When I try and convert a closed path to a selection using the make selection dialog and the New Selection option, I get the inverse selection of the closed path. This procedure used to work Ok, that is produce a selection of the path, but has, for no apparent reason started producing the inverse.

Can anyone tell me how to reset this function?  I am using CS4( 64 bit) and Windows 7

which option is selected (there are 4 icons) in the Path Operations menu

Combine Shapes
Subtract Shapes
Intersect Shape Areas
Exclude Overlapping Shapes

often it defaults to the laast one used...

The selection is inverted

when the path option is set to subract from path area.  I had assumed that this meant that a second path would be subtacted from the first path as with the section tools themselves, but apparently it subtracts the path from the total area of the image and it is this resulting area that becomes the selection.

Could be useful, now I know what it does.

Many thanks Scott
