Subject: Am I Blue?...Tint from SSS where body parts touch.

I thought SR 3 fixed the "bluish" tint you get in skin due to SSS by introducing "scatter group" numbers. To fix the blue around the mouth, you set the face to one group number and the parts inside the mouth to another. This seemed to work, but I've noticed something strange. When the arm, for example, touches the chest, you get a strange blue hue to the skin in the crease as I show here in the figure (sorry it's not a better render). It's subtle, but I'm pretty sure it's there. I fixed this in the second image by setting the arm and chest to different scatter groups. Simple enough, but when the hands clasp like to pray, I see this effect too, or if the legs cross one another. For V4, both hands share the same material definition so they can't have different scatter group numbers. You would have to have the option of RHS and LHS materials.

Has anyone else noticed this? Maybe I'm just late to the dance, but I don't think I've seen a fix for this posted here.

Thanks

I notice it on the elbow, where the bent forearm meets the upper arm, and also the hands.

If you use EZSkin, checking BB Max Scatter Trick helps to reduce this -- the settings can be adjusted as needed.

If you don't use EZSkin, it's highly, highly recommended.

That's a good tip Moriador. Also if you don't have the latest build-you might not have the BB Max Scatter option. SnarlyGribbly put it back in due to requests.

This issue has been reported to me by several EZSkin users, most commonly because of blue ears!

And yes, this is why the Max Scatter Trick (invented by Bagginsbill) was reinstated in the latest builds.

I noticed it on a render I did yesterday, where fingertips were touching the chest

I have the latest version of your EZSKIN, and I was wondering why you had put that trick back in there. I'll give it a shot, so thanks again for your code.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
