Just got my CGSociety January Newsletter and in it they have this thread directing you to this page:

And the serial numbers for both Mac & Windows versions.

Don't know what's going on but some say it was a big mistake and someone will be fired for it and others say it's an attempt to close down open source software like GIMP. I have no clue what the deal is but it's worth a look.

Sounds like a great deal...some may say; "Too good to be true". I've downloaded a couple items but have yet to install them so I don't know if they even work. Thought I'd pass this on to you guys and gals and if you find anything out, please let the rest of us know.

 

There is a thread in the Poser forum on this. Several sites posted that Adobe was releasing CS2 for free in a move to remove the license server for the old product. Then after people clogged the site to download some sites reported that Adobe had said "no not free except for existing cs2 owners, and yet the page remained up, no login required and the downloads and serial numbers all work.

 

At this stage I am simply confused because no difinitive statement has been made that I know of.

There was a definitive statement, by Dov Isaacs, saying not free but it's been removed.

Forum moderator Danny_Gordon has posted this link over in the Bryce forum. The link from Forbes quotes Dov Isaacs as saying;

"Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2 who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that don’t require activation but do require valid serial numbers are available."

 It continues to say that;

"You are only legally entitled to download and install with that serial number *if *you have a valid license to the product!"

 

 

 

The post referred to there is the one that has been removed - I was trying to find it earlier to link in a thread on the DAZ forums. The link from the Forbes page is the same, and gives an error. That doesn't necessarily mean that the forum post was wrong or that Adobe won't say clearly that the applications are not for general use, it may simply be that they didn't want an unofficial announcement before the lawyers and PR people were done. The whole situation remains, for now, murky.
