That's the old cyberman version, OP is looking for the more recent design, as in "2013 cyberman upgrade"; the title of the thread and attached images.

IIRC, Muskateer Zikeo (sp?) made the whole thing as a suit, or set of pieces for the DAZ figures.

Can't remember where it's posted, though.  Sorry.

yes ,I would love it as a prop.

i suppose if it had to fit any figure i guess it would be for m4 or maybe freak 4

as long as it could be scaled to fit v4 and she freak as well

Redfern posted Sat, 08 June 2013 at 9:17 PM

Sorry, Bluto.  I know how frustrating it can be.  Some people see little more than a metallic mask with "handles" and confuse the various designs.

I some ways, the "Nightmare in Silver" helmet harkens to the "Moonbase", "Tomb Of..." and "Wheel in Space" smooth facial design

I don't know of anything at the moment; but if I do, I'll post a link here.

@ Bluto - yes, I know but the head is very similar to the last version that it shouldn't take much to adapt it, and since it's only the head you asked for I thought it'd be useful.

DeathMetalDesk posted Sun, 09 June 2013 at 12:59 PM

thread piqued my interest so I've started blocking out a model fit to M4 (I don't have m4 but am using a bodysuit proxy for measurements, thanks Joe_Quick!), it's all very in the low assembling stage at this moment but I haven't run into any design problems at this point other than I'm going to have to use a displacement map for the eye corner tear divit. Not enough geometry is going to be there to model the divet. I'll fit it to M3 and V4 when it's done. Also, I'm going to take some minor design liberties but I'll try to keep with the newer Cyberman aesthetic overall.

I'll keep you posted here unless I get too frustrated...

Turning into an interesting challenge, not quite sure if this is going to be a fail or not yet. I've been busy with work but I have off tomorrow and I'll get back to modeling this thing. Regardless, I'll post some progress images in a day or two. I have a hard time with modeling things not of my own conception and dealing with preconceived design factors...

DeathMetalDesk posted Thu, 13 June 2013 at 1:40 AM

Ok. What's left... still have to do quite a few cuts; adding loops and control edges, culling some hidden polys. Some minor details, extrude and work in the beginning of the neck region, adjust the different planes, flatten normals, cleaning up. Once all of this is done I'll move on to the final level of subdivision on certain parts that require tightening up and smoothing... Detailing and establishing the finished eye-discs, mouth, etc. Then I'll move on to the UV mapping. Update in a couple of days or so.

Redfern posted Sat, 15 June 2013 at 6:45 PM

I know Bluto is wanting the "Nightmare in Silver" design, but I feel the following is at least tangently related.

For anyone who has wanted the design that debuted in Peter Davison's outing "EarthShock", Blender artist Richard Marklew has released .OBJ versions of both the helmet (both high and low resolution versions) and the distinctive yoke styled "chest unit" (which he uploaded just today).

The thread I'm linking itself has links to the items in question.

I now return you to your normally scheduled thread. 😉

DeathMetalDesk posted Sun, 16 June 2013 at 3:02 PM

Sorry I haven't gotten back sooner but I haven't had much time to work on this as the real world concerns (work and whatnot) have taken precedence... Anyway, have moved to the final level of subdivision. Still some minor modeling and tweaking left before UVing. The mapping should go pretty easily as I built this trying to stay as low poly as possible and with cutting up for mapping in mind. The final creases and details will be done with a displacement map. I'm just going to go ahead and put a lot of material regions for versatilities sake. After the mapping is done I'll create some additional fit morphs and do some minor .pp2/.obj text editing to tidy things up.

Here's some WIP wires and a basic Poser render to test Posers smoothing with this. So far so good I guess. Shouldn't be too long now.

I am curious; what about those slightly recessed cheek sections depicted in the photos Bluto shared?  Will they be handled by bump or displacement maps?

bluto posted Sun, 16 June 2013 at 8:43 PM

i am sooooooooo impressed this looks wonderful

DeathMetalDesk posted Mon, 17 June 2013 at 1:25 AM

@rokket, there's a material zone for each part or section. I'm going to add material zones for the eyes and mouth parts. In total there will be about 20 material regions. The render itself is Poser with just some diffuse grays, really just a test to check smoothing. The final finished renders will probably be IDL with some different materials. Snarlygribbly's EZMetals should look nice I'd think.

While the whole thing is going to be UV'd for completionist's sake I'm just going to go the procedural route for render I guess. Anyway, I'll include templates in case bluto wants to create some textures... I'm really just UVing it so that I can utilize Photoshop created displacement maps to finalize the detailing.

DeathMetalDesk posted Mon, 17 June 2013 at 1:31 AM

@Redfern, yes those areas on the cheeks and the eye divits specifically will be displacement. I'm going to use gray scale displacement maps run through a math node. While the model is not by any means an exact replica in terms of proportions I'm going to remain true to the gross surface details. Next modeling step is the recessions on the head gear pipes...

thanks for the comments.

_oh yeah, I couldn't find any reference for the detailing of the back of the helm... just winged it.

DeathMetalDesk posted Sat, 22 June 2013 at 8:05 AM

_update... the modeling, UVing, and assigning of material zones are done. Also templates have been neatly sorted and displacement maps for the final details are in place. All that's left now is to generate a .pp2, point that file at an external .obj, some minor text editing, and a few easy morphs. I had to make the displacement eye corner detail non-continuous into the eye socket as this was causing  an artifact in render, a necessary deviation from design in this instance IMO.

Anyway. I'll make a ReadMe and Runtime, zip it up, and submit the finished prop to the freestuff here sometime later this week. I'll post on this thread when it's ready for download.

chuckle, yeah. Sorry I seem to be lingering on when the thing is so close to completion but dotting all of the I's and crossing all of the T's is really the fun part for me. Really though, I need to wrap this up so I can get back to a more complex project that I've been working on. The reason that I started this was really just a way of procrastinating on said project, and of course as a friendly gesture. Ok, back to work... V4 fit next.

Redfern posted Tue, 25 June 2013 at 6:27 PM

Of course it's a great piece of modeling; that goes without saying.  (Such an odd expression)

But how do you intent to use it, Bluto?  Mix'n'match with other Cyberman elements?  Because, well, there's no "matching" body to go with it.  The closest thing might be Zikeo's "Amour Y".  It's geared for DAZ studio.  Muskateer Graphics converted it for Poser, but it was a site download and his site is gone.  I tried the "WayBack Machine" and even retrieved the download page, but the zip file itself was not archived.

Was actually thinking the Millenium baby! but no. Apollo, M3, V4, and M4 at default (crossing fingers with M4 as I had to use a proxy). Additionally there's 3 fix morphs for the neck just in case (scale x,y,z), a femborg morph, and 2 expression morphs just for fun (++good and ++ungood). The expression morphs can be mixed and matched at positive and negative values to achieve various results. I've also done a lot of testing on the morphs and set up pretty flexible limits.

Oh yeah, I also spent some time refining the materials and the prop now references an external .obj in geometries rather than having it embedded within the .pp2.

just a little thumbnail work and an intelligible ReadMe and I'll zip it up... probably late tomorrow night after work I'll submit it.

Well, I see Aremis2000 has at least read my questions about the Armour Z set just after 12 last night.

All we can do now is wait for a possible reply.

BTW, Bluto, yeah, I know about that newest IronMan suit; I downloaded it myself.  But something about Zikeo's spin looks a tad closer to "Nightmare in Silver" Cyber "shell".  I think it's that vague "X" shape within the chest plate that resembles the newest Cyber design.

Hmm, I think I'll download Zikeo's DS version anyway just in case he included .OBJ files with the package.

Sincerely,

Bill

Follow-up:  Nope, it's all native DS data.  Looks like we'll need to get a response from Aremis.

DeathMetalDesk posted Thu, 27 June 2013 at 6:59 PM

"Great work on the new cyber head. Now what about the 2013 Cyber body?"

Well, he only asked for the head. If he had asked for the whole lot I would have likely passed as I'm really busy with real world stuff and other projects. Have to admit that I've started planning a cybermat figure, though. As far as the CyberBody, I'm sure folks will come up with some clever solutions... additionally, by utilizing transparency on the different parts the prop could be used for things other than Doctor Who related.

Anyway, I hope you find it useful Bluto. If you have any problems or questions just message me... Back to lurking.

Redfern posted Thu, 27 June 2013 at 7:17 PM

Puttering around this evening, I used your wondeful helmet to create my "own" Cyberman motif employing some "stop gap" pieces I originally used while Richard Marklew modeled an "EarthShock" styled chest unit.

Since the "Nightmare in Silver" helmet harkens to the smoother helmets of the Troughton era, I opted to make the chest unit a bit bulkier as was the "norm" during Pat's years on the show.  But it also has a bit of a "yoke" that was the hallmark of the 80s design debuted in "EarthShock".

Very cool AlDemps! Glad to see someone using with M3, have to admit he was the most difficult fit to create due to the prominent adam's apple and modeling of the neck. The XYZ fixes should help with any posing intersections, although probably Cybermen don't do alot of rubbernecking. :)
