Okay Brycers here we go...

I'll be dumping a lot of links in this thread for you all to download some of my old Bryce Scenefiles. I'll be adding new files, every week. I'm still going through all my files to see what might be interesting to anyone but as of right now, I have 750Mb worth of my Scenefiles set aside for this thread (and I'm sure I'll end up including more than that).

And, then on top of that...also posted in here will be the entire collection of Bryce Content I created for all of my "Bryce Q&A" articles that I wrote for 3D World Magazine in 2005-2007, which is around another 400Mb.

Keep checking back and keep on Brycing!

Btw, you can all thank Fran for kicking me into gear for starting this, as she emailed me wanting a couple of these scenefiles which got me thinking..."I wonder of it's possible to crash my website host's servers?"

Well, we might find out eventually but for right now we'll start out small and simple with the Scenefiles Fran was wondering about...

This one (like MANY Scenefiles you will see in here) was just a quick experiment. Image textures all around in this scene on a zbrush created...whatever it is. Originally made in Oct. 2005 but the download will be a .br7 scenefile as I replaced the insanely high poly mesh with an optimized clone for a much smaller download.

This .br5 scenefile  comes straight out of my gallery, [**here**](http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=751100) (Aug. 2004). Just an abstract experiment in booleaning primitives.

It's using a fake hdri setup to create those reflections. (which is a setup I made/used in Bryce before we had hdri abilities) All it is, is a giant sphere encompassing the whole scene with a photograph on it, thus everything in the scene that is reflective/transparent benefits from the photo.

AgentSmith posted Wed, 19 September 2012 at 4:37 PM

This one was modeled entirely in Bryce with around 80 booleaned primitives.

There should be an image texture applied to the handle to give it that look of a metal "knurled" grip. The scenefile is in the original .br5 version (Jan 2006) and seems to load and render fine in all versions (5.x-7.x).

This was my attempt at making a sci-fi-looking handlight that could be used as an old flaming torch might. (As you muck about in caves looking for alien monsters).

Download

P.S.; The fully textured version of this...is coming next. (and yes, it lights up like a flourescent tube)

Lol, I can do far more damage...er, I mean "good" if I'm not President. ;o)

There will be more textures, also. Obviosuly, pretty much all the Scenefiles have textures in them already (Image and/or DTE) but I have some scenes that are just textures. Some of those Materials have been made available in the past years but a lot have not.

I would also like to load up all my old backup .mat files and get them organized and available as downloads but I will adnmit that part...is going to take quite a while, lol. (they are by far, my most disorganized files of all)

Thanks everyone!
Enjoy (and there is more coming!)

AgentSmith posted Mon, 24 September 2012 at 3:55 PM

Nah, no secrets to sorting files out in the Bryce Libraries. I know it will just be that old ritual of;

Open Mat Preset, select which Mats I want, export them out, then re-import them back into a new Preset.

Meaning (in case no one reading this has ever tried this yet)...I can open one of my giant "dump" Mat presets libraries. I hold down Ctrl and then individually click each of my say, glass mats out from the rest. I Export those as a Mat file somewhere onto my harddrive and then re-import that same file into a new empty preset library, prefererably one I have named "Glass", lol.

Which btw, is exactly what I shoud have done as I was creating those Mats (years ago) but ya know, things get crazy when in the heat of Brycing. ;o)

Bobbystahr,

Yes exactly - It's like learning while gathering sweeties, every lick a lesson!

AS, I didn't realise you could save just some of the mats from a mass of them like that. I've been popping the mats onto spheres then resaving the mats into an empty preset.

Does that work with objects too?

And what did you actually do to create the new bump map?  I really want to know that.

When they stole my computers they also took a small box of install discs, Win2000, Acrobat 5 and my Photoshop...no proof it was stolen so Adobe won't replace it...told me to get it from my insurance...but that stuff wasn't on the policy.

Depends on what you want to accomplish, Rosie. If you want to try your hand at digital painting with traditional media look and feel, like oils, acrylics, etc. then Painter is a good software for that. Photoshop has great tools designed for postwork, filtering, photo-manipulation, etc. All these imaging programs have  some things they excel at. It's kinda like asking which tool is better, a hammer or a screwdriver...do you want to drive a nail or insert a screw?

Well, as far as FREEWARE goes, I think the winner is still Gimp.

I REALLY like how Paint.Net is just simple and straightforward but in trying it out just a couple days ago I discovered it cannot save selections which is a huge neccessity.

I myself have always used Photoshop and nothing beats it but in trying to describe how I do something with Bryce and Photoshop, a lot of people just turn off when they read Photoshop because most people don't have that piece of $1,000 software, so they don't even bother with the tutorial at all.

So, Gimp it is.

Oh no!  I can't use GIMP.  I know it's free, and I've tried and tried. I heard you were supposed to be able to get it to look and work like PhotoShop - but it's nothing at all like PhotoShop, it's so alien I just can't use it.

I worked in PhotoShop at College and after that at Uni, and through Uni I managed to get an education version of CS4.

So I'm now stuck with that as I can't afford to upgrade to whatever the CS is now and I can't get used to GIMP.

This is dire!  And I was so looking forward to the tut...

It's also why I never jumped on the Vue train as cool a program as it is....too freakin much moolaa that I ain't got.

What I am going to do is to post a hopefully short and sweet "how to" on how I did that bump map. I say hopefully, because I have a tendency to go on and on...and on, lol (and make anything sound complicated). BUT, what I hope will make it more clear is I will re-create the entire bump ritual in Gimp and upload the Gimp file with all its layers, so you can all open it and tear it apart and hopefully say "ah..okay, I get it".

It's actually quite simple with just four layers and is all done with selctions and a mouse. Very basic.

Btw..Corel Painter; It's sorta like Photoshop in the way that creating something that looks like its been done with Traditional media (real paintbrushes on real canvas, etc), nothing is better than Painter.

BUT...the drawbacks with Painter is that it is very expensive and to really master custom brushes, its a very steep learning curve (but it does have some very nice "out of the box" brushes)

Imo...the best and least expensive (retail) alternative to Painter is "Artrage". It's less complex and still can do a great job of traditional media simulation. And, it only costs $60 USD compared to Painters $350 USD.

I got Bryce and Poser free off a magazine, tried both and decided that even though the controls looked the same, Bryce was easier to use - so much so that I got hooked by it, and ended up buying the upgrade the first chance I got.

I think that was either Bryce 3 or 4 and Poser was 3 I think... but I can't really remember.

AS... Artrage?  that's just under £40.00... hmmmm I've always wanted Painter - had an old freebie disc with Painter Classic that they wouldn't let me install cos I didn't have the magazine here with the serial number in it - It's probably at home buried somewhere in the Summerhouse.  It's well out of date anyway, Artrage might be the solution.  I might be able to afford that soon.  If our house move doesn't swallow everything.

What is the latest GIMP now?  I have 2.6 - if there's a newer one more like PhotoShop now, I'd go get it.

I bought Bryce and Poser at the same time when they were both at MetaCreations (hence the similarity of the UI). If I recall correctly (and what are the chances of that), they were at Bryce3D ("It Moves!") and Poser4. The pair cost me about $99 US, I was getting a break on the pair. For me it turned out to be money well spent. Then MetaCreations blew up and the pieces scattered all over.

As, I'm still waiting on that BIG scene file from you...when you decide to share it then i'll be happy...

You know which one...the one that i want to do but could never get things right in it ;)

Oh hi all, i'm around on here but due to pain meds i don't get to say much other than a quick post now and then.

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

Hi CD, I love your avatar, especially the expression.  That cup'll have the meds in it then.

Hi Fran, hes my early morning avatar with his coffee :)

Oh?  I thought that that steam was a miasma rising from the decoction of drugs you're taking at the moment.  I looked at his dour expression, and I thought for sure that was you!  Lol.  It's that slightly dopey, 'what's gonna hit me next?'  expression that does it.

Good avatar by the way, how did you make him?

Okay, sorry for the delay and also sorry, you're gonna have to wait a little longer for that Gimp/Bump/Terrain tutotrial. Time is just not on my side at all these days. But, let me try and play some catchup here...

Here is the flooring from the last download on page 1 but this floor is made from a Terrain that was created to fit the existing image texture. It is seamless/tile-able. Bryce 7 scenefile (re-worked recently).

These are all booleaned Metaballs, the mat's used are Adamite's, the blue one being customized but still uses the original bump. Bryce 6 scenefile (Dec 2009)

This was to simulate a glazed/fired piece of pottery. It is actually two Terrains sandwiched together, one carries the reflective inner material and the other, the outer painted material. The scene uses an HDRI and from what I remember is not a fast rendering scene. Bryce 7 scenefile (August 2010)

I believe this was just a basic scene I used for some of my Bryce 6 beta-testing. The green tiles are image textures laid atop Terrains that were custom made to fit. Scene uses an HDRI. Bryce 6 scenefile (Nov. 2006)

Enjoy!

P.S.; I will get back to that Gimp/Bump/Terrain Tutorial and get it up here for you all!

This was me messing around with trying to create a brushed steel material without complex shaders. This uses just a image texture to produce a finer brushed bump and blurry reflections are turned on to finish the effect. Quality mode has been tuned to "Premium" at 64RPP, so this will be a slow rendering scene.

The object is made up of Bryce booleaned primitives.

This is the scenefile for my gallery image "Spheres Cubed". View [**HERE**](http://www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php?image_id=1089416). Just spheres and various mats.

The wirecage was created with [**KnotPlot**](http://www.knotplot.com) (which was freeware at the time). I did a number of versions of this scene and this was the final one, which includes a custom Terrain to fit the brick image ground texture.

Used this to test out the freeware program "Ivy Generator" at the time it had came out. Seamless grass image texture for the ground. Uses an HDRI, turn it off to have it render much faster.

In the original Bryce 6 scenefile (March 2007).

This is made out of two Terrains booleaned into one another to form a glass...watchamacallit. Seamless wood image texture for the floor.

Bryce 5 Scenefile (Sept. 2005).

*NOTICE - While this also renders in Bryce 6 & 7, the lighting/atmosphere will be somewhat different looking.

AgentSmith posted Thu, 29 November 2012 at 2:28 AM

This is a mesh I created with the freeware modeling program "TopMod". From what I remember this mesh is fairly high poly and a VERY slow render. Seamless wood image texture for the floor.

Bryce 6 Scenefile (March 2007).

*NOTICE - While this also renders in Bryce 7, the glass material will look quite different, this is because of some program change that was made between versions. For Bryce 7 users, I suggest (Inside Render Options) to try changing your Maximum Ray Depth to 12 and your Maximum TIR Depth to 12 to get your results close to what you see here.

Enjoy!
