Hi,
I've recently upgraded to PoserPro 2014 SR2 and have been having problems with render artifacts in the hair. Is it possible to go back to SR1 once you've installed SR2? I did try to install SR1 and got an error message "A valid instance of PoserPro 2014 could not be located at ..."
I don't really want to completely uninstall the programme and then start from scratch adding all my runtimes again. Is there a way just to roll back to the previous version?
Cheers,
Jackie

Are you on OS X or Windows?

I'm on Windows 7 64 bit.

OK, then uninstall Poser Pro 2014 (application only, leave the content alone). When re-installing the application, the installer should offer you to 'Use existing preferences'. If you choose that option, all your external content runtimes should remain linked as they are now. You can then install SR1 again.
Before you uninstall, could you render an image that shows the artifacts clearly, and then render the exact same image in SR1? It would be very helpful to see a side by side comparison.

Hi,
Thanks for your help. I have opened (& since closed) an incident at SmithMicro regarding the render artifacts on the hair. I've posted images to them showing the artifact that appears when I subdivided the hair to a level of 1 using Figure > Skinning Method > Poser Unimesh (preview 0 render 1). This almighty artifact appears to the right of V4's nose. I'm also getting artifacts on the skin which appear during the SSS pass of the render. I see on a thread on another site that these can occur when you're using scatter, idl, sss and smoothing. I'm using all of these. Apparently the solution for the skin artifacts is to move the camera angle slightly. I really like my camera angle right now, but I'm desperate so I'll try anything. I'll change the camera angle and see if that works.
Thanks for your instructions re going from SR2 to SR1. I'll try that this afternoon.
Thanks again,
Jackie

If you have a render artifact, please post your render settings.
Sometimes a slight minor change can solve the problem.
Also check that close geometry is in another SSS Group.
Teeth, inner mouth, eyes, cornea should be in another SSS group then the outer skin.
Some blue shine can come to the surface when all are in the same SSS group.
Same for close fitting clothing, that also should be in another SSS group.
There really are too many improvements in SR2 to roll back to SR1.
But if you feel you have to. . .
Post render examples and your render settings please.

You likely shouldn't need to uninstall; Bagginsbill once said for Beta testing the SRs they simply reinstalled the original version and applied the relevant SR...

Yes WandW, but you can not install SR1 over SR2.
You have to uninstall, install the Gold master again, and then install the SR you want to go to.
But you can uninstall the app, and reinstall the Godl master, while maintaining your preferences.
So all runtimes stay attached. Then install the SR, again click maintain preferences.

Quote - Yes WandW, but you can not install SR1 over SR2.
But I didn't say to do that. Per Bagginsbill,
"There was no need to uninstall. In doing so, I suppose it is possible you uninstalled. Everything.
Normally I just run the original installer and then whatever SR I want. We beta testers have to do this all the time."

Thanks for everyone's advice. I did a forum search but didn't see that link WandW. Thanks for pointing it out. I think I'll stick with SR2 for now as I don't want to create any more problems.
The render splotches on the hair and the circular artifacts on the skin were solved by turning off irradiance caching which makes for a very clean render but it does take a very long time.
The hair artifact due to subdividing was "solved" by changing the skinning method back to Poser Traditional and not subdividing it at all within Poser. I exported it and subdivided it in modo then imported it back into Poser and rendered it. So this will be my workaround for a bit.
