Hi there
I modeled a pair of stockings for V4 a ways back
imported them into Poser 7 then rigged them as a figure
looked good til i got poke through ....
then I imported them in again and made them into dynamic cloth and still got poke through ...........
Recently i read in forums about painted on stockings using nodes
I mess with nodes alot in Blender but not as much in Poser ...
so I took a wack at it and here are the results of my first try Tell me wha ya think
Things i will improve will be ...
Seam @ top of stockings (band)
Seam between Upper patern (band) & body of stocking patern
Seam up back of sockings
Thin heel of stockings

I already posted a realistic dual-stocking-skin material, once in 2006, and a couple weeks ago. I'm confused.
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Quote - I'm confused.
The trouble with the forums is that the 'gems' are buried in a huge amount of noise. First you have to know that there's a gem there to search for (and ideally who made it), then you have to use the search function, then see if the search results are what you hoped for.

I think bagginsbill's mask/shader is the ideal way to add the correct gloss (and different colors) to a stocking. I havent had a much of a chance to explore his explanations (especially difficult for someone who has never worked with nodes), but I will. But the stockings will still need special bits, like the heel treatments, the seam, welts, wrinkles, which have to be created separately. I think that is what thewebflea is doing, and I am eager to see his results. And vilters' painted-on corsetry: wow. I saw them earlier, and hope I can make something that looks so good. I just havent had time...
I think it's exciting the way people here explore and create. Most of you have an expertise far beyond mine in all these technical matters. I especially want to learn about nodes and the material room--I can see, from bagginsbill's and vilters' examples, how powerful a tool they are. A step at a time.....

Stokings for V...A really usefull and informative post. Can you post your image of V during childbirth, just to show what wearing those stokings gave her...for the sake of realism only. Stoking wearer for two years - mother for thirty

Hi there again ladys and gents
when I started this thread I mentioned how i modeled a pair of stockings to use in poser.
not to sell ... just in my own renders.
and i did also mention nodes ....
It was the stockings I was emphasizing not the nodes.
I only use the blender node to get the stockings on the figure.
the other nodes in above screen shots were for the skin prior to me adding stockings.
the stockings being of the lets say fish net type didn't have a sheen to my recollection ..... I can be wrong.
that being said ....
The paterns weren't painted on ... they were baked onto a uv (in this case torso & limb of v4).
using this method I didnt havta worry about seam guides.
and I can touch it up in photoshop if need be.
in the screen shot below you can see how the bake on method bridged the leg & torso with no hic ups.

after seeing the screen shots by Vilters, Anthanasius and the post by Bagginsbill.
I will work on the Glossy, blinn & Anisotropic when I make a sheer nylon pair in the future.

Do you set the stockings as constrain group ?
I'd like to try your stockings

yes
when i first did it .... ! only constrained top faces .. got poke through
so i increased vertices (sub divided twice) .. and constrained all ... to no avail :(
knee, thigh or foot poked through in some poses
