Is that a sign that a new version is coming soon ? :o

I am on Poser 7 and was tempted when I got the email advert this morning.
The problem is I am not a good enough artist to get much out of the new features.
It is tempting though.`

Fantastic news, now I have to decide whether to go for Poser 9 or Pro 12. I haven't used Poser since Poser 4 and have an aging system.
I really want Poser for the dynamics and cloth room, is Poser 9 a good stable version?
mylemonblue posted Thu, 07 March 2013 at 10:32 PM
Even if you are still only using Poser 7 and don't do much more the difference in the quality of PoserPro's lighting is worth getting it for. Also the most amazing thing I love is how much faster and easier it is for me on my computer to use the Morph Brush. It's totally fantastic!
My brain is just a toy box filled with weird things
aeilkema posted Fri, 08 March 2013 at 12:56 AM
Only the rendering speed improvement is worth this sale price. Poser 9 will utilise all of your cores, while Poser 7 leaves them idle half of the time. The light system has been improved a lot and of course, IDL was added and a number of other excellent features.
I don't think Posers X will be coming soon, Smith Micro more often runs sales, they had this one last year and I did upgrade to Poser Pro 2012 at that time.

markschum I do not see myself as an artist at all, but going poser 9 was the best decision I made :) IDL and SSS became very important to me, even if I just make simple dolls. Not saying about my favorite feature - self illuminating objects ;) Just love it, can have very nice glow effects . From my point of view, P9 is awesome. And for this price, you should not hesitate :)
Cimarron I do not have any issues in P9. No crashes, or out of memory problems :)

It's a really brief sale. So people will have to make a quick decision.
It might not come again for a long time.
Love esther
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
aeilkema posted Fri, 08 March 2013 at 4:42 AM
From the time they sent the newsletter until the sale ends, there's 2 weeks, plenty of time to decide. When I did get Poser Pro 2012 they had a one day sale only, now that was quick decision time..... but I'm glad I did, since that offer never came around again, not even with this sale.

Thanks gloomy007..I can't wait to try it, especially the dynamics, giving my computer a springclean over the weekend before I install.
Hope the learning curve isn't too steep, been a Daz user since 2007 and the last Poser was 4!
Still it will be great to finally be able to use many of the great Poser products;)

does standard P9 use multicore processing or just Pro ?

Standard uses multicores as well, but it may be limited to a certain amount, not sure about that.

that is great news. I still have my $50 xmas gift ..so now it costs $15 :)
guess I will go with standard again then, as long as it does multi-core ... 64bit would be good, but saving $90 is more important :)

I've got a by now 4 year old Dell Inspiron 1545 with 3Gb of RAM and an Intel Pentium Core2Duo in it and runs Poser 9 fine, just as well as it does Poser 6. I'm guessing your 1 year old Dell can't be much worse then that.

I love the morph brush in Poser Pro 2012 (I think it is the same in Poser 9). There is the ability to create new morphs and to edit existing morphs. I did not use the morph brush much in Poser 7. Began using it in PP2010 and now couldn't do without it in PP2012 even though I have ZBrush. It is so much easier sometimes to just do things in Poser. :)
Here is a good video tutorial so you can see it in action:

It depends on your specs but I run PP2012 on a laptop without any problems.
You can see here what the system specs are:

What I want out of Poser 9 is that it runs on my macBook with (cursed!) Mountain Lion put on it by the idiots at Apple. My existing copies do not. I also want to be able to continue building custom figures and exporting them in a form both Poser and DAZStudio can open.
I've been up down and sideways through the Smith Micro site and I still can't tell if it is actually compatible. Anyone here have Poser 9 running under 10.8?

For those who may be like me ( as few of those as there may be ), and may have forgotten about this... it may not be too late!
I put Poser 9 into the cart, then logged out to go and check on my bank account... then forgot about it. Until today. Went back and logged into my cart to still find the same on-sale price, and was then able to complete the transaction!
Though, I had put Poser Pro into the cart, too ( hadn't made up my mind yet ), and found that it had reverted to full price.
Needless to say, I removed it before checking out.
Anyway... finally got an upgrade from Poser 7!
nomuse posted Sat, 23 March 2013 at 3:39 AM
Amazon may have a few copies left as well. Same deal.
Does run on my pre-retina macbook. Haven't tried to export yet but so far everything else I've tried has worked.

Sale has been extended to March 31st on both Poser 9 and PP2012 according to the Smith Micro newsletter that I got on Friday.
