Worked out and looks like the CP web site is getting hammered with people getting Tyler and Miki. Best of luck to the crew maintaining the CP web site.

Admittedly Miki is looking like taking a while, even over broadband... but not near as bad as an upgrade to OS X Lion plus XCode... he he. Once you've been through that download pain, 300 MB is nothing.
Can't wait to try them out later

No probs, different people will render with different lights etc. The more renders the better to give people an idea of the new characters.
Just waiting for other items of clothing etc. to appear. As usual, Tyler is a bit short on clothing at the moment.
At least ther eis a Mik4 clothing pack out at the momnet, and no doubt once RDNA know that they are out, the ywill show their new items as well.
Miki 4 comes with a dev rig, so I'm assuming that we either have to make our own (no probs for me) or use a previous Ryan one?

In my opionion, for launch clothing those are not impressive. Cheap looking textures and cheaply made. Not impressed at all. I have seen much better jeans and underwear here at rendorosity made with more effort. Plus the poly work on the edges are jagged with no texture seams and they are way to thick. Its supposed to be fabric thin. Jeez, these are supposed to be launch clothing for a new figure and help sell it.
toastie posted Tue, 25 September 2012 at 8:59 AM
Not sure about the clothing pack. The dress and stuff might be useful, but I don't need the jeans etc. The textures on the jeans don't look good, but I always retexture everything anyway. Might save my money there and wait and see what else comes out for Miki.
Anyone got the Clothing Pack? What do you think of it?

Looking forward to it. Did Deecey write her up?
Miki4's "User Guide" (I prefer the term "dossier", for that covert espionage agent effect) runs to 44 pages apparently... wow!

Yes Deecey wrote both the Miki 4 and TylerGND manuals. I don't know what we would do without her.
Also - she created that really cool Frills and Lace outfit for Miki 4 that looks gorgeous. Teyon and Darrell also did double duty (along with rigging/modeling/morphing) building a set of Sleepwear and Basics for Miki 4.

First, allow me to say he is a typical Blackhearted product. Now, if you've ever bought a BH product, you'll know that "typical" is a very good thing. The attention to detail is certainly there, and there are tons of built-in options!
Yes. He looks like Brad Pitt. However, last time I checked box-office receipts, I'm not sure that is a bad thing. That aside, he is very easy to make changes to. The above post is my first attempt at making a different character, and I must say the otpions are many and easy to use. The dials are a bit sensitive for my taste, but I can fix that by changing the sensitivities. (Any python guru got/will make a script to change them all at one time?) The point is, they WORK.
As to the body, I'm not all that wild about his native tummy, but it took me about one minute to make that as fit as the rest of him. Again, the built-in morphs are beautiful.
His little boy part has the same level of detail, changability, and is easy to pose. The Poser ladies are going to be SO pleased.
Like any character, he benefits from a trip through EZSkin. That is how I darkened his complexion for the renders I've made so far.
In short, a very nice piece of work IMHO. Your milage may vary. As for me, I think he would have been a real bargain had I had to pay for him. Kudos to BH for making him and SM for offering him for free to the community.

Black women for example give mr Pitt very high marks as do they give Sean Connery and even ben Affleck

The Alex head morph is a big improvement, especially given that Ryan2 looks like a space alien. Making that look human is a huge accomplishment all by itself.
But I'd welcome any additional head morphs that anyone might care to create and release.
That, or a tutorial for the face room. Having tried it, I was not impressed. There just don't seem to be very many options. Only 3 for the lips, for instance. Also, the face that loads in the face room doesn't actually look very much like the face on the figure. Perhaps I'm missing something...
--
I don't particularly care for Brad Pitt either, though I can't explain why. He must remind me subconsciously of someone I hated or something.

Thanks. I just noticed those!
Of course Ryan2 still suffers from the same thing as Alyson2 -- no heavy caucasian upper eyelids. Even using the blink morph looks weird to me, like the eyes are being squeezed shut.
But with a body as fabulous as Tyler has, I won't need or want to render any close ups of the face anyway.
ETA: The eyebrows are pure Brad Pitt. Despite not liking the actor particularly, I'm quite taken with the texture. It's really very good.

I guess a lot of people havent heard the phrase 'dont look a gift horse in the mouth'.
Tyler is a free fix for Ryan - who didnt seem to be a very popular figure in his base state - not a figure developed from scratch. There are also a lot of hurdles to overcome when you are reworking a figure made by someone else that already has a 'baked' mesh and grouping.
Had I developed him entirely on my own, hed be part of 'GND Anastasia and Alexander', and wearing the more stylized Alex head. As it stands I took the initiative to include the Alex head as a 'bonus' for anyone that was unhappy with his default head.
If people dont like the Alex head either, well - the face room and the Morphing Tool are right there in Poser at your disposal.

Her stomach had a more natural shape as well and her backside looks more square now for lack of a better word..heh. And there's a lot more resolution in the thighs and crotch than there used to be. I did discover tho, that the innermouth has nothing but the color texture plugged into the diffuse. So I copied the settings from the gums, and gave it a different group number. It did help a bit. There is a possibility to check "other locations" during installation. Since DAZ content seem to work the same way and gave me trouble before, i put a little text file in every folder with a runtime and the name and extension changed to "poser.exe".

Actually, that is pretty accurate for someone who wears flats or uncushioned sandals regularly (barring the lack of color on the heels and tarsal pad, and the callusing around the edges both of which can be fixed with a texture modification and a normal map for the crease detail). Or goes barefoot on hard surfaces. The arch needs a morph to give more lift between the pads for someone who wears modern supporting footwear, and another morph to round off the edges for youth or a moister environment like the inside of a closed shoe.
And I love M1's rigged toes; NO MORE SHOVEL FOOT!!! You could actually pose her in a modern dance pose and make it look right from the floor up. Those who want to just stick heels on and forget it have what they want, mostly.
And no Laurie. You aren't alone in wanting more than a single hinged lump at the end of the leg...... ;)

Heh, yeah, I know that little text file rename to "Poser.exe" trick. I've used it for years. Oddly in this case it didn't work on either Miki4 or Tyler. I even rechecked the executables proper name.
Of course being that I do all the Runtime editing and re-organising on the PC Poser Pro 2012's not installed on, this suddenly threw a monkey wrench in my way of doing things.
Here's the fun part, just to see, I pulled over the actual executable itself from my PC where PoserPro2012 is installed and to my bloody surprise the installers recognised that and would let me install to my Runtimes of choice finally. I guess that old text file rename trick doesn't work on these. So I decided to play it safe and put the installers on my PP2012 PC letting them install to where they want instead.
Now that I have that little fun out of the way, off to my Runtime rebuilding. Ugguu...
btw, if you ever find yourself having to rebuild your runtimes and editing lots of CR2s late into the night, the song "Path" by Apocalyptica is a good one.

there really are no nipples on the base tex? there isnt an alternate texture included?
i can create a transparent PSD overlay for her texture with nipples (and other quick fixes if i see them) and upload it to my freestuff -- but is that going to be complicated for the average user?

I think Tyler a vast improvement over Ryan, but I would have liked to have seen a variety of texture maps for avaialble at launch. I don't know why, but these SM people always lack facail/body hair options and that is irksome.
This may have been covered in this thread, but if it was I couldn't find it. Can Tyler wear Ryan clothing? Does one have to buy a separate Wardrobe Wizard module for this or does it come with one?

Ryan already has several texture variants. if you want ethnicities you can load these, and customize Tyler in the face room. IIRC the Ryan textures are under Materials>People>Ryan.
he has about as much body hair as the typical well groomed modern male. if you want the 'Robin Williams' look, it will look awful with that much hair coming from simply the texture. hairy textures just look like garbage (sorry, but its true: hair is not flat and plastered to your body).
it could be done in the hair room if someone were devoted enough to body hair to spend many weeks setting it up and optimizing it -- but then people would complain about complexity, extra steps, extra render time and any potential limitations it would have.
if SM were to have devoted that much time/resources to body hair, you would basically have base Ryan with dynamic body hair right now, and nothing else. i think that what they chose to spend their time/resources on was a wiser decision. you cant have everything, but what you do have is much improved FREE base figure that can now be further tweaked and altered by end users and merchants into variants that will please everyone.
cheers,
-Gabriel

My assumption is that you're on a Mac? If so, there is an issue we discovered yesterday afternoon: the options for customizing the install location had been errantly reset by our development tools. We will be issuing an update to the project with tweaks to the Mac installer before too long that include true customize options. My sincere apologies. We did not intend to restrict where you could install Miki or Tyler. And the installers are purely there to assure that the application level support files are installed properly (faceroom, talk designer, universal pose .dat).
Thanks for your patience.

Paloth - I urge you to read the .PDF user guides for both characters. They are installed beside the character's runtime. There are really detailed descriptions of everything included, operational instructions, morph lists, adivce about legacy morphs in combo with the new morphs, how the real-lashes work, etc. - if you've missed the part about the full genitalia material set, you're likely going to miss some other really useful things about the charcters...

I respectfully disagree about body hair maps, if they have the proper displacement they look very natural and not flat. Jepe is the master of body hair and beard textures and his stuff looks very real.
I know that some people perfer the "smooth" gym bunny look, but not all of us want a hairless male character. I think Tyler is excellent and I hope that he does inspire merchants to come up with stuff for him.

There have been comments that this is missng, or this should be different from Tyler and Miki, and even Anastasia. In some cases I agree, or rather in ALL case I agree those add-ons should be available. But why ask about them or complain that they aren;t available? MAKE THEM and sell them (or give them away as you will)! Look at Shae and Candy for examples of how to make "morphs on top of Morphs", M4 and especially V4 have hundreds if not thousands of additional textures. Heck with the face room and the new Link with Zbrush it shouldn;t be a hard learning curve for many to develope.
This is an OPEN MARKET, not one that is already saturate as with the V and M figures! Jump on it and turn some of those ideas for missing items into offering rather than wait and (I don;t want to say complain because I think that's too strong a word) but comment on the missing elements or elements you;d like to see changed.
Please don;t take this as critisim, it's not meant in that way at all, but it is meant as a suggestion with hopes if prodding some people to start supporting the SM figures, either in their base forms or in the excellent morphs that Gabe has created Teyon has done some good work on Miki, but if you would like to see anything different or added, then DO IT! This is a chance to get into a market area that is virtually wide open, and the more that is made available to increase the attraction of these figures, the more people will jump on to support them. Don;t sit back and hope that some one else will make what you want to see.

Anyone who has a problem with a figure should just buy $1000 worth of software, learn to use it, and make their own figure. I don't understand at all why any of us spends any money buying from other people when we can all just make all the stuff we need ourselves.

moriador,
I thought I was making it clear that I wasn;t "bashing" anyone, I was trying to point out that there is an opertunity opening up that could be mutually beneficial to creators and users.
the thing is no single creator, or even a small team can support a new, or majorly modified figure with every thing people want. But if enough people make even a small individual effort it can do wonders for the user base and maybe put a couple of bucks in someones pocket.
I guess I see this a little different. When I got into Poser there were only a handful of sellers, mostly it was scrounge for freebies or learn to make it your self or do without. I don;t think you need thousands of dollars. I work with silo which is a very reasonably priced software that included UV mapping and some sculpting tools (not in zbrush's class but very usable with a little effort). and I use UVMapper Pro which was in the range of $25 when I bought it I think the free version is floating around out there.
Again this isn;t criticism or bashing, I can well understand that you may not want to learn software or possibly don;t have the time, that's how those of us that do sell stuff make money, but you can also put your requests in the form of a request in the Wishlist Forum, something I try to look at about once a week or so (but I am terribly slow at making content since I get sidetracked playing with new features to frequently, and just today I crashed my working hard drive with most of my modeling and poser software so I'm now really out in the cold for a while).

Miki 4 is super cute; I'm pretty sure she'll be my go-to-Asian-girl if I can get some decent accessories for her. Her body morphs leave a bit to be desired, though...
GND Tyler with the Alex face morph is actually a good looking guy, though the default face is a bit off-putting.
Overall, I like them a lot. I hope they get better clothes support than Anastasia has so far...

True. I really shouldn't have used such strong language. I'm sure you weren't intending to bash, or even criticize, anyone. It's easy to become sensitive to the argument that we should just make stuff ourselves. Sometimes, when it's directed at those who are capable of contributing (as your post is), it's useful and even inspiring, but sometimes it's used as a way to put down those who don't create content. I've heard the argument so many times as a way to discount the opinions of mere users that I guess I'm a bit oversensitive. Mea culpa. Not your fault. I owe you an apology. I'm sorry.

I guess I don't know how to use WW properly. I thought I was pointing it at Tyler, since he was selected in the scene. When I asked it to analyse, it said there were no morphs to analyse, which I thought was strange.

It allows you to make the clothes fit a morphed figure. Say, if you have a dress for Vicky but it doesn't fit the size 34F boobs you put on her. WW will let you fit the dress to her morphed body.
For Tyler, it would probably be easiest to make a single morph for him. See question 9 here:
http://www.philc.net/WW2_FAQ.php
Name the morph "tyler" or something easy to remember, then you will see it and be able to choose it off the menu.
Eventually, WW will ask you to locate the Ryan 2 CR2. Navigate to the Tyler CR 2 and pick it.
Depending on the clothing item, you may have to use the deflate/inflate, smooth, etc., to make it look right.

Why? I have all my characters in their own separate Runtime and not in the Programs folder where Poser's installed. So I need him in that outside Runtime with the rest of my characters but the installer don't wanna. m(_ _)m
Cooper
Actually I'm working with the Windows installer. Probably more like a pebcak error on my part. The installer didn't seem to like my stand in for the Poser.exe, I still may have done something wrong. Either case, with the real Poser.exe it does let me install to any Runtime.

I managed to get WW to analyse the GND Ryan morph no problem. Is the suggestion above, to make a further FBM using the option in the Poser figure menu likely to get me better results?
I am finding it is necessary to open up joint editor and make adjustments for most items I'm trying to convert (from Michael 4) though... but that's to be expected, of course.... isn't it?
Some clothing items I have, I'm somewhat tempted to have a crack at manually fitting them in a modeller and re-rigging... which will mean learning that process... but I'm sure that would be a worthwhile learning exercise for me.

Nope, no problem really. Darrell wanted to try making lashes that were more realistic than the painted on fair we are so used to in the Poser-verse, so he did. That's pretty much the entire reason they're there. I think it was a good call.
In fact, if you want the original lashes, Go to the Eyelashes section of the head's morph area and you'll see that NoEyelash is set to 1. Turn it to 0 to get the original Miki 3 lashes back.
