Subject: Lost files

Paula Sanders ( ) posted Sun, 22 July 2012 at 9:25 PM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 11:03 AM

I have a number of zip files for Michael 3, for example, of clothes. I installed them manually making sure they went in the correct folders in the string ending in my library on (user/name.....) None of these files show anywhere in DAZ Studio 4. I am also categorizing my files so I did a scan to see if they were there. The scan found a number of files under the pose category, but no clothes files. Almost all of them are missing. I can do a search in windows and it shows they are on the hard drive. Thanks

What's the full path to one of the missing files, and where are you looking for them inside DS4?

You have helped me before and I appreciate it. I will use this as an example. I checked the readme and product list for M3 Casual Wear. I had all of them in the correct places in the runtime. I, then went amd did a search under M3 and, of course a lot of stuff showed including some clothes. I had to compare the clothes to the list to see what files they came from. In other word, nothing was grouped and I could only search for them under M3 or the specific name of the garment from the product list. Is this normal? It seems I might have to do this on a lot of things.

Thanks for your speedy reply.

You haven't answered the question yet, remember we are not mind readers.

"What's the full path to one of the missing files, and where are you looking for them inside DS4?"

Are you looking in the Smart Content tab or the Content Library tab?  What is the exact name of the product?  Where does the readme indicate the clothes can be found?

I have problems with nested runtimes.  I'll try to get a screen print to put up so everyone can see what I'm talking about.  I have no problems finding the nested runtimes using Poser but DAZ4 just doesn't want to talk about them.

I am mainly searching the Content Library, but I also search Smart Stuff although I don't rely on it. Since I am trying to categorize everything, I am mainly using the content library. What I have discovered is groups of clothes, ie, BasicWear for V4 will not show up. So I have to seaech for the individual components to find the cr2 files.  Sometimes it is easier than others. When I scanned my drive for content, a lot of MAT files came up as a unit. But the files hadn't shown up in any logical order for them to modify.

These were initially all straight installs User/name/Daz/studio/My Library either through the EXE installs or through placing the extracted zips in the correct places.

It sounds like you can find some of your content by entering things into the search tab in the Content Library tab, so I'm assuming you have mapped the runtime location properly and DAZ Studio has found the content.

At least for some content, you can find newly installed uncategorized content within various subcategories under Categories > Default > Unassigned.    Everything from multiple products gets jammed together, and for that reason I always install and categorize only one product at a time to make it easy to know what's what.

For example, I just installed the Dystopian Weapons Cache 1.  Now in Categories > Default > Unassigned, I see folders like the following, each with a bunch of layers of subfolders:

Character

Materials

Pose

Props

Naming is a bit cryptic, but you might already know where to go from here.  All the subfolders are named after whatever the content creater wanted.  At the bottom levels of the Character folder I can find my .cr2 files, and at the end of the Props folder chain I find my pp2 files.  These are all the parts of the product.  Then buried in the Pose folder I can find the poser-based materials, and in the Materials folder I can find the DAZ Studio-based materials, etc.
