I see that the default carrara shaders folder has its own SSS shader section. Can anyone tell me whether the Poser SSS shaders that appear in mat poses folders will work in carrara?. I've tried a few of posers basic mat skins and i'm not really impressed with the quality of the output.

No they dont work in Carrara. Carrara use just one color to create the depth, so maps dont worlk in the SSS channel yet.

Anyone tried to mix SSS channel with Glow or Transparency or something other that may come closer to real SSS map support?

Here's an attempt I made a while back using the Multi Channel Mixer to get a more desirable SSS effect.

Basically I used a standard V4 shader tree in the first channel, and the same tree in the second, only with SSS and translucency turned on. For the blender, I made a gray-scale map to dictate where the second channel showed through. (Ears, nose, cheeks, etc.)

I don't think I even spent 20 minutes working on the setup, so I'd imagine things could be fine-tuned for much better results. Still, I like this a lot more than the wax-figure stuff I see coming out of Poser 9 :)

Nice, got any details to share? Screendumps, numbers, anything?

I set this up quite a while ago, but I'm pretty sure the tree in the included screenshot was what I used for the final render.

Again, I'm sure there's better ways to do this, but it works for me!
