I didnt see any pose to apply them nor the bumps

I got the bumps taken care of but im new to sss

oh 2014

thanks

Are you referring to Generation 2(JamesG2, KevinG2, Olivia, etc.) or Genesis 2?

The only script capable of installing SSS into Genesis figures is Snarly's EZSkin.  I don't know if it will update the shaders for Genesis 2, but I am assuming it will.

iamonk posted Fri, 12 July 2013 at 10:21 AM

Yes Genesis2 the Bree textures folder has what looks to be texts with reddened areas

in 2014 there is a button to add sss it adds node to alt diff

But there are also duplicate material groups im not sure what they are for

Im at work now so I cant do much more than search forums for an answer

Look in the Materials section of the Library and see if there is a Material Collection that applies them...

My head hurts Im going to DAZ

Then you didn't install the Poser Companion Files properly.

There are mc6 files for SSS in the folder

Materials/DAZ Genesis 2 Female/Victoria 6

Ahh, but you have Victoria 6; I just got to my Poser machine looked in mine, and the only material collection for the Base Genesis 2 Female is a crappy Poser 5 shader setup without even a bump map.

I don't see any SSS maps either; just bump and specular.  Go with hborre's suggestion to use EZSkin to generate a SSS shader setup; you will need to use EZSkin's editor to assign shaders to the material groups.  Get EZSkin here if you don't have it...

Here's a comparison without and with EZSkin.  This uses EZSkin's procedural bump, because I was too lazy to hook in the bump maps...

EZskin would be better, but the basic G2 Female does come with bump and specular maps plus a scatter node

WandW posted Fri, 12 July 2013 at 8:38 PM

It does, but there are two sets of materials; the ones that are prefixed with numbers have the bump and specular maps plugged in, but they don't actually affect the Poser render!

For '1_SkinFace', I changed the Alternate Diffuse color to red, which should give a reddish tint to the face, but it did nothing, whilst setting the Diffuse color of 'Face' (which simply has the mage map plugged in to Diffuse Color) did.

Raising the bump value of 1_SkinFace to 0.5 (my Units are inches) also had no visible effect.

This probably should be reported to DAZ as a bug....

I agree the surfs w num prefix dont seem to do anything maybe in DS?

I will def check out EZskin

been playing w idl ibl ao and sss and lighting combos but I cant get the glow im looking for

Ive seen great examples in Zbrush

Thanks to both of you that clears up part of the question

iamonk posted Fri, 12 July 2013 at 9:19 PM

Ooh I think im on to something brb

AlanaDale posted Fri, 12 July 2013 at 10:26 PM

In DS the materials with the number prefixes are under the "Legacy surfaces" in the Surface tab.  This is for compatibility.

Unfotunately, they don't map to anything on the Poser side (at this time)

iamonk posted Sat, 13 July 2013 at 12:09 AM

Thats kinda what I thought the numbers relate to the maps used and I figure this figure is built for DS since you need an importer to get into Poser (ironic) and the definately do nothing on my end

I think I found the answer to my question on the sss maps give me a moment and ill share

Unfortunately, the Poser Companion files attach the shaders to these materials instead of the actual material zones...

well this is what i came up with, first off it's tough to Poser when martinis are around

BUT, plug your V5Bree...ss into translucent color set color to white, plug V5Bree...tl into translucent value set value to 1 do nothing else and you get something like this (depending on lighting)...

iamonk posted Sat, 13 July 2013 at 2:19 AM

Notice the ears and tip of nose, on the map this is where it differs from the text, which under same lighting and without the sss maps looks like this

iamonk posted Sat, 13 July 2013 at 2:38 AM

I only focused on th face lips and ears the line on the head is from a diff setting for that surface.  SSS is a subtle change, only the way light reacts to the surface,  I used it in both these images, but the mats add a little more. You wont get that flashlight in your mouth effect, but with some simple changes to your existing text(depending on you image editing skills)...SSS gives a light effect to the surface but by using a mat in the translucent channel you can simulate what sss cant. Maybe blood, blood vessels, alien parasites, i dont know.  I think it a neat way of being able to blend two textures.  Trans channel could do tattooes. Freckles could be added to any text and could be tweaked in poser or even animated i guess.  i guess this isnt new to most but hey im coming from P5.

ok time to sleep

hborre posted Sat, 13 July 2013 at 7:38 AM

The reddening of the ears look much more natural but the nose tip is showlng too much "glow".  There really shouldn't be that much light penetration around that area.

iamonk posted Sat, 13 July 2013 at 9:34 AM

I agree, maybe a little around the nostrils is fine but you can go crazy and make look like she has a cold

Im not crazy abount th Bree textures dont get me wrong they are much better than I would come up with.   There is a spot on the lower right eyelid that bugs me and I get wierd stuff on the eyebrows.  But for free...Im happy.
