Subject: Celebrity likenesses for Gen4 or Genesis - post 'em here

JQP posted Thu, 16 August 2012 at 4:35 PM

I ran a search and didn't find any threads about likenesses so I figured I should start one.  I have a small list of my own but I'm on the way out the door so I don't have time to post it ATM.  I'll put all of them in the thread when I get back tonight, or maybe tomorrow since I do have some work to do when I get back.

I guess Gen3 likenesses wouldn't be a problem, as long as they're solid likenesses - no stretching or squinting allowed!  :)

JQP posted Fri, 17 August 2012 at 4:04 PM

First I'll post the old list from the DAZ forum archives.  I pruned one name (Patrick Stewart) because there was no link associated in the original.  I have not validated any of these links or their associated products so YMMV.  I have cleaned up the code a bit but my HTML is rusty (and was never that great to begin with); I've done the best I could to work with the crappy forum code (it likes to add and remove code at its own whim):

JQP posted Fri, 17 August 2012 at 5:03 PM

I found two DAZ threads in the new forum:

Celebrity Look-a-Likes for 3D figures
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewthread/4819/

3D Celebrity Portraits
http://www.daz3d.com/forums/viewthread/2721/#34810

What's really funny about this to me is in a thread, back before DAZ nuked their own forum like geniuses ("Hey, since we're never going to release documentation for DAZ Studio, I figured we should double down and nuke our own forum, too!" "Great idea Bob, let's do it!  USA!  USA!  USA!"), I told all the people showing off their likeness morphs and not sharing them that they were being selfish.  They responded to me with legalese about liability concerns.  What a load of garbage, lol.  DAZ and Rendo can sell tons of "wink-wink" likenesses for profit without getting sued, but giving away freebies will put blood in the water and bring all the Hollywood sharks?  Gimme a break.  This is aside from the warehouse worth of products (clothes, scenes, vehicles, weapons, etc.) that rip off designs from movies, comics, paintings, illustrations, etc.  Just admit you're stingy already, guys.  The sun will still come up tomorrow, I promise.

The funny part is how none of the self-deceiving faux lawyers had word one to say about any of the commercial likenesses.  They forget all about the arguments as soon as they're done fig-leafing their own stinginess.

JQP posted Fri, 17 August 2012 at 5:21 PM

Now some new ones (and some old ones not on the list above):

I post URIs and not hotlinks because they're harder for idiot webmasters to destroy, and they're easier for me to post.  If I didn't post a URI, that's because it wasn't easy to find one with Google.  I run a few searches and if I don't get satisfaction I move on.  Vendors can make products easier to find if they wish.  If it's a freebie I mark it as such, otherwise it's a commercial product.

Big thanks to the blog author, he's provided a very nice directory of available likenesses with reasonably-sized thumbnails to boot!  Double-thumbs-up big thanks!

JQP posted Fri, 17 August 2012 at 5:34 PM

Sorry about that.  If you mean from the first post, they may be dead because I didn't check any of the links.  If you mean the one where I post my "own," new stuff, then I don't know what could cause that because they're only a few minutes old.

The primary purpose of the thread is not to provide links, but just to let people know the likenesses exist at all.

Of course it's illegal to profit from a celebrity likeness without permission, but if you change a letter or two maybe no one will notice. Or maybe they do have permission. It could happen. Right...?

If we're not careful Megan Fox is going to rival Jessica Alba and Angelina Jolie as one of the most over-exposed celebs in the Poserverse:

Megan for DAZ V4 by CS (Freebie) http://www.sharecg.com/v/46423/View/11/Poser/Megan-for-DAZ-V4

I haven't loaded any of them up yet but the promo pics for Edson's offerings look great.  Note that I could only find the links for the first two by doing a site search from Google; the ShareCG search wouldn't bring them up.

My requests are (in no particular order) Lindsay Lohan, Mila Kunis, 90's Vanessa Williams, Moon Bloodgood, 90's Winona Ryder, Elisha Cuthbert, Ashley Judd (a good one - I see lots of suggestions but none of them are good likenesses IMO), Sharon Stone, Michelle Pfeiffer in her prime (the V3 Cat Knights is a good likeness but V3's a little long in the tooth), 90's Alicia Silverstone, 90's Demi Moore, Thandie Newton, 90's Kim Basinger, Madeline Stowe, Charlize Theron.  Can you tell I don't watch many movies any more?  :)  For guys, I'd like to see Robert Redford, Steve McQueen, Liam Neeson, hmm, haven't really put much thought into the guys lol.

I could keep naming girls all day though.  The whole list of Bond girls for starters.  :)

Personally, in principle, I'd rather move to using newer, weight mapped figures, on whatever fronts are most accessible to me as a Poser user.

Reckon, in the shorter term I'll be seeing what I can do with Miki4, the Face Room, and ZBrush.

I like Miki. I hope to see her potential explored more thoroughly this version of her 😉

If the developer of GenX ever gets around to supporting Gen3 figures, a good amount of my old Gen3 content could be new again. I didn't even realize it didn't support them until I tried to get my Michelle Pfeiffer (Cat Knights) likeness working with Genesis. I wouldn't mind getting Raven Knights and Voyager Knights working, too.

I composed a Tom Baker (4th Doctor) face pose file which I should get around to uploading.  The only caveat, uses Michael 3's standard morphs along with Beth Capsces' "Brom" morph package.

The zip contains 4 face pose files, a neutral expression, a closed lipped smile, an open lipped smile and the iconic Tom Baker manic grin (displayed here).

The hair used is Ali's HR-018 which is no longer listed in his store, but you might want to try contacting him via PM or e-mail and arrange a deal.

Sincerely,

Nice work Bill 👍

I'm too much of a Poser newcomer to own M3 currently... but I've thought about it, due to the wealth of content still in circulation for M3.

Currently, I thought I may wait to see what happens with "Genesis for Poser", and if that situation improves I could get the M3 shapes for Gen5 instead. Anyway... I digress, nice Tom Baker morph!

I have recently been contemplating trying to morph Miki4 into a Karen Gillan / Amy character myself. I think with some scaling as well, certainly, it might work quite well... still practising more basic sculpting / modelling though at present...

I only just discovered Ali's hair. I'd previously thought of trying Neftis' curly hair for Tom, if I got hold of, or even ever managed to make, a face morph. I'll certainly look out for you uploading yours now.

Cheers 😄

The Green Hornet's car directly behind the Monkey Mobile?

Monkeys, Green Hornet (Black Beauty) and the General Lee were all cars built by George Barris. Not sure about Ghost Busters. But that could be behind the Ghot Busters Car the Munsters car which was another Barris built car. In a previous life I was a gear head.

Ah, that makes sense... presumably Barris' collection, before he sold the MonkeeMobile?

There was Aurelie Pettite here in the RMP, but it's discontinued...

There is a free one over at ShareCG...

What a pity she's not available any more! She's very pretty; the best Audrey Hepburn likeness I've seen. :(

So who is "Madam" supposed to be?

And who is the new, "Temptress"?

Temptress is Eva Mendes. Madam should be Talia Shire.

smallspace posted Sun, 14 October 2012 at 1:52 AM

Eva Mendes I can see, but I would never have guessed Talia Shire was MADAM.

MargyThunderstorm posted Sun, 14 October 2012 at 2:16 AM

Was just a guess with Madam. I'm not really sure. I thought it's the counterpart of Rocky and she has really similar hair as Talia Shire in Rocky. ^^

Lyoness posted Sun, 14 October 2012 at 3:36 AM

I heard in some forums that Madam was a russian actress... although I never got a confirmation. I would really like to know who that is!!

I'm not seeing Talia Shire at all in that one.  Sorry Margy.

The linked thread suggests that Madam is Heidi Fleiss.

A real good possibility. However, now that you mention it, to me it looks more like Jamie-Lynn Sigler "playing" Heidi Fleiss!

The hair has to be part of the identity or it wouldn't have been included.  So, what does a crown braid have to do with this character??

Ridley5 posted Sun, 14 October 2012 at 7:03 AM

Madam is not Talia Shire or Heidi Fleiss. The character is based on the Russian celebutante and model "Madam Olga".  I asked Odnajdy about this when Madam was first released.

His celebrity morphs are some of the most amazing that I have ever seen. The Will Smith and Wesley Snipes morphs are absolutely stunning.

Hmm, I thought that "MRL Riley" character made by Mihrelle resembled (a bit) like Tricia Helfer, who played Number Six in Battlestar Galactica?

Reviving an old thread here to see if anyone knows who odnajdy’s new character, “Fun-Loving Stranger” is supposed to be?

She's not based on anyone famous. Also, it looks like she may be his last product here :( Hopefully that just means he's switching stores. He makes excellent products.

Ok...thought it must be someone famous, given odnajdy's history of celebrity look-a-likes.

I know odnajdy got in legal trouble with the "Red" character. Now I look at my purchase downloads and see that all the odnajdy celebrity packages I purchased were just all updated April 22nd. I haven't downloaded any of the updates yet, so I'm wondering why so many packages would need to be updated at the same time. I've come up with 2 possibilities:

  1. They're all being updated for some compatibility issue the latest version of Poser or DAZ Studio.

  2. The morphs in each package have been altered to make them look a little less like the celebrities, and therefore avoid legal problems.

I don't think it likely they had to be updated because of errors or problems with the packages, I mean, if that were so, how likely is it that all those different packages would need to be updated at the same time.

All the morphs have been altered, so if you have the original morphs I suggest you store them somewhere safe and don't use them in any commercial renders.

I've done a reasonably good Tim Roth morph (If I may say so *L*) and I'll gladly share it. I just need to find the best way since it's a mix of morphing brush morphs and the Morphs++. Do people still use RTEncoder? I've been away for so long it's not even funny *L*

I looked through this and may have missed it, but.. has anyone done Kelli Williams? (Lie To Me, Army Wives ect...)

Hi TrekkieGrrrl!

If it's a custom morph, I'd save the morphs as a pmd file. Just make sure you haven't used any commercial morphs along with it.

Thing is: I have. It's for a large part the Morps++-morphs. That's why it need to be encoded somehow :)

Can you not just make ++ morphs a verbally stated prerequisite... same as many marketplace products etc?

The pose file would just set the values on the ++ morph channels, that the end-user already has installed to M4?

Your custom sculpt would just be added as a new morph, on top of that, then, on a separate channel?

What was your workflow to get the custom sculpt / what did you use for it? Is the problem that ++ morphs are frozen into your custom morph... like a mixdown into one channel?
