I see Daz have released Daz 4.6 Pro. Has anyone tried it?
JV-Andrew posted Thu, 16 May 2013 at 5:00 AM
Yes, some nice improvements, including some sweet subsurface shader options. If you have a 64-bit system, I'd suggest it's a no-brainer to get it.

Thanks Andrew,
Do you know if it can be run on the same computer as DAZ 4.5 and are scenes constructed in 4.5 compatible with 4.6?
JV-Andrew posted Thu, 16 May 2013 at 5:24 AM
Yes, it's essentially the same version but with extra improvements, so all plug-ins, scene files etc that work in 4.5 will work in 4.6.
The only things that will look different are the splash screen and the desktop icon is now a different colour... when program boots up, it'll keep the interface settings you had for 4.5

Thanks again Andrew,
I've downloaded it and will give it a try

think they might have commited hari kiri with the install manager - if its really trying to redownload then real -time update all content that daz accounts might have bought the bandwidth cost will cripple the site ( as I try to download the 400mb genesis essentials for the 3 rd time)
animajikgraphics posted Thu, 16 May 2013 at 8:39 AM
Just downloaded it, but haven't installed it yet. I'll be installing it this week once I get some renders out of the way.
The SSS shaders look good too.

the other really cool addition is that you can now do spot renders to a separate window, so that means you can correct errors after the main render has been done without having to wait on the whole scene rendering all over again (just paste-in the spot render to main render using GIMP/Photoshop)

I didn't use the install manager. I just downloaded it from my account. Time will tell if I'm going to have problems installing it without the manager
cedarwolf posted Thu, 16 May 2013 at 9:47 AM
Interesting..thanks for the update. Attempting to download now.
martial posted Thu, 16 May 2013 at 10:03 AM
I have downloaded it.Can i just install it on the last version folder ?Sometime it automatically uninstal older one before install new one
Maybe a simple and clear step by step guide for updating would be a good thing from DAZ
Each time i am facing to some problems when i upgrade: sometime the old saved files don't load , some time one plugin stop working, some duplicated files message, etc
Each time i see some users asking the same things for example about plugins (upgrading or not, which need to update which don't need)
JV-Andrew posted Thu, 16 May 2013 at 10:24 AM
It will remove your current version of DS4 before installing itself... if you're updating from 4.5 to 4.6, your plug-ins will still work fine. I can't remember off the top of my head if any plug-ins from before then needed updates or not for DS4.
...that said, there are several plug-ins for DS3 that don't work in DS4 (motionmaster, light dome pro are the two that spring to mind), so it would really depend what you currently use.

I must say, Daz really impresses. Daz Studio started out clunky and more or less useless, but they have made steady improvements, I'm impressed. 4.5 was good, but 4.6 seems more stable, starts quicker, and the renders look better and seem faster.
The content management is also a big plus. My biggest rap on Daz had been the install headaches, just made it not worthwhile to buy stuff on their store, as the mutiple downloads and install hassle weren't worth it.
2013 has been a good year for Daz. Now I'm looking forward see what the new Poser brings . . . Two thumbs up for competition!
cedarwolf posted Thu, 16 May 2013 at 11:39 AM
Got it, installed it, working on a test render, but where the heck are these sub surface thingies located? In Poser they were (relatively) easy to find in the Materials room. Can't locate them here. Suggestions?
RHaseltine posted Thu, 16 May 2013 at 2:51 PM
Did you download and install them? They are add-on shaders (created in Shader Mixer) so you still have to apply them to the surfaces you want to use them on.
cedarwolf posted Thu, 16 May 2013 at 2:58 PM
Ah...didn't realize they were a seperate download. I saw something like them at the bottom of the page but the page said they were included. Back to work! Thanks!
JV-Andrew posted Fri, 17 May 2013 at 4:51 PM
Hell yeah, couldn't have done this in earlier versions of DAZ Studio :)

@JV-Andrew is this done with the SSS shaders that come with 4.6 or another shader pack?

Hi, yes it's SSS for 4.6 but requires an add-on purchase from DAZ store.
Not sure if we're allowed to post links to another store, so I better not, but you'd also need to buy the 'Subsurface Gummy & Plastic Shaders' in the DAZ Store (currently at a great offer price)
There's also 'Subsurface Toon Shaders' for SSS that's also on offer - anybody using DAZ Studio from enthusiast upwards would find them very useful. The PA doing the shaders has also confirmed he's working on doing a realistic SSS pack too, which will eventually hit the store when he's got them done (I don't know exactly how close they are to release, by they'll definately be another 'must have' for me).

I saw the 2 shaders on DAZ the other day, but you just confirmed that you do need the "Gummy" shader to get that effect you used.
I haven't even downloaded 4.6 yet, but I plan to grab both of those shaders from "Age of Armour" in any case. And the price is a steal!
I like the results from the gummy shaders quite a bit.

No worries, I've been pimping it everywhere I went today, LOL
BTW, I'm not in any way connected with the vendor/PA, but a good uptake should mean better 'goodies' in the future, which will be good for all of us ;)

I agree, I always try to support the vendor (both here on Rendo and Daz) that deserve it. I've been happy with other shaders from this vendor as well.

4.6 is working great so far, I like the new SSS shader. I had 1 crash so far because I set the resolution too high in 32bit. It is rending faster and all in all I'm impressed so far. I also did a dynamic cloth sim with no problem.
I did this render tonight, the only post was to add a background picture and a little touch up on the hair. This is a low resolution preveiw from flickr the origanal is 2500X2000.
