Subject: ? hole cut through a security fence

estherau ( ) posted Sat, 29 December 2012 at 7:58 PM · edited Thu, 01 August 2024 at 10:02 PM

I'm sure I saw a photoshop brush set or a model of this just recently somewhere?

Anyone seen anything like this?

Would a transparency map positioned where you want the hole not accomplish this? Sounds like the easiest way I can think of, given all of the background involvement I suspect is attached to this issue.

yeah I tried that.  the texture was tiling. would have looked okay though had it worked.

but I can render with and without the fence in photoshop and cut a hole in post if I don't need too many different shots of same part.

Sounds like an easy answer, to me.

What fence model are you using? Is it an available freebie? could be done in a matter of minutes depending on the model (actual modeling or transmap).

Have you seen this?

Yep I did actually see that one but my fence is internal with more clasical looking wire. the fence is from a stonemason set.

Anyway, the artist is Ancestorsrelic... http://www.sharecg.com/v/61825/gallery/5/3D-Model/Electric-High-Security-Fency-system-as-OBJ

Check out his gallery of other freebies and his renders as well, just great stuff.

primorge ( ) posted Sat, 29 December 2012 at 11:12 PM

ah well, don't have that particular .obj... I'm sure that the solution is pretty simple though.

estherau ( ) posted Sat, 29 December 2012 at 11:18 PM

I think I only need one shot of it so I'll go the post work solution.  thanks.

Anyway, I was bored... so I rummaged around and made this quicky image... "Depressing Fence With Hole".

Transmapped single poly planes, and my HiResPlane prop with morphs (render took about 8 minutes I guess).

estherau ( ) posted Sun, 30 December 2012 at 2:07 AM

that does look very good.

thanks, but both you and I know that it looks like crap. Like I said I was bored... I occasionally will post quicky images as part of my "Troll Renders" series. Chuckle.

here's the hole section of the trans.

estherau ( ) posted Sun, 30 December 2012 at 4:02 AM

u might think that. I think it would look fine with other stuff around.

You ever need help with simple odds and ends for your comic (If it's something that I'm capable of doing and I'm not in a funk) don't hesitate to ask, esther.

estherau ( ) posted Sun, 30 December 2012 at 4:34 AM

thanks.  that sounds really cool.

I am sure I'll take you up on that one. I'm always needing broken and fixed things and little wiring things etc.

Don't know if this will help, but the first thing that came to my mind was PhilC's scissors:

http://www.philc.net/Scissors_page1.htm (hope this link is ok to post here)

You use it directly on the obj.

i7 6800 (6 core/12 thread), 24 GB RAM, 1 gtx 1080 ti (8GB Vram) + 1 Titan X (12GB Vram), PP11, Octane/Poser plugin, and a partridge in a pear tree.

Oh, and a wiener dog!

That looks pretty good.  You could try a magnet on the hole area to distort  the fence  a bit.

Happy New Year, Esther! 😄

...poor results with a magnet or morph for distortion when you consider that most transmapped planes of this sort are a single poly. ditto with PhilC's scissors. Not familiar with the fence that esther is using, but knowing that it is a Stonemason .obj and his mesh economy, highly doubt there is alot of polys.

estherau ( ) posted Mon, 31 December 2012 at 5:14 PM

You are correct - the morphing brush wouldn't even show up on it.  But anyway it's a distant scene so it doesn't look too bad.  At a later date I will need more hole cut fences though.
