Thinking of a new comp to get the most out of PP2014. If I get a new desktop with an i7 processor will Poser render using 7 threads?

The 6 cores will render 11 and leave resources for your web browser

So is that TTFN or TANSTAAFL?

matters what i7 you get...most have 4 cores, 8 threads. high end ones have more cores  and more threads...loook up the specs of the Intel processors and such to get better info. usually intel based CPU's have x number of cores and use Hyperthreading to run an extra thread off each core. I dont think the extra threads are as fast as the main thread but someone else with more knoledge will chime in about it.

i7 4 cores will run 8 threads, my i7 990X is 6 cores and runs 12 threads (though Vue is limited to 8 threads max). Overclocking helps. All threads are equally fast, speed is temperature-driven (higher temp=lower speed). TMonitor (freebie on the net) can tell how speedy your individual threads are at runtime. Speccy (freebie on the net too) can tell you about the temp of the individual cores.

Why run 7 or 11 threads? Just manage your priority settings. This is how: http://www.book.artbeeweb.nl/?p=162

have fun

Usually I'm wrong. But to be effective and efficient, I don't need to be correct or accurate.

visit www.aRtBeeWeb.nl (works) or Missing Manuals (tutorials & reviews) - both need an update though
