My kitty was diagnosed with full blown bone marrow cancer this friday... today we took him to a new vet to let him go. Our other vet was too busy to spare the time... told me to take him home til monday. He was suffering, wouldn't eat, stared at the wall and was so weak.  His blood work up showed almost non-existant red blood cells.

Cancer threats has visited our house too often in the last 6 months. I honestly was not prepared for one of my pets to have it. He threw up 3 times on wednesday, and my vet could not see him til friday morning.

I cannot applaud the new vet Dr. Moffit enough for his kindness, and his care for an animal he had never seen. His euthanasia is not by the old "shunt" 2 drug method. He shaved Scootie's left leg, and gave him a large dose of sedation medication... Sootie died quietly and very calmly. I never liked the shunt method, it is frightening to the animal, and upsetting to the entire family present. If you have a pet, and the time comes, I reccomend you insist on this. We held as the drug put him into a deep sleep he went so calmly. I miss him already

Scooter (*Big Fat Scooter Cat, Scootie, Scoot Scoot, Fiesta Cat) born December 15th, 1997. His Dad was Smokey who died almost 7 years ago and who Scootie was identical to. His was born into a litter of 6. We have his brother Ziggy. His mom Tai-Tai we had rescued from a really clod winter. Who she and Smokey who was only 8 months old would make a set of babies! He was a healthy big boy who loved to run and play and adored everyone. He was very special.

I posted this not so much because I need condolences, but for the memory of a special kitty I held dear for 15 years, and he deserved to be remembered....

sadly,
Ariana
