They should have never touched Miki 1's feet except maybe to scale them down a bit. Those don't look near as nice. He has flat feet ;) Dunno what it is with all the flat feet lately.

His feet do look kinda flat. Is that the default body? ISTR Miki 3 looking a little soft.

There's a foot Arch morph.

nobodyinparticular posted Tue, 25 September 2012 at 4:55 PM

Teyon, thank you. You did a very nice job. Internet forums are dominated by complainers. Pointless to argue. I think it is why many people just lurk.  I think people don't look at the dials enough. You can make fairly decent characters out of many of the Poser people if you try. Again Teyon, I like her very much.

Teyon posted Tue, 25 September 2012 at 4:55 PM

I never saw Miki1's foot. I wonder if we have it? I should check. I've only gone back as far as Miki 2.

Thanks. I'm glad folks are liking the new body for the most part - haven't heard much about the Miki 4 morph but still, it's nice to know the body is better than Miki 3's. As for the rest, people like what they like. I try to hear everyone out and then just do what I can to meet folks half way while pleasing my bosses. Sometimes I even manage to get that right. :)

TZORG posted Tue, 25 September 2012 at 4:58 PM

ISTR the feet is one of the few things they changed about the geometry from Miki 1 to Miki 2......

I do like Miki 3 (don't have 4)

It's not the tool used, it's the tool using it

Teyon posted Tue, 25 September 2012 at 5:18 PM

Ah. That explains that. Well, P10 figures will be (hopefully) even more realistic so I'll be sure to default to arched foot and have a flat foot morph instead of the reverse.

Here's a really old test render I did ... this one also uses the Asian Beauty texture set, and also uses the "Miki 4" head morph (since Teyon brought it up ...)

Interesting to compare to Miki 2 (which I think is the Miki used in my avatar).  I like this newer face much better.

Great renders here. Weight mapping is so much better but it is not the holy gral. It still needs a lot of JCMs and postwork. I agree with RGUS, hands are to big. Lets see if Miki 4 has propagating scale options.

What really helps the toe bends? Involve not just the actor we calll the "toe" but also use the actual individual toe joints. I know there is a pose pack of Miki4 foot poses in the works and the preliminary screen caps I've seen from that are pretty hot.

Finally putting up a render after studying her for a while... still the reigning queen of expression...;)  Really nice original morphs in there as well. Facial morphs hidden all over the place.

Head/neck and torso twist, bend side to side seem superior to dialing them. So easy to render compared to V4 and 71K a good weight.

So this inspired me to learn the morph brush. I only did one foot and I'd start over again just because I learned so much.

Left is before, right is after.

I also found that bending and scaling each toe into a more realistic position was very helpful.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Have to say I'm a little underwhelmed. She has the strangest looking butt I've ever seen. Also, whoever rigged the eyes has probably never used the "point at" feature in Poser or they would know how badly they screwed up.

Why make the eyelashes a seperate figure? That's just going to make developement harder.

Back to her eyes...she does indeed look crosseyed. I wish as well that she had morphs to move her eyes and eye sockets up or down and in or out as well as increasing their size (without using the anime morph)...all very important to me in creating unique characters.

The "ear up/down" morph isn't very good because it leaves the "attachment point" in the same spot and just "stretches the ear.

One last thing. I HATE the exe installer!!! I am not an idiot who needs to have everything installed for me! In fact, I don't want ANYTHING in the places you decided to put them! I want geometries in the geometry  folder. I want pmd files all in an injection folder.  PLEASE...don't do me any favors! Just give me the zip, I'll put everything where I want and run it through Poser File Organizer to correct the references.

Rant over.

why would you not want to manually move the eyes separately from each other for a less crosseyed look?  when people look at something close up their eyes converge, and when they look at something in the distance their eyes diverge.  does the point at trick adjust for that movement?

So if you don't like the one in her head actor, you can use the ones in the face room.

Rant over.

Some people would bitch if they were hung with new rope.

There are these things called "morphs" with with figure, you can change the shape of the butt if it isn't to your fancy.

The eyelashes as a separate figure were in response to customer input on Miki 2 or 3, I remember a number of requests for it.

If you don't like how the eyes and ears work, redo the rigging in the modeler of your choice.

The exe installer is there for a reason.

According to the Poser Product Manager, the exe was necessary because some files had to be added to the Poser program to support Tyler and Miki4.  It won't be necessary for the next version of Poser.

Are we happy yet?

"There are these things called "morphs" with with figure, you can change the shape of the butt if it isn't to your fancy."

That's a bit of a stutter you've got there.

**I've already done some work on her butt with the morph tool...but, 1: I stand by my claim that she has an ugly butt and 2: there are no morphs included in the package that will fix it.
**

"The eyelashes as a separate figure were in response to customer input on Miki 2 or 3, I remember a number of requests for it."

Since I don't frequent either Smith Micro's or Content Paradise's forums, I was unaware that anyone had ever complained of it being an issue. I may have missed it, but I don't remember anyone bringing it up here either. Since, as I have now been informed, she does, indeed, have eyelashes built in, it become as much a non-issue as V4's eyebrow zone that hardly anyone uses.*

"If you don't like how the eyes and ears work, redo the rigging in the modeler of your choice."

Ahh. I guess that's your answer to any complaint..."I you don't like it, fix it yourself!" You assume I haven't already done so. Your mistake.*

Unless it made a change to the actual poser exe file, it's not...certainly it adds nothing to the runtime that could not be handled with a regular zip file.

I also found that bending and scaling each toe into a more realistic position was very helpful.

One thing I learmned from working on V4WM is that each person notices different things about a Figure.  I myself was concerned about the bending of the collars and shoulders, but somehow no one paid much mind to the elbows; it wasn't until after she was released that someone pointed out they could bend better; I even have test renders showing her bent elbows! Quote - Great renders here. Weight mapping is so much better but it is not the holy gral. It still needs a lot of JCMs and postwork. I agree with RGUS, hands are to big. Lets see if Miki 4 has propagating scale options.

I don't know about that. I have managed to rig a toon figure with out a single JCM thus far and he bends marveslously. I think JCM's are needed when the mesh fights against what the rig wants to do. I'd be interested to see a "realistic" Poser human modeled for articulation as opposed to being modeled with every muscle cut out and learn how well it bends without JCM's. I think it'd be doable but would it be welcome by the community? Probably not. So it's a compromise and that compromise forces JCM's on us (in my opinion).

It would also help things along if we lock the rotation limits so that the figure always bends realistically, providing a pose or something to unlock the figure's limits for those who may need to push a pose beyond realism. With a locked figure, you're less likely to run into situations where the bending doesn't look so great.

I agree on that one!

Often time I have been tempted to complain about a bend not looking 'right' only to try it myself in the mirror to see how it should look and find out that the pose itself is beyond what the normal human body can attain.  Also sometimes the bend we think we are trying to do with one joint should really be accomplished with 2 or three joints to look natural. (for instance looking way up is going to invovle the neck head and chest bends and maybe even the abdomen to a small degree)

Quote -

Antonia WM bends very well and has no few if any JCMs, but she also does not have a mesh that heavily follows muscle shapes and contours.  To support your point, that is one of the main digs about her - lack of suitability for sculpting.  She'll never look like anastasia, but she takes alyson 2 to the cleaners in a pose-off!

With a WM, you do not "NEED" JCM's.

Before WM, I made tons of morphs to get bends and movements right.

Now with WM, I deleted most of those, and I have not created a single one since I got PP2012.

In retrospect?
It would have been a lot smarter to just deleted ALL JCM's, before going to WM.
