Try left clicking and holding on the icon for a couple of seconds and you should get a popup that lets you select between the two.

Hi rosie,
it works fine, as Dan suggested. A Leftclick onto Water Plane or Ground Plane icon and keeping the left mouse button pressed displays a small pop-up, to select surface or volume. I just verified this in my Pro 7.1 build 109.
Which OS?
Which BUILD of 7.1 Pro exactly do you have installed?
--> Click "Help" to open that menu and then CTRL+Leftclick onto "About".

Hi Rosie
I think you may want to reinstall it because it should be showing and it doesn't look like it is. There is another way to do this without volumetrics go to sky and choose fog height. I would seriously unistall Bryce 7 Pro and if Bryce 7 PLE is on there as well delete it as many people have had trouble with the two installed. The Volumetrics should be in the create Menu. As Water ground and cloud plains. if they are not there it would sound like Bryce isn't fully installed. Let me know how you get on and if you can't get it sorted I may know someone who can offer advice for that.
Good Luck

I hope it works for you. What type of Computer do you use? is it Mac or Windows Because if it is Mac you can't import photo's in it through Bryce 7 Pro so if you have Bryce 6.1 or Bryce 6.3 Install that and import them through that and then open the .br6 file in Bryce 7 pro unless you have Daz Studio. I think the problem may be the installation so I hope it is.
Cheers
