Attached Link: Enhanced Bump mapping
In case any one is interested, I've just posted some images over at DAZ Bryce forum comparing Bryce 7.1's Enhanced bump mapping vs the older Bryce Legacy mapping.tjohn posted Sun, 09 December 2012 at 1:13 PM
Thanks, Dan! Great info.

Windows version - I've found that when I go into the DTE to make a new Mat, the Enhanced Bump is on by default but if it is an older made bump that I load up from the library, it does use the older Legacy Bump setting.

Ah ha...I was using an image map for a bump so that would explain it being active as opposed to legacy.

Hi Clay,
Has anyone tried the displacement feature?
Yes. It seemed to work best and most reliable on a simple Cube primitive.
But I consider the displacement in Bryce7 too unstable. Not as useful as I had expected and as I know from other apps with their displacement. -- Nevertheless, it looks promising and is nice to have in Bryce. -- Whereas I would prefer having simple Deformers (e.g. to bend an object) much much more. ;)

Oh Hubert, you know as well as I that Bryce isn't a "true" modeling application, its a true raytracing, landscaping beast. But displacement used in small increments can be very effective.:-)

The main problem with Bryce at the "moment" is that all the native primative objects need to be re-made, but we've overcome that a bit in the last build, there should be some prims from rashad and myself and I think foley too. That will take out the awkeward triangulation on the basic prims, so tesselation should be all smooth.

Good stuff, new proms will be most welcome and yes I've tried it, also on imported .obj's and it works O K but very small steps to start I've found is the best approach...

Hi Clay,
Bryce is to be used for... whisper... LANDSCAPES???! Ehm... nobody had told me then! ;)
Teasing aside. Yep, I never considered Bryce being a "true" modeler and its main purpose/design is rather to compose and to render scenes. Whereas it is impressive what certain users achieved with building from only primitives, booleans and terrains... and much patience.
I really love the incredible versatility of Bryce, esp for my "landscape-untypical" abstract images and the appearance of its render results (provided the Gamma Correction is disabled).
Cheers to Shiny Spheres. ;)

I, on the other hand, since my beloved Imagine3D will no longer run on my Win7 box, have turned to Bryce for modeling and find it quite handy and once you establish a work folw, very easy to model in.
