Hi, I like to create some female models with visible protruding ribs. Are there any models to be recommended? So long I worked with Alyson, Stephanie and Zandra, but the results are not so convincible. The new "real details" add on by ironman13 is nice, but it still looks unreal... for exxample the ribs don´t show at the back...
Unfortunately I´m not able to build anything on my own...
Thanks and best,
Solstice

Miki4 can do that. she has a morph dial for ribs and spine.
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!

Miki4, YES !
Or you could "paint" them on a displacement map and use any figure you have worked with before.
That way, you do not "have" to "build" anything, just paint them on a displacement map.
The power of displacement maps is highly underestimated.
A 4096x4096 displacement map gives you more then 16 million Micro poly's to work with. :-)

Thanks! Just downloading Miki4!
Unfortunately I have absolutely no experience in drawing displamcement maps... how can I do this? Sounds complicated!

Displacements are a good solution but you could also try the morph tool. Depending on the mesh of the figure, the results would vary..

I think it will be a lot of fiddling for you and unless you are artistically inclined, pretty difficult. I would try the miki4 rib morph and see how that goes.

Yup, who would expect someone to be artistically inclined in a "digital artist's community"... just sayin' (ok, make pretend I didn't use that expression). some kind of emoticon.
Ps. I'm tending to agree with vilters on this one, although having the morph would be much easier...

Thanks guys! I´m quite happy with Miki4! The best ribcage morph I´ve seen yet! What a pity there´s not many textures, hairs and morphs for her yet...
Best,
Solstice

Miki 4 can use Miki 3 textures. So if you find a Miki3 texture set, just slap it on her. :)
Edit: Oh, and thanks for the compliment!

Well, I guess inclination is the start of the process?

For high poly count meshes ,Most use zBrush with a Intuos or Cintiq Wacom tablet.

well I try so hard to stay away from modelling and too much texture fiddling because i find at the end I have used up days and haven't made a picture. I compare it to someone wanting red paint and going out and spending days collectin ochre instead of just going to the newsagents and buying paint. but if you want a particular red and there is no other way, well maybe it would be worth it.

You're right esther, the only renders I've been doing are all test renders of whatever I happen to be working on at the time... It's actually been something of a concern so I've set it in my mind to start contributing to the gallery. The problem is that the fiddling is the fun part for me... I have such a huge portfolio of drawings, painting, ceramics work that I've accumulated throughout the years that the final image isn't my highest priority. I kind of just like to spend my personal time, well, fiddling. Does this make sense?
In any case I'll make an effort to put some stuff in the gallery. Thanks for not being too agitated by my generally anti-social nature, I know I can be rather abrasive in my comments sometimes.

hehe I actually have been here so long I have heard all these same lines before. And I can see your point too you know. But I think someone who just takes photos of models isn't going to sew the girls clothes or necessarily apply her makeup.
Will be looking forward to seeing what you come up with in the galleries.
If I was just making odd pictures I would probably fiddle more too (and everynow and again I do), but in trying to make a graphic novel I have to find as many shortcuts as I can. Even with doing that I have serious doubts about getting this thing finished in a timely manner. The smalles things in creating as certain scene can hold up my rendering eg some dynamic clothing giving trouble or some hair disappearing in preview etc.
