In poser I import the model/model parts as an OBJ, if necessary, parent the parts in the hierarchy editor widow and then save the model as a PP2 Prop...
What is the correct process for doing this for DS so the model can then be used by others.
I do know that DS reads PP2s, but since Poser materials don't transfer well at all, I sometimes have to adjust the materials in DS... actually I never do since I don't know much about DS's shader system (but I'm trying to learn), well actually I did make a few VERY basic materials like metals and glass so I could convert some of my newer models so DS users can use them too...
Thanks in advance.

Nothing? Now I know why I hardly use DS... Is it that I asked the question stupidly and nobody understands what I mean or is it that nobody knows how to do this... ?
Okay, I'll try again...
Assume I'm a talking Chimp who just started using DAZ Studio...
Cimchim (me) has made a nice banana model and he wants to share with you humans... Cimchim (still me) would like to make that banana available to BOTH users of Poser (which Cimchim learned to do long ago) and to users of DAZ Studio... Cimchim has looked this up, but all of the tutorials Cimchim has found seem to fall short of answering that question directly, most seem to assume you already know this and that you are making the model for yourself, NOT to share...
Chimchim is sad.
It would seem to me that it would be a relatively easy thing to do... lots of people seem to do it... DAZ sells content is DAZ's format... people give away DAZ format models at ShareCG...
Maybe people think I'm asking how to rig a figure or make something complex? Or is it that DSON (or whatever that new format is) has changed things?
I'm just talking about something simple, saved the old fashioned way... so other people can use it...
Chimchim thanks you in advance for any assistance you can offer on this subject.
OOOOGH OOHK EEEH EEEH! (Thank you and may your bananas be sweet... thats in chimpanzee)

in order to share with both ds and poser users, heres what you need to do
ds user- save in a ds prop asset format
poser user- export out as cr2
studio doesn't create any other kind of poser files than a cr2
the ds user files need to be put in a my library file format
the poser user file needs to be put in a runtime file format
there you go.
and yes i read your post awhile back, but the question was not clear enough.
and i have to say your second asking while clear, is a bit pissy....
ask nicely with clear questions and others will respond to you more.

Thank you for the answer. Nothing in my question was meant to be pissy. I generally don't use emoticons so most people do interpret my statements as malcontent... which in general I am, but not when I talk to other people... I generally use self deprecating humor when dealing with other people because I have found that most people respond better if they feel they have the higher ground... hence me referring to myself as a chimp... I even said "Thank You" in chimpanzee... I called myself Chimchim for cryin' out loud...
I really try to be nice to other people and aside from a few people who get my humor and occasionally find it funny, most people either ignore me or dislike me... I really try to give back to the DS/Poser community as much as I can, If I learn something- I pass it on, if make a model using a new technique I make it available for free... I don't ask anything from anyone except for an answer or two here and there... and many of the times most people don't really even read what I wrote, they just assume something entirely different... but I say thank you anyway and then try and sort it out on my own because I don't want to sound ungrateful.
I have asked this same question several times over the last couple of years (always nicely) and have never gotten a clear answer that I could really use. As a matter of fact the last time I asked the question over at DAZ, nobody responded to it... I really didn't know why... I thought I asked a simple question... I have a model, I want to turn it into a prop in DAZ studio so I can share it with DS users... what is the process? There are only so many ways to ask that and or interpret it... The fault must either be with me or how I'm asking the question. Probably both.
When I wanted to learn how to do this in Poser, I bought a $40 book to find out the answer.
If DAZ users had a book I'd happily buy and use it.
All this aside, I do think I am the idiot for not "getting it" either, how to properly communicate with other people or to find the answer on my own...
Thank you for taking the time to respond and I'm sorry to you or anyone whom I may have offended.
I mean that sincerely.

Have you customised the materials in DS? if not there's no real point in saving a DS version as it won't be any better than the Poser version (just don't use external binary morph targets). If you have there are several options - save as a DS asset, so the DS and Poser versions are separate, is one but you could also save materials settings for the prop in DS (and if you put them in RuntimeLibrariesMaterialsYourfolder along with the matching, and identically named, MC6 file DS 4 will apply them when the Poser files are double-clicked; if you want to include Ds3 support then you need to use the pose library for the mat files, and use .dsa as the save format) and it's fairly simple to hack a script preset (File>Save as>Deprecated) so that it can be paired with the actual pp2 and apply the DS materials after the prop is loaded (there's a thread on this at the old DAZ forums, and Valandar's recent freebies mostly use the equivalent technique).

Hi RHaseltine.
Have I customised the materials in DS?
Well, not completely yet... as a matter of fact that is the reason I have put off making a DAZ Studio version of my models till now... previously most of my models have been textured entirely by image based tiles, so there really was no point... But several of my newer models have material based textures (mostly mt5s) like metals and glass... I have made a small library of materials that "appear" similar to their Poser counterparts, mostly metals and some colored glass... I'm still working on a metallic "automotive finish"... But anyway, yes... That is my intention and main reason for wanting to make a DAZ Studio version of my props. Since mainly the only individuals who use my models are newbies, I figure it is better if they don't have to redo the materials themselves or fuss with it too much to get it to work.
I think I understand what I must do... Import the model, Redo the non image based materials using DAZ materials, and then save it via: File> Save As> Support Asset> DSF Figure or Prop File.
Thank you for all the info, I'll also look into finding that thread at the old DAZ forums
