Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
I am guessing, but buying as a new figure V2 will probably be less expensive than buying V1 and an upgrade to V2. V2 is Victoria, but with more variability. Everything will port over. The V2 textures work on Victoria. Chad said in his interview, that there are just going to be additonal morphs. Emily, in her weekly messages says they are doubling the number of morphs. This and the addition of a second geometry which is Vicki scaled to match Posette and groups adjusted to also correspond. All P4 clothing will conform and all Vicki maps will still work on the figure. It keeps the head morphs , but except for hands, the body morphs would have to be lost.
All of the existing Vicki cr2 3rd party characters you see in the store will work with both Vicki and Vicki2 :) Also all textures will, etc. The primary difference between Vicki and Vicki 2 is ONLY that there are many many more morphs than on Vicki ;p Also, a second character is provided as well, that being as Jaager has said, the Vicki2Posette port... this is a rescaling, regrouping of Vicki, so unfortunately, she will have to have her own things created for her, as far as "remorphed" body's goes, though the face should be able to transfer from Vicki to Vicki2Posette just fine :) I would personally wait and buy Vicki2, you will get more for your money. And all of your favorite things you may wish to buy for her will work on her.
They will be partially incorporated, yes. In that some of it is automatic, but most of it will have to be hand set, these are special muscle morphs that will look like muscles flexing, but not be to an automatic setting, nor automatically happen during animation. Each will need to be set up for the most part.
No. Again. Vic 2 has two parts: The main part is Victoria 1 with many more morphs. The upgrade would not need to include a geometry file. It is the same. A second part is an additional geometry. This totally separate part allows the use of Vicki's head morphs and textures on a body that Posette's clothing can conform to. It increases the wardrobe. This part is the part with only head morphs - the regular Vicki head morphs. It does the same thing as the hybrid: Vicki head on P4 body but it has the advantage of keeping the regular Vicki maps. If you have Vicki, you just need the upgrade.
Saluda is based on Millie. The lips texture is most of the bottom half of a map and the nipples - the top half. These are on a third layer. Look at the texture on the lips #11/12 and you can see that it is the bottom half of the head texture. That is the back of the head, an ear and the front of the neck. With the V2 hi res texture the area of the lips is close to that of Millie with the lips on 500x500 , but the nipples are still 4 times higher resolution on Millie than the 4000x4000 V2 hi res. The V2 textures will work on Millie as long as you assign the correct map to the lips and nips (not the main V2 textures). No, V2 textures are not supposed to work on P4. V2 textures are V1 textures. DAZ is just using a marketing ploy when they are advertised as V2.
Sorry Jaager But I do not understand all information in your message. You are deeper in Poser than I am. I do not know nothing about layer and resolution. I am just applying the texture to charaacter.. The question is: Does the textures can be applied to all Cr2 derived from Vicky as specified by Mehndi?
Vicki is difficult to texture because she uses more than one map. Vicki - straight out of the box uses two and Millie uses four. What this actually means is that with two maps two different materials use the same spot on a texture map to supply the color. Yes - you can use the textures on any Vicky. The SkinHead, SkinBody, Eyebrows are the main materials to use the textures on. If you are using Saluda, or MillieJCM just use the separate lips/nips texture for these two materials. All of the other materials can use the regular textures. This is difficult enough to explain without it having to be filtered through a second language. You are going to need to experiment a bit more with applying the textures until you come to uderstand the way a material and a texture map work together. On #11 it looks as though you used the body BUM on the head - I do not know why the texture came out so "dirty" looking otherwise, because the splotches are not from the texture itself.
I'll just step in here. What I found was that even when you loaded the textures and the bumps, when you selected some of the options, the textures did not load correctly. Now, I just load the textures and bumps and then select them manually if they aren't correct in the material section--just like you do normally. The eye and lip colors do load--its the full texture selections that don't--and what nitreug is getting is what I got in the beginning. I don't know if this is a bug or if I'm doing something wrong. Jim, I think the attraction to some about the 'shrinking to Posette' is that she will be able to wear P4 clothing. I can't imagine any other reason myself. Maybe I'm mistaken about this, but I think this was what caused the excitement about that particular issue. Frankly, I prefer Vicky myself, but I have WArrior's Polyette if I want to use P4 clothing. Now I have Momodot's Fat Vicky too which is very good--my problem with it is that I don't have the technical know how to clothe a fuller figured character :-( However, I'm expecting I will buy V2 upgrade for the added morphs, but since I'm always one to 'wait and see', I guess I'll do that. I have the V2 textures and like them--but am finding I'm using the bump map with other textures more than the textures themselves. I can't understand why the V2 textures won't work on any character mapped as Vicky--if you look at the textures, they use the exact same templates as Vicky. The big thing with these is the innovative way for changing the textures, IMO. Diane
I was surprised at the pose files that affected the materials instead of the body parts. For me, it is more of a gimmic and at first I suspected it was a PPP thing. Poser wants a LOT of RAM. It does not always play nice with RAM Optimizer and I have had it freeze trying to set a pose, so I am a bit leary of this materials-pz2 file thing. Too much of it may really suck up the RAM. As far as the P4 clothing part goes, DAZ may have an additional customer base interested in clothed figures and this gives these users one figure -hair-face morphs-textures that can use both the P4 wardrobe and Vicki wardrobe. I don't know if they are filling a need or offering a potential. There has been a lot of noise made here about the P4 wardrobe not ftting Vicki.
I thought the pose files that set materials were a gimic too, until I started setting one up, and figured out how versatile they can be. I've been putting up alternate CR2s for most of my items with the different materials set, but with the poses I can do things like have 6 different material and transparency settings for 4 different shoes, giving 24 combinations, which would take 48 cr2s to do (as you need one for the other foot, too). You have to plan ahead when you set the item up, of course. There might be a small hit in RAM if the posese are calling for maps on parts that aren't present in the item, otherwise I can't see a problem. Diane- that was sort of my thought too, everybody has the Posette, so if I was going to use her clothing I'd use her- she isn't all that bad, after all!
No, she (Posette) isn't that bad--and, as I said, with Warrior's Polyette (Vicky head/Posette body), that versatility has been available. Unfortunately, though, you have to adapt textures to fit Polyette. I'm assuming that the Vic2 textures will fit the Vic2/Posette version and then you can easily use the clothing. Using poses to insert eyes and lips is easier in the long run than going back and adding yet another texture just for the eyes (altho' its easy enough to add the eyes or lips on a layer in PS/PSP and save). However, I can sure see it for your use--boy, that would be neat as all get out to be able to offer shoes, for instance, with all the textures loaded and you could change easily (and, I assume, also a transmap, bump, etc). That's pretty nifty I'd say. I like that idea a lot better than using it to change eyes or lips. Diane
I use P4 in this context to mean Posette. The P4 in the title had me confused. Thank you for the clarification. I generally use my own bumps so the issue did not come up when I looked at the textures. So, the blemishing is the bump channel. It is just not caused by what I thought. I can not ever remember trying it, but I did not know P4 would not convert a TIFF into BUM. Is it just JPEG and BMP then?
Hmm, Jaager--its actually caused when the .jpeg gets in the bump channel instead of the .bum. I don't know all the technical stuff--I had always thought that Poser converted .jpegs to .bums too, but this seems to be a special case where it actually brings in the .jpegs--which I assume Pro Pak can use. It sort of threw me for a loop at first, but even now when they are loaded correctly, they don't always work correctly (for me) for all textures. Thus--I just slot them in manually once the are loaded. Diane
Vicki 2.0 Map READ ME A variety of MAT poses have been added for your convenience in giving you the most versatility from you DAZ maps. You will find these under Poses in your libraries directory in the folder MAT Vicki. 'The V2Map1NaturalP4 and V2Map2MakeUpP4 poses are used to load the .bum Bump maps while the The V2Map1Natural and V2Map2MakeUp poses load the .jpg versions. **NOTE: If you are using exclusively Poser 4 Pro, you will not need the V2Map1NaturalP4 and V2Map2MakeUpP4 pose files or the .bum files that are included in this installer, and these files may be discarded.' This being the case, doesn't it also seem reasonable that the .jpegs could be discarded?? if you only use Poser4?? Thought the readme might clarify it for everyone.
I don't remember to be truthful--let me check my archive folder and see--hmmm, close to 7 MB each--lite and med. textures. No, it never created any .bum files. And--if you load the .jpegs by mistake, it doesn't change those to .bums (they evidently are just for Poser Pro Pak). I haven't tried manually loading them though.

Should one wait for Vicky 2 to come out before investing any money in Vicky 1 CR2's for sale here and there? It would be nice to know how any of the Vicky 1 characters available for download will work with Vicky 2. Will the morfs be transferable with Mover?
