I haven't upgraded Poser since 6 came out and was thinking of upgrading now. I mostly use Poser these days for the cloth room and sometimes assembling scenes and then importing over to Carrara for the details and rendering.
The reason I want to upgrade is that the Poser 6 cloth room has always been a little buggy for me and I was wondering how much better Poser 9 (or PPro 12) is? Is there a major difference between the two since I usually don't remder in Poser?
Any feedback would be most appreciated. ;)

Is the dynamic Cloth Deformer plug-in for Carrara not much good?
Tracybee posted Sun, 20 January 2013 at 10:18 PM
As someone who does use the Cloth Room, I don't think there is that much "betterness" in updating. Maybe a bit faster in some calculations because of better coding.
Poser7,8 and 9 do have many other and better options than 6 in other things. But the clothroom remains about the same.
There has been some chat in the MAX Forum about Dynamic stuff and Poser.
Might want to check it out?

It was my experience that the cloth room in Poser 7 was worse in one respect: it seems to like putting the figure's hands back in the collision list even though I'd previously excluded them. If the hands pass through the cloth during the simulation, hilarity ensues. :)
I'm hoping this has been fixed in later versions. I have yet to upgrade to Poser 9 despite buying it some time ago, and I'll be interested to hear opinions. I use the cloth room in the majority of scenes nowadays.

If Poser 9 is too much, Poser 8 is $21.55, but I'd pay the extra for Poser 9 to get SSS and weight mapping/Genesis compatibility...

Best thing of the latest versions "P9/PPro2012" for the cloth room is that it mow uses all cores of your CPU.
Poser 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7,
P8 and PPro2010, P9 and PP2012, P10 and PP2014 Game

Using all my cores is the selling point for me! Off to spend some money! Thanks all!

So does Poser 9 come in 64-bit and use all my cores also, or is it just PP 2012 that does that? The Smith site doesn't make that very clear if it does.

Above is being picture of salient part. What part is not being clear to you?

I saw the chart, but the statement I quoted above alluded to Poser 9 also having 64-bit. I just wanted to be sure before I invested.

I thought 64 bit refered to being able to use more memory rather than cores.

I think going from Poser 6 to Poser Pro 2012 would bring a lot of nice surprises. It's hard sometimes to appreciate how well the program is maturing but then I remember I do most everything differently now than I did it then. The morph brush is IMHO the single biggest non-rendering improvement since I started using Poser. So easy to create morphs, fix poke through, smooth seams and creases compared to earlier versions. That's the feature I'd expect will change your work habits the most.

I find it to have a refreshing scent, like a rainy walk in a meadow.
Seriously, ouch. If Carrara would ever see a stable release, maybe Sparrowhawke would come out of hibernation and update his once-promising cloth deformer. Otherwise there is just bullet. Last I looked Carrara's implementation was good for flags and scarves but still not up to the challenge of covering a basic animated figure. Maybe that has changed with one of the betas, but then it may have since broken again.
No, I'm not bitter on the subject of Carrara.

I have to say I totally agree with you moogal, along with IDL.
