....temporarily :)

Since people are already asking me where she went:  she's getting her second major update (GND 4.2) with a lot of new content, and will be back in the store on Friday. Shes basically being brought in line with my Alyson 2 characters.

If you already own her, the update is free - just redownload and reinstall.

cheers,

Will the update overwrite anything? I have unfinished projects using her, so I wouldn't want to load the scenes and be surprised by unforeseen changes to old files.

it overwrites everything.

new textures will give her a new skintone regardless of whether or not you load the new skin shaders, but this isnt a problem unless youre in the middle of doing something like a comic book and dont want her skintone to change halfway through :)

there will be a second INJ that injects new morphs, and a separate folder with the new shaders so that people with <Poser 9 or DS can continue using her as before.

still using her traditional rigging so that all clothing will remain 100% compatible.

I should have been more specific. What I meant to ask was, will it overwrite anything in such a way as to cause noticeable changes to an already existing PZ3 containing GND4?

If the skin texture is the only thing I'll notice, then I won't worry about it.

Thanks for the heads up. I look forward to the update.

I'm looking forward to getting this update. GND4 is one of the few things I bought over the years.

Did you remove the burned-in specular on the textures, especially the lip? It's one of my major rants.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

yes, all over the body and head, as well as balancing out all the textures to look better in all lighting. although ive left the lips since they render well with the new shader.

people need to remember that this character, as well as the PDF tutorial, was made back in 2007 -- over 5 years ago -- and a lot has changed since then.  this is the second major, free update.

yes, its a set of morphs for V4.

theres a lot of clothing either made specifically for her and/or including her morph (although vendors really need to start utilizing MP categories and keywords better), WW type apps can fit V4 clothes to her, and both lyrra and alizea released fitting magnets for her.

just keep in mind that the new morphs like preggo, breasttiny, breathe, etc have just been added so a lot of existing clothing will not have those morphs built-in.

i will be updating her bikini to fit the new FBMs and to add some more utility morphs and shaders, but not in the next week because i have some other deadlines to meet. the GND4 update was initially meant to just add a new SSS shader to her and go in under the radar but it snowballed into a major update  (thats the way these updates usually go).

im not sure if i will be issuing similar updates for my Gen II characters, but im thinking about it.  so much to do, so little time :(

Without reading anything I counted my coins and took her into the basket - to see that I stil own her...?! And my account told me that I get her as an update. VERY generous, thank you a lot!!

...as I like the "old" GND still: Am I able to use both faces, the previous one and the new or should I install the new version to a different location to be able to use both variations?

I'm not always right, but my mistakes are more interesting!

And I am not strange, I am Limited Edition!

youre welcome :P

all the old content is still there.

if youre referring to the very old GND 4.0 head, thats in there too - just be careful that you dont 'double up' on the morphs. to use that one you need to turn down the default GND4 head, so one of the head morphs should always be at 0 (or if you combine them, the sum of the morphs shouldnt exceed 1).

also, if at any time during posing you hit ZERO FIGURE, it will not zero the GND Body morph, but it will zero the head morph (back to default V4) - possibly because the latter is not an FBM, or doesnt use the PBMCC__ channels? im not sure, if anyone knows the solution to that ill add it to the list of features ill address in the next update (perhaps with some new lips that BB suggested), but its not a critical issue so i wont issue an update just for that.

cheers,
-Gabriel

Yes, those seem to work fine in DS4 (on V4 that is)

SaintFox posted Fri, 13 July 2012 at 4:49 PM

I still have the oldest head (as I like the grown-up ladylike look of it) and the second version. Both work fine - and so I want to make sure that I add the new face as a third option as to me the three look like sisters of different age and character. Good to hear that I can install them all without destroying one. And yes, using two of them together does bizarre things, I already did this by accident ;)

I'm not always right, but my mistakes are more interesting!

so i can put works in D|S (except for Poser 9 SSS shaders) - in the product requirements?

3doutlaw posted Fri, 13 July 2012 at 4:55 PM

I would say so, yes.  No problems.  You can also say the Refract glasses give you that cool 1980's shades effect, LOL!

Blackhearted posted Fri, 13 July 2012 at 5:02 PM

^yeah i wasnt expecting those to work at all, since theyre 100% opaque and rely on the refract node to look right. incidentally, in Poser if there is nothing behind the glasses (such as rendering a figure with no background), then the parts of the lens without the figure's face behind them will render black. the refract node needs something behind it to refract.

theres a second 'failsafe' pair of the glasses with standard transparency for the lens that should work in DS.

im sure both could be further tweaked, but im starting to find out that glass is the most frustrating thing to get to look right in Poser :P

what i did notice is that the eyelashes dont have gamma set to 1.0 -- so if you end up with sparse lashes while using gamma correction youll need to change the map in 6_Eyelash to use custom gamma value of 1.0. ill mark that for fixing in the next update.

toastie, are you saying YOU having nothing for those characters to wear, or attempting to make a statment that there is nothing in the market place for them? Right now I have 2 products in the market place that can be used with GND4 and up until a short while ago i hade a set in there for Irina that was even in clearence, admittedly it;s gone from the store now but I assume you didn;t just buy Irina.

I have no idea why you are attepting to say there are no clothing for these characters. There are even a good number of clothing fits for various items in FREESTUFF. Admittedly Anastasia has a bit of a space wardrobe right now, a lot of us are trying to fix that, but for myself, I want to produce the bast product posiible with my limited talent and time, and the art of learning to get the best out of the new weightmapping has taken more time to learn than I originally planned..

If this is just because you, yourself don;t have clothing in your runtime for the characters, or can;t afford to buy any of the large number of available commercial clothing items for them you should make that clear rather than give a false impression about the usability of these characters to others.

I routinely use the changegamma script to correct transparency and bump maps after loading everything, so perhaps a glitch changed the setting on the limb map to 1.0.  It was an easy enough fix.  I'll try it out later on a normal Vicky...

GND4, being more anatomically correct IMO, has some built-in fixes.  My experience is that, at the default values, the Perfect series does not go perfectly well with her in some poses, particularly around the knees (because GND knees are very nicely sculpted -- and the Perfect series is designed for V4's prematurely swollen and arthritic joints). You probably need to dial down the values.  If you're so inclined, you can then pull out the morph brush and touch up the few areas that remain.

ETA: I didn't realize Corvas had made a shoulder fix specifically for GND. I've been using his V4 one all this time. I actually haven't tested the Perfect shoulder fix on GND.

Laurie mentioned Morphing Clothes: It's well worth the money!! I use it all the time to fit clothes to custom body morphs (and there are sooo many custom tweaks and enhancements available in these days!) - and it is not limited to Victoria!

About your question: Right - you save GND to your character library, load her to mrohing clothes and click all her morphs in a list. Then save this to the presets so that you can choose the GND-morphs with one click next time. That's all.

I feel a little dense because I've actually never gotten an update for anything I've purchased from this store.  So I did go to the marketplace - find GND4 and went to add her to my cart because I assumed the update DL would come that way.  Then it tells me "tough cookies, you already own this" - yeah I know so give me the update.  Well it wouldn't.

So I went and searched through all my past orders (gosh I wish there was an easier way to do that) and found it.

I just re-downloaded the zips from there.  Is that the correct way to get the updated zips?

To check for updates:-

Select the Members tab, My Account option.

Now select Item list.

Click the downwards pointing triangle at the end of Sort by Vendor.

Move down the list until you see:-

Blackhearted

Select the Go button.

You will now see the items by Blackhearted that you have bought.

Look for the GND4 Athletic files.

At the end of the line, you should see a date on which they have been updated.

If you have downloaded before that date, then the new updated files are of use to you, so download and install.

All the best.

It is even easier: Go to your Account, click the Item list and click on "Updated?" - and everything is sorted from the most recent to the oldest Update. In case anyone is not sure how the magnets work versus an auto-clothes morpher, they work very well!  Takes a little more time (IMO) to get it right, but the results are worth it.  Both tools get the job done, and its a decision of the right tool for the right job.  For example, in that Lara render of mine, a few posts back, that was with Morphing Clothes, and in that render (angle), the leg bands look fine.

On the flip side, I just got the GND4 magnets, cause I was not happy with the results of the leg bands conversion overall (for future renders)...here is a pic of the bands fitted via Lyrra's Magnets on left (brown), versus MC on right (black).  Both are fitted well, but there is some distortion with the automated approach.  It's a trade-off I guess.

Thought it would be worth it to show it.

(and if you do get them, Ockhams Delete Magnets script is helpful  :)  )

Get a ticket to London, the first olympic athletes just arrived there. Look out for marathon runners, high jumpers and so on. When you watch the olympics on tv listen closely where the next door of a training center is and you will find them in large swarms! 😉*

About the strange look: I found that I get best result to let one eye point at a target and then adjust the other one by hand (by using the face camera with the same values as the one you want to use for the render). By adjusting the iris of the non-pointed eye to have the same space between the corner of the eye and the eyelids you get a pretty convincing look. As soon as the eye has a different shape as the standard V4 (especially asian shapes with the ethnic crease) the figure even can look cross eyed if nothing is wrong. The same happens in real life (Just google Lucy Liu to see what I mean - although I am not sure if she does not suffer from a real strabismus).

An exeption: If a person or figure looks on something that is very close (as more the more you lift the target above the head) anyone shows a slight strabismus.

Blackhearted posted Tue, 17 July 2012 at 3:28 PM

a quick and dirty method is to set the eyes to point at: main camera

then go to the individual eyes and set the point at value to ~0.7.  this slightly 'unfocuses' the eyes from the camera and takes away the crosseyedness, which allows you to render a bunch of images at roughly the same distance quickly without having to fuss with turning eye dials for every shot. i assume it would also work for animation as long as the distance from the camera were kept roughly consistent.

SaintFox posted Tue, 17 July 2012 at 3:35 PM

without experimenting, a would say this is excellent if the character is looking into the camera during animation. Sometimes they look away. "Pointing at" a primitive, and moving it right behind the camera when looking it, but then animating the primitive, might prove productive.

:: og ::

Blackhearted posted Tue, 17 July 2012 at 6:24 PM

^yeah you can do that as well although the primitive needs to either have a left and right eye focus object at about the same distance apart as the figure's eyes, OR, you need to move it really, really far away.

although TBH the 'slightly crosseyed focused on the camera' thing is actually accurate. take a photo of yourself with your camera at <8 feet or so, and youll be crosseyed if you look into the lens.

monkeycloud posted Wed, 18 July 2012 at 7:25 AM

I often now am tending to pose figure's eyes with a very slight squint and / or make one ear stick out a little more than the other, etc... just a notch.

Slight asymmetry on any smile / frown, expression morphs applied, etc... also good I think.

All forms of muscularly derived asymmetry I guess?

This is a great tip about pointing the eyes at stuff though, using "point at" setting. I had completely overlooked / wasn't really aware of this feature and have been doing it all in a laboriously manual way... I'll have to try it out.

Cheers 😉

LaurieA posted Wed, 18 July 2012 at 7:35 AM

Mankahoo's Angela and Ang2 figures have a dial called "focus" which is also really handy when the eyes are pointing at something and you don't want them to look crosseyed. I wish the Daz figures had it.

Gabe is right too...the farther away the object is you're pointing at, the better. If it's close you'll get the crosseyed look because people go crosseyed when looking at close objects...lol.

If you do not know what the fovea centralis is, please look it up first.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fovea_centralis

Now:

The fovea is off center by 4 to 8 degrees (varies from one individual to another, just like noses) towards the temple, away from the central optic axis. (The optic axis is a straight line through the middle of the lens.)

This means when we look at something, the eye is not pointed at that thing, but is in fact pointing away from it by 4 to 8 degrees, towards the outside. Looking at something at infinity, the eyes should diverge 4 to 8 degrees from where the head is pointing.

Assuming a 5 degree deviation (which I use with the BBEye), and assuming a typical separation between eyes of 3 inches, we can calculate the distance at which the eyes should be parallel if looking at some object.

1.5 / tan(5 degrees) = 17.14 inches

So - real people looking at something 17 inches from there eyes have their eyes exactly parallel. Only within 17 inches are the eyes "crossed".

Yes to the Chemise....though I will have to get some simple 3rd grade intelligence level tutorials to learn how to use dynamic clothes.....I went from P4 to P7 in one leap of faith and never even really learned all of P4  so needless to sa a bit behind the learning curve!  :(

I re-downloaded my version of her and wondered if Posermatics NGMs for the old version will work for this versionas well....though I have been using the basic V4 NGM's for all V4 based figures and characters including V4Girl and V4 Stephanie and even the Reworked K4 figures, without much of a hitch.....But just wondered if you knew.

Will this need the V4++ morphs included or will it work with the standard base V4?           (I don't remember if the original GND4 worked without all those morphs installed first).

Also hoping you will eventually create the Henna tattoos for her as you did for V3. THat was a great set. I purchased them as soon as i saw them in the store and had to convert them for use with V2 at the time because I wasn't able to use V3. But though useable with a bit of post work, they weren't so good converted. So hoping that originals for GND and/or V4 will someday be made available by you. Should I hold my BREFF!?  LOL

BTW  Thanks muchly for this. When I saw it advertised I was going to contact you to see if there was a free or cheaper upgrade cost for owners of the previous version but kept forgetting. Glad I stumbled on this thread.

Will you be announcing the availablilty of the bikini and her lingerie set here as well when done?

oh geez, so many questions :)
  1. ill be including some simple instructions with the chemise that you can follow step by step.its pretty easy

  1. posermatic has an NGM made specifically for GND4.   i also just added a range of breast morphs to her in the update that should work for everything but the 'mega' sizes past G :)

  1. no, none of my stuff ever needs any additional morph packs - just the BASE FIGURE.

  1. Rio made the henna pack, its unlikely youll see more of those from me. tattoos, yes - already working on some.

  1. youre very welcome.

  1. of course, although the bikini update is almost done (see attached pic). just ironing out the final morphs now, and then ill see if i can add any other features without breaking the rig.

the chemise should be done soon, but packaging and writing readmes is always a time-consuming PITA.  i just had an idea that while im making morphs for it i may as well morph it to Anastasia, Shae and GND2 as well - why the hell not, its dynamic and this is what dynamic is made for. so itll be awhile but i will get it done tonight.

cheers,

LOL

Well thanks 6 times over for answering them all!

Well judging from older threads and discussion I have been involved in with you in the past, or just read about you, got the impression you don't seem to get much sleep....if true...answering my stupid questions will give you a good reason to stay awake.....LONGER!   LOL

Yes, I have Posermatic's NGM for her  as well as V4, Girl and V3 & V2 and they do add an incredible amount of credible realism for the lovers of larger breasted female renders....but wanted to make sure they will also work for this update. You say you just added additional breast morphs so if I just re-downloaded from my account, I guess I will have to DL it again?

Since not sure how Dynamic cloth works from never having tried using it, will the bikini work with these NGM's applied too or would that just be for Super dynamic clothes?

Just took a slow hike through your store and saw the very nice Shae character. Wish I had P9 to use her and anastasia....both beautiful figures. DNA had it (P9) for sale for a song but I have had a hard enough time getting my dead head wrapped around P7, the idea of upgrading AGAIN gave me the Poser Shivers.

Love the hair you kindly packed with her. Been picking up a Runtime Folder full of Afro hair and doing more renders with beautiful black and other brown ethnic women and seeing her hair I had to ask if you would sell that at some time by itself? It's very nice and realistic.

Blackhearted posted Thu, 19 July 2012 at 7:24 PM

not sure, i recall posermatic had some morphs for the bikini to match his NGM morphs. if they are not in the store anymore try contacting him.

and no, good lord, i did not add more breast morphs since the 4.2 update:  i mean i added several with the update :)

im not sure how well the Shae hair would work in the OLD hair room, since there have been many improvements to it - especially with regards to speed.

i would highly recommend poser 9, to anyone:

"I have had a hard enough time getting my dead head wrapped around P7, the idea of upgrading AGAIN gave me the Poser Shivers."

if anything, Poser 9 is faster and easier to use than earlier versions of poser. and the SSS shaders are worth the price of admission alone, theyre the greatest thing to happen to the poser renderer since raytracing.  the interface is pretty much the same as Poser 7 so its not like youll be tacking anything new.

in other news, the GND2 morph is done for the chemise.

Updated the file, added more morphs for length, the BreastSize morph now works incrementally.

id appreciate if someone knowledgeable with the cloth room could help me iron out the best settings (if they dont have Anastasia i can send a copy). im having some strange behavior where when the chemise is morphed to Anastasia, it looks great DURING the simulation but after the simulation is finished, the item falls down about 2 feet in all frames - retroactively. its very strange. its not an issue due to collision since it is colliding properly during every frame of the calc, its just that at the end it just drops in all the frames.

when running a sim with GND4 it looks great - like the render pictured above. when running a sim with Anastasia it runs great and then drops at the end. any help is appreciated,

cheers,

-gabriel

Blackhearted posted Fri, 20 July 2012 at 11:31 AM

^like this.

keep in mind that it does NOT do this during the calculation. in fact if you look at the chemise you can see its not just crumpled into a pile but actually deformed properly, the problem seems to be that at the end of the simulation the entire thing squashes down.

im using the exact same settings i used with the GND version thayt resulted in the render above. theres no pokethrough in the base pose:  again, its NOT falling through during sim calculation - it looks great through every frame. but when it finishes the calc, boom, it drops down.

im tearing my hair out trying to figure out what it is. **

I'm willing to help with the Cloth Room stuff. Don't have Anastasia (yet), but if it's just cloth settings (and not trying to reproduce/solve the problem above), I can work with what I've got.

What kind of fabric are you trying to duplicate? Chiffon? Charmeuse?

Blackhearted posted Fri, 20 July 2012 at 12:22 PM

right now its just the fact that its dropping through the figure after the sim that im worried about. theres something strange going on that MAY have something to do with the fact that the BASE cloth object is made for GND4(V4), and the Anastasia fit is a morph on that base object (which moves the chemise down roughly the same amount the cloth room is dropping it after the sim). may be some wierd sortof bug.

im happy with the actual cloth properties, as you see in the GND4 image posted above it looks great like that.

sending you a PM, if you shoot me an email ill forward you Anastasia.

I found this happens when using the chamise on any of the figures but the base (GND4).

Everything works fine until after the final frame of the sim when the clothing object drops. However if you turn the FIT MORPH off in the CLOTHING, the clothing snaps back up to it;s proper place, while retaining the shape form the sim.

I guess you could avoid having to turn it off at the end by turning it off at the part in the sim where you apply a poser. So, for instance, if I was running at 175 frame sim and I put the pose in at frame 75 I'd turn the morph off at either frame 75 or at the last frame. Haven't tried that to see if it works tho, although I don't know why it shouldn't.

Hana-Hanabi posted Fri, 20 July 2012 at 2:38 PM

I am too slow, heh.

The morph only needs to be active on frame 1 of the sim before it's started. You can dail it back to 0 sometime in the simulation, and it works just fine, or you can go in and dail it back after the simulation ends. Either works just fine.

Tips for the Cloth Room:

You can make more than one Dynamic Group. By making a second one and adding the straps to it, you can give it completely different cloth parameters than the body. (If you wanted the main cloth area to be stretchy or floaty, but the straps to have different properties, you can do that!)

I like to bump up the Collision Offset to be larger than the Collision Depth. An additional 0.1 is good in this case.

I'm going to do some sims with different cloth paramaters and post them.

For silk (which I suspect is what most people will want to approximate with this garment), you want to keep a fairly high shear resistance. Silk is a very long-staple fiber, and the threads spun from it tend to be strong and very lustrous. Dupioni, shantung, tussah, and especially noil are all shorter silks, but because of the shorter staple, the yarns (and thus fabrics) are usually thicker, negating the effect of the loss of strength in the fiber. The shear resistance doesn't have to be cranked quite so high as I have it, but  you want to be careful going very low with it.

operaguy posted Fri, 20 July 2012 at 10:11 PM

what does "shear resistance" actually mean? I thought it meant resistance to tearing.I usually set it to 500.

Zaarin posted Fri, 20 July 2012 at 10:12 PM

Thanks for all that great info, Hana-Hanabi. You should create a thread with settings for non-silk fabrics--you seem to have a great knowledge of cloth, and getting the right drape settings can sometimes be trying. :)

Hana-Hanabi posted Fri, 20 July 2012 at 11:31 PM

Shear resistance is hard to explain. Shearing is different from folding, but similar. Smith Micro defines it as "how much the cloth tends to retain its shape as it folds." I think of it as more the resistance to buckling or crinkling.

The picture above is all the base settings that come with the chemise, save for the Shear Resistance, which I have set to 1. It surprisingly doesn't look all that bad, but when you compare it to the base settings above, you can see that the folds are less defined...they start to buckle and crumple in places.

Zaarin, I might do that one of these days...I spin, knit, and sew IRL, so I kind of soak up fiber knowledge, ehehehe. I'll have to do lots of tests with parameter combinations, though. All scientific-like. ^_~

After years of using Poser I am still having problems trying to figure out magnets or adding a second Runtime Folder without garnering the ire of some frustrated otherwise helpful folks in the community, never mind learning the cloth room. Now having recently migrated from Poser4 to Poser 7 the idea of getting through this cloth dynamics makes me break out in a cold sweat.   I am going to have to mark this thread as urgent and output it as a pdf file to print later for reference if and when I do try learning it  You made it sound this aspect of it easy. :(

Blackhearted posted Sat, 21 July 2012 at 5:59 PM

very cool -- thank you so much Hana.  i learned a lot about cloth :)

for the cloth room savvy, youll notice that the nipples are a constrained group. this is the best way ive found to hold the cloth in place on the breasts and eliminate the 'breats bags' underneath them without having to bump up the elasticity and thus 'iron out' the wrinkles. the downside is in some extreme sims you may get some wrinkling around the nipples: this is easily fixed by using the morphing tool set to smooth (use a high number like 3.0 or 4.0).

btw - those of you using gamma correction are going to have to tweak the transparency settings of the chemise.

cheers,
