Target Weld tool. I'm having a hard time selecting the first point. Most of the time it won't select a vertex. Any Ideas? I'm using an old PC running Windows XP.

What version of Carrara are you running?

Hi Keithw,
There are no known issues with the C 8.1 and the Target Weld function. Can you upload screen grab of what your are trying to weld?
Just as a process check, all shapes need to be in the same vertex 'instance' meaning that if you have to different vertex objects when you look in your Scene Browser, they will not weld. Both shapes will need to be in the same vertex object.

I've been trying to target weld vertices on a sphere created in the vertex modeler. Some of the time I can select the vertex I want welded and sometimes I have to try 10, 20 times to select the first vertex. Once the first vertex is selected, I can usually select the second vertex. I thought that I might be doing something wrong during the selection process. I have no problems selecting vertices using other tools. I am using my old slow computer. It's a Pentium 4-2.8GHz with 1GB of memory.

Yep, you are bumping the minimum spec for the software. It is odd that other vertex tools work easily and the Target Weld has issues. I'm guessing it's graphic card related.
At any rate, here is the min. spec for 32bit Pentium rig (64bit has some major memory handling improvments if you need an excuse to get a new computer :-D )
32 bit

I ran into selection problems in Carrera 8 Pro, it became hit and miss, not just with target weld but all selections. Replaced my mouse and that solved the problem.
