i watched the Starship Troopers movie, it was kewl CGI, looked like a final fantasy cut scene. well, it was made by SONY, so i guess it's the same software.
Hair looked shiny, armpit creases were where you'd expect them to be.
Has anyone tried the Arnold render thing? maybe if i win the powerball lottery.
besides the pixar movies, anyone seen a CGI movie that made you sick with longing ?
i bought the Dragonlance movie, cuz the cover characters looked cgi, but the movie looked nothing like the cover.

Final fantasy the spirits within was good.
The movie with the blue cat people was OK.
Sadly poser isnt quite up to doing either yet ;-)

I wish. I was bummed that they couldn't use the name Avatar for the title of the Last Air Bender movie...until I saw how horrible the movie was.

Not sure if it counts because its a short film but ROSA - kind of looks like it can be done in Poser provided you had a room with an infinte number of monkeys to help.
Depending on your definition of CGI, Beowulf was the last full length movie that had that effect - started a lot of dragon renders after I saw it.

MistyLaraPrincess, what do you mean by "besides the pixar movies, anyone seen a CGI movie that made you sick with longing ?"
Certain films with CGI elements do share the same feel for me even if the stories are not at all the same. Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0346156/?ref_=sr_2 is one of my favorite live action / CGI blends.
MistyLaraCarrara posted Wed, 07 August 2013 at 9:15 PM
sick with longing as in crying in my pillow at night cuz that's the kind of movie i wanna render.

the movie entirely missed the humor of the series.
they did a good job with the waterbending special effects. and Momo and Appa.
a manga novel recently came out, have you seen it? :) they're out and about looking for Zuko's mom.
i think Uncle Iro might be the dude in the cave with ironman. voice sounds very very similar.

amazon needs a movie category for CGI. maybe an anime sub category. and a software mention.
wouldn't it be kewl to go to Sundance Film Festival with a poser rendered indie movie?
the credits in troopers mentioned motion capture.
Mark Rufallo's Hulk was motion capture. they must have matched up Mark's limb and torso proportions with Hulk somehow, imagining, based on efforts to put Vicki in Jesse's walk cycles. i tried the sexeh walk on Vickie, but her knees - major collision time.
motion capture for poser?!

Iron Man had motion capture because the actual armor prop was too heavy and movement restrictive. Robert Downey Jr. was most grateful for that technology.

On your recommendation I tried the film. And while I found the story a bunch of militaristic bif-bang-pow crap, I was nevertheless glad I watched it.
I thought the CGI was indeed cool, and that's exactly the standard I'm aiming for. Of course I still have some way to go, but at least I feel I'm getting better.
(My latest effort was a "Dawn" trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lt2YGmVwTXI - animated in Poser and rendered in C4D)
So yes, I am "sick with longing", so I just try to work hard, address my weaknesses, and try to get better.
A rather different kind of animation, and yet very interesting, is the 2009 film "Metropia".

MoCap is expensive and cumbersome and ya need plenty of room to use it.
The ratio of the person in the MoCap suit needs to resemble the ratio of the 3D Character as close as posable also.
Not a good idea to put John Goodman in a MoCap suit to animate Vicky
They sell render farms ,be cheaper to make ya own renderfarms.
Ya can rent renderfarms online.
Maybe get a school or college to let you borrow there's.
There are Real time Render Engines ,Games.
iClone has Real time Render Engine.
Maybe some of the HighEnd App's have Real time Render Engines plugs.
Just for rendering anamations.

Arnold is an amazing renderer to be sure (one of the studios I do work for uses it) but it produces renders that are pretty similar to other path tracers like Maxwell, Octane, Lux, Thea etc. So there's nothing stopping you from using one of those in your work to get nice results. As long as you have decent hardware, GPU based ones will also give you really nice render times. And of course quality renders depend heavily on using well built assets, thoughtful lighting and a fair bit of postwork...
